I watch Ryan's videos every weekend day before work-and this is probably one of my favorites. Particularly the part about his neighbor wanting to barbecue and feed his former pet goat and babies to the dog......When you die...Someone will eat you...That's funny and also touching.....(Also that rather then judging the neighbor-he found humor in it).

If ego is the enemy, and the enemy is an obstacle, and the obstacle is the way, then the ego is the way! Or something like that. As the great stoic philosopher Mac Davis said, “It’s hard to be humble, but we’re doing the best that we can.”

I appreciate your insights and stoicism. But I have questions.
Is there virtue in hunting? Is there virtue in causing harm to an animal if it is not necessary? You could photograph these animals and still practice many of the same skills. Or are we taking their lives for selfish reasons?
"If it's not right, don't do it."
Is it right to take the life of an animal against their will if it's only for our pleasure?

@stevengreen11 - Although I eat Vegetarian myself, there are two sides to every coin.
Here, in Ohio, we have many, many deer. If we didn’t have hunters cull the deer herds, some would starve in the winters. The deer would severely damage the farmers’ crops. There also would be a substantial danger to human life, because of the deer jumping out in front of traffic.
Some years, they need to hire sharpshooters because the hunters didn’t reduce the deer population enough.
Although I am not a hunter myself, there are good reasons for keeping our wildlife numbers from overpopulating.

We are hunters. Its in our soul, in our heritage, in our DNA. Its one of the most natural things we can do to connect to our spiritual base.
Denying it leaves you incomplete. You literally cannot understand what I mean until you've experienced it.

Why? Its in our heritage as hunter/gatherers. Denying a piece of yourself means you will always be incomplete.

There's no bad in hunting. Human started hunting for their existence since their inception. Even animals hunt other animals(Food Chain in Biology) for their existence. It's natural. It gets bad when gone beyond limits.

You lost me at hunting. “Learning from” nature by needlessly killing? I’m more supportive of reducing the suffering of all living things as best as I can, and I believe that’s a stoic belief as well, but correct me if I’m wrong about that.

Assuming he and his family eat meat, what's the difference between him killing a wild animal or a farm raising and killing animals? Either way an animal dies. At least the wild animal didn't have a lifetime of suffering.

I mean I get what point you're trying to make, but at least be truthfull. How would that even happen?
The absolute majority of biodiversity loss is due to habitat destruction and fragmentation. Lost connectivity, lost source areas for populations to procreate. Happy greatings go out towards industrialized farming, deforestation, fossil resource use and big infrastructure projects.

From what I've seen in other videos, Ryan reads spiritual text but he doesn't read it for dogmatic acceptance but to internalize golden nuggets of wisdom. Spiritual and philosophical learning can be found anywhere and everywhere. You can look at Jesus as just like Seneca, Marcus Aurelius, Epictetus, Confucius, and all philosophers throughout history. They were people who pursued a higher understanding of existence and shared their wisdom with others.
