  • If you’re anything like me, you probably wish there were 30 hours in a day. There just isn’t enough time to do all the things I want to do and experience! Time also seems to speed up as you age.
The productivity gurus out there tell us the solution lies in more efficiency. Wake up at 4am, plan every second of your day, join a mastermind.
There’s this expectation imprinted on us of what it means to live a life well spent. You CAN do and become anything becomes you HAVE to do and become all those things.
I’m definitely guilty of this. I’m not where I want to be in life. I frequently feel like I’m not doing enough and wonder what other steps I can take to secure a better future. And where to find the time...
But then I read the book “Four Thousand Weeks” by Oliver Burkeman. He puts this whole notion of controlling time on its head.
The subtitle is ‘Time Management for Mortals’, but it’s more of a philosophical book than your typical self-help book. The author points out that the average person lives for around 80 years, or 4,000 weeks. He argues that it’s impossible to do everything we want to in this limited time. Only when we come to terms with our finitude, can we truly start living.
In this video, I want to share my key takeaways from Four Thousand Weeks. It's my attempt at sharing how I intend to apply the lessons from this book in my own life, and hopefully inspire you to rethink your own relationship with time. And what it means to live a life well spent.

Just what I needed to hear. My addiction to twitter, FB and Instagram seems to be a way of just switching off. It is numbing, like drinking alcohol. Just another way of wasting time unintentionally. Before I know it, an hour has passed and I feel unsatisfied and demoralised. I am going to try the 30 day intention social media idea. Wish me luck!

That's a great insight and a powerful challenge to take on, I wish you luck! I did a similar challenge regarding checking/watching the news (see video here: czcams.com/video/jW4F229sS74/video.html). I found it helpful to be proactive and have an alternative ready whenever I felt the urge to check the news. For example reading a book or journaling. I'm rooting for you! 🙌🏻

I've started to count my life in weeks. I mean, not that I count like I am going to die but to think about the time we have. Every experience is your last experience. Powerful thought. And beautiful review.

So, here I am, doing this chore and listening while griping myself out for not having done a list of things that are not that important, nor necessary for a good healthy life, and for not being excellent at my hobbies. Then I started thinking how I wind up having all these wonderful moments that surprise me, noticing a cloud, overhearing an odd conversation, having a delightful time at the farmers market. Hmmm. There's a shift in perspective. . . .

Many interesting points and ways to look at our time, and how to value it ! Have to put some more time in to this video, to progress all the different things you cheer whit us. I have for some time now practise "doing noting" like in your video, find it very helpful for relaxing and finding my "own" thoughts. It`s a thing I`m going to continue. It was nice hearing about Helsinki in this video, I live 50km away. All good to you.

I'm happy to hear my videos have a positive impact 😊. For this particular video, I totally understand wanting to watch it again. I did not intend to make a 25 minute video about this book 🙈 but I just had so many takeaways from this book it just sort of happened. Oops. Probably even could have been a 50-minute video, haha! I wish you all the best.

Loved this video! You nailed it as usual! One thought's is that this video was a little bit long! It contains so many deep thougts that it feels a little heavy to view. Maybe it could gain some of being cut in to two parts... Keep on doing your great stuff!

You should also let down this utilitarist point of view of life (western: do everything you want) and live a life with more humility and maybe even think about the hinduist concept of reincarnation. So this takes all the cultural pressure to live your life to the fullest/maximum (carpe diem) away.
Also to consciously "waste" some time is fine and a luxury. Not every moment needs to be productive and have a meaning to its end 😀
