they lied, they lied to the FTC I have all the documentation. The problem is that they are not held accountable. If I stole $5k from them I would sit in prison for 10 years. Why no criminal prosecution for bankers who steal?

I feel for you. If you consider the 2008 financial crisis, not a single person was sent to prison. Obvious fraud was taking place which impacted the entire US economy negatively but no one, not a single person was held accountable.

My wife and I went to Chase last year to open an account, and the guy on the desk said that we were supposed to make an appointment online. Since he was free, we asked if he could open the account, and he refused by saying that he was waiting for a customer. I asked for his manager, she came and said that she was leaving early that day. We waited in the parking lot and went back 20 minutes later. Both, the lazy guy and the manager were sitting on their desks doing nothing. I told my wife: let's take our money someplace else.

I had an issue with PNC bank where I was given the wrong amount of money from the ATM machine at their bank (it was only for $200, but that isn't the point it is my money), I filed a claim and initially they denied my claim 2 times, I just ketp fighting/escalating and eventually the returned MY money.

This is exactly why I have my money spread out at two different banking institutions and a federal credit union. Just imagine not having access to any of your money. Thankfully, they have friends and family that were able to help them, but we all know that not everyone has that type of support. I would have still went forward with the lawsuit for financial damages, pain and suffering (mentally), breaking FDIC & FTC laws, and etc. They let them off way too easily.

I've worked at bank data - customer service centers. Every single one was a DEI 'train wreck'. So much so that these centers rarely stay open for 5 years before they are dissolved and the work is moved to a newly created center elsewhere. Rinse and repeat.

I wouldn't be surprised if now they had to deal with the IRS claiming that they owe capital gains tax on the money that was returned to them.

Perhaps more individuals should be pursuing the like of not just Chase Bank but other institutions for similar inappropriate actions. If institutions in this scenario had to additionally pay for punitive damages on top of the monies that were seized from their customers and some stiff fines then maybe they would rethink their position. This is happening a way too often. It is time that these institutions are made to be accountable.

There is a 500 page document attached to your signature card; if you read it; you'd most likely only keep a minimum in the bank...Essentially; when you deposit money in a bank; you have surrendered it to them...They can take it without reason and if any official agency asks them to freeze your accounts; they won't hesitate nor tell you...

I hope Chase paid their attorney fees and gave them interest on their hijacked account. That's what these banks are more than likely doing. Investing overseas, China and after awhile when they make their money then you get yours.

Chase was using the money to invest. Banks will hold customer funds and make excuses why there is a hold. They make money off yours while giving you pennies of interest. These savings and checking accounts are horrible.

It’s maddening to never get explanation…it’s easy to understand how mistakes happen but impossible to understand why it would then be handled so insanely badly and that response to apparently be deemed good enough to a company, no pride or integrity

I being petty probably would of said ok but the lawsuit is still going to happen just for a tad less now but the issue of months of borrowing, stress, and loss of interest along with attorneys fees to date still remain.
