Robert Emmanuel Pirès (born 29 October 1973) is a former French footballer and footballing coach.
Pires played for French clubs Metz and Marseille prior to his time with Arsenal, where he won three FA Cups and two Premier League titles including the club's unbeaten season of 2003-04. A former France international, Pirès earned 79 caps between 1996 and 2004 for his country, including winning both the 1998 FIFA World Cup and UEFA Euro 2000. He has been included in the PFA Team of the Year for the 2001-02, 2002-03 and 2003-04 seasons, was the Player of the Tournament for the 2001 FIFA Confederations Cup, FWA Player of the Year for the 2001-02 season, Ligue 1 Young Player of the Year for the 1995-96 season, and was included in the FIFA 100 by Pelé. He was also voted by Arsenal fans as the 6th greatest player in the club's history.
Pirès has played the majority of his career as a left winger, but can also play all across the midfield or in a position to support the forward line. Pires is currently coaching at Arsenal.

That first goal is just perfect. Zero hesitation from Pires to score a screamer, absolutely world class player.
I miss him a lot, he is one of my favourite player ~ I like his footballing sense, his simplicity, his link up play with his teammates, he was also an opportunist in the box, he was getting goals and assists regularly for Arsenal !

I met him when he signed my Arsenal shirt at the pre-season game against Barnet 2005. I called him D'Artagnan and he just smiled in a shy way. What magical player, he had excellent vision and technique. Plays football how it should be played. It was the greatest privilege to watch Arsenal between 97-98 - 2005-06 and the 2007-08 season too, up until 2013-14 Arsenal had patches of amazing football. But overall were not competing for anything. Arsenal will be remembered for playing the best football under Arsene Wenger during the 49 unbeaten games. The Invincibles, thank God i was alive.
It was a pleasure to watch Robert Pires play for Arsenal. Such a brilliant player in so many respects.
The greatest compliment you could pay him is that he was a winger who didn’t depend on pace yet sent players flying left right and centre with his skill and guile on the ball. Ahead of his time in many ways..

I've been an Arsenal fan since 2001 and I can tell you without a doubt Pires is the best player to ever wear Arsenal shit. I'd even put him in front of Henry and Vieira. He was the main reason why they won so many titles. He was creating assists, scoring goals, penalties, everything. Most goals were created from the left side where he played as a winger. Without him Henry would not score that many goals. He was that final boss in Mortal Kombat that could fuck you up with one single touch. Talent, skill, speed, incredible shooting accuracy, he had it all.
