- Prepaid debit cards can be an alternative option to a bank checking account. They can be expensive if you don’t know how to do your research and compare different cards. I’ve done all the research for you and came across some cards that take advantage of customers by hiding their fee schedules.
Green Dot is just one example. It’s normal to charge monthly maintenance fees, but there was one pay-as-you-go card that charged fees PER TRANSACTION! There are cards from other companies that do the same! So don’t just pick any card.
By law, companies are required to disclose their fees, so I show you where to find it.
I concluded that the American Express Bluebird Card and American Express Serve Card are the best cards out there today. But watch the entire video, because I am here to teach you how to critically think and approach the decision-making process.

Very helpful for Canadian travelers like me. I figured this out on my own 2 years ago when I was at a Walmart in New York State. I literally spent 40 minutes looking at all the prepaid debit cards. It's easier to compare the different cards in person because they are forced to list all hidden fees. The only downside to the Bluebird Amex is there are some places that do not accept American Express.

My 2 biggest issues with Amex Bluebird is that, American Express is not accepted everywhere especially not at Costco where I do 95% of my grocery shopping. And also the bluebird website does not allow you to connect to it while being connected to a VPN. That is especially unsafe if one is using wifi to connect to their banking accounts.

just had a green dot cash back card. My experience is that I hate the monthly 10$ fee and how it charges you it every month. It also costs 5$ to reload money into it and it just sucks.

I also live in the State of New York on Long Island, and I've been enjoying free reloads at 7-11's as well as $0.00 monthly fees for the passed ten years. An added benefit to the Green Card is cash withdraws at Walmart for uptown $2,200.00 U.S.

I just bought one about 90 minutes ago at Walmart and they only had one left so I was lucky. Do you recommend registering and getting the personalized card? Or is this temporary card ok for reloading and making online purchases which is the only thing I'm going to use it for?
I can't say because I got mine directly online so the personalized one, but since you already got the one in store, just activate it online so you can keep reloading it.

Ask your parent to get the card in this video for themselves and then make a sub user for you so you get your own card. Or straight up ask to keep their card for yourself like the other teenagers who have commented here. It doesn't affect your parents' credit and it denies transactions if you don't have enough money, so there really aren't any fees your parent will have to worry about.

I have a green dot card I purchased Dec 23. I cant get I registered or activated and nobody does anything when you call. They say technical difficulties. One man told me he couldn't try to help me any longer he is limited to time hespends with a customer! Wtf?
I have a credit union for my paychecks and a cash app card to transfer to when I pay my bills. It comes directly off so I don't have to wait for the CU to clear it. No fees with my cash app card...lol I'm good.

I got the personal one and I got the gold one pay as you go debit card they need to really add more features because they will not it will not let you it will and it will let you add money to the cash app but it won’t let you cash out to it and they say their sisters with Cash App
What's the best pre paid cards that I can use to pay my car insurance with. All these other cards don't work when I want to pay automatically every month without having to ring them up and pay. Rather the companies automatically take the money out themselves if that makes sence
I'm not really sure. I actually think the problem is not the card but the car insurance you choose. Every car insurance company uses a different payment processor and software. Like for example, with Arbella, I couldn't even schedule a future payment. If I wanted to pay, the payment date had to be today. But with Geico, I could schedule it. There is no standard. Some companies might have turned on the setting to reject prepaid cards for autopay, so there might not even be a card out there that would work for what you want to do.

So I researched both the bluebird and serve (I live in one of the free no fee states) and they are basically the same except serve has more places to reload other than Walmart? Is that the difference?

I live in CT and need an international prepaid card for my daughter who lives in another county Gambia West Africa. Would American Express bluebird work for in this case, if not can you recommend another card without all the fees? Please advise. Thanks!
It could work. There's no foreign transaction fees and the FAQ says as below. But I don't really know your situation. Do your own research.
For the prepaid debit card:
"Your Bluebird® American Express® Prepaid Debit Card can be used for purchases virtually anywhere American Express is accepted internationally. At this time you cannot use international ATMs. Additionally, international use is not available to accountholders who are Vermont residents or to subaccount users."
For the bluebird bank account (not the prepaid card):
"The Visa® debit card issued with your Bluebird® Bank Account can be used anywhere Visa debit cards are accepted internationally, including at international ATMs."

I don't know the answer about internationally, but to cancel it should be as easy as canceling a credit card. Just withdraw all the money out first before calling customer service.

so how does this exactly work because I would like to buy the card at my local safeway and I had a prepaid PayPal card which the monthly fee was 4.95 which was a lot for me because the min reload amount is $20 so I had to pay for some apple bills too.. if I get this card at my local Safeway is there any fees I should look out for and if so which ones...thank u for this because I don’t wanna spend so much every month on something I might use only sometimes!
If you get the card at your local Safeway, you'll have to pay a purchase fee. Get it online for free and AMEX ships it to you. You have to look at the fee schedule for the Blue Bird and Serve card to see how much is the cash reload fee at a store that isn't included for free. That's explained in the video.

I just received my FREE Bluebird card today in the mail and I'm hoping I can pay my bills with it and not have any problems with AMEX not being accepted. That's the only complaint I keep seeing about American Express is that it's not accepted at certain places but my question is WHERE is it not accepted. I wanna load this up for free at Walmart and pay bills only with it.
All your bills should take it. A place that doesn’t take Amex is usually a small business because they cannot afford the higher merchant processing fees.

Is there anything I can do if I just purchased a Walmart Money Card for just making online purchases without compromising my regular Bank card. I put $500.00 on it, but I discovered that I have to disclose my SS#, which I don't want to do, and the card is non-refundable. I have not activated it yet. Please advise me on what to do. Go to Walmart customer service and ask if you can withdraw. You might have to pay a fee. Or you can withdraw the money from an ATM but you need to pay ATM fee
It says that I must pay a fee of 6 dollars before I’m signing up but it also says that thing about living in Texas and having no fees. Since I live in Texas, I don’t have to pay any monthly fee even thoug it says on the chart?

Greendot has a monthly fee. So yeah, even if you don't use it, they will still take that out. If there's not enough, it waits till you reload, then takes it out of the new balance.
