- Nate Sexton and Sarah Hokom put on an awesome driving clinic at Knob Hill in Pittsburgh, PA on 08/23/17. If you are new to Disc Golf, or are trying to fix up your form, they go over every detail of throwing technique and give us great tips on how to improve our throws.
The Q&A portion of this clinic can be found here:

This is probably the most helpful disc golf clinic I've ever seen. Thanks Nate, Sarah and DGE!
Agreed. Covered a lot of points without breezing through any of the points without good insturction. Nate has a great way of explaining all of his points in a way thats easy to understand.
The BEST tip I learned from this: move your body to change hyzer or anhyzer. I was always using my wrist. This has helped me SO MUCH. I am WAY more consistent now! Wonderful clinic!
The cool guy pose thing has helped me a lot, thanks.
I like how sarah was describing the forehand. I've seen clinics, but no one has said anything about the disc flipping up at the end of your throw like she did at 15:35 ...now I know why my forehands go ani soo much, thanks sarah!
They just dropped some serious knowledge on us. Best tutorial I've ever watched.
This is the video I always show friends that are new and have got the disc golf itch!
You can tell she is a really good, natural athlete and explains things well also. Great team for teaching!
Literally the 2 most qualified players to do this clinic.
Really? Hokom is really the last person whose forehand form I would try to follow. My back hurts just by watching her thrown.
Hokom rarely throws backhands and frankly is pretty terrible at backhands. Her sidearm is decent but form is kinda weird.
First comment I've ever made on a CZcams video... but this was so darn helpful. Easily the best 20-minute disc golf clinic on CZcams. You guys rocked it.
So glad you liked it! All credit goes to Nate Sexton and Sarah Hokom. You can support them by buying their discs and apparel, if you like!
The entire video was wonderfully helpful. Great job.
I'll be watching this multiple times. Thanks for posting this video!
One of the best driving clinics out there. Thanks for posting.
We appreciate the comment! It has certainly helped me over the years. Special thanks to Sarah and Nate, they rock!
Excellent video, great tips, love the WHY behind each tip!
Thank you Brian Thoroughly enjoyed the video!
Those two are such good sports. Thanks for the info and good luck to them in the future
Thanks Nate & Sarah...great video!
That toe drag is the biggest flaw in my game. Ive destroyed some good shoes doing that. Cant wait to eliminate that from my form forever. Thanks Nate and Sarah!
Jackson Marschall i
Awesome video helped alot, thank you!
This is a great clinic....thanks, all!
Our pleasure!
Great footage. Thanks for posting this.
Thanks Anthony!
Thank you to all involved in making this video. I learned so much from it, that the next time I was in the disc golf store, I bought a Sexton touring series Firebird.
So glad you liked it that much! Keep bangin' those chains!
This video taught me 2 big things I've been trying to fix in my game for a month. Great instructions and drill from Nate and great way of explaining the wrist angle from Sarah. Thanks for posting!!!
Great explanation of contrasting wrist Employment Between forehand and backhand.
Great quality, thanks DGE - and congrats on winning the raffle
Thanks Andrew!
Thanks for this. Also, newbies can start off by driving with a tennis ball, using a soft ball for long 2nd shots, and then putting with a soccer ball (but don't kick it!) When you get confident with the balls then switch to discs - it's basically the same motions and was a great help for me. Feel free to use a golf ball if you struggle for distance with the tennis ball.
this little clinic was awesome for me as a new player. I muscle through my shots too much.
Very good video. The best I've seen yet. As far as speech techniques, Nate is very good. Clear expanations. Does a very good job of not using "distractors". No "um's" "ah's". Sarah, not so much. Lots of um's.
I could never fix my foot pointing forward until, on another video, i learned that my back foot pointing backwards was making me point my front foot forward. just in case one person who reads this is as confused as i was
Great video thanks!
Love your channel dude. I live on the gulf coast as well.
Nate is a great speaker. He was always there to fill the vocalized pauses from Sarah. Sarah speaks well too, but Nate truly knows how to avoid dead air.
Is that a jab at Big Jerm? xD
Great video!
Jeff Hawkins Thanks!
10:00 I was on vacation and played a course that wasn't familiar to me last week. I thought I was going to hit the tee sign on my follow through on a few holes and "stopped" my follow through without thinking about it. My knee still hurts.
Gonna need a clinic on the Nate spin trick at 18:34
He's the Pistol Pete of disc golf
No joke, I land my lead foot on the heel and it has improved my distance. Am I doing it wrong. I will definitely try the toe next time to see if that's better.
Goood and very helpful!! :D
So fantastic great footage
Zee Devil Thank you!
thanks for recording and posting Brian. Imo you should throw up a vid with the Q & A also
That is the plan Macky D!
1:36 Reminds me somehow of the security demo on a flight.
Does anyone know what model backpack Sarah is using? I love the multi-tiered design of the pockets!
Toe dragging also rips up your shoe I know from experience Thanks Yall
The best part is when they throw. Lots of oohs and ahs
Do they still put on clinics like this at events/tournaments? This was extremely helpful!
This was before a National Tour event that came thru Pittsburgh in 2017. I'm sure these can be set up thru the players. Try messaging them and see if they would be interested in hosting a clinic in your area.
I wish I would have watched this a year ago
Wish I'd had this to watch 30 years ago when learning on my own...
It's all in the hips
Nate is such a charming guy.
good shit
I see her keeping her elbow tucked in to the body. Is that a key element?
What they didn't tell you is the important stuff. Weight of the disc matters a lot. They all just use hyzer flips. Keep your nose down when you throw the disc. Less is more sometimes. Practices by barely powering the drive the see how it flies, then put more power to it. Get a innova leopard dx plastic 150-162 grams, throw it at 8 o clock angle with the front of the disc pointed down a lil and you'll get it to flip up. Master that one and move on.
22:55 best zombie throw ever haha
8:10 - good morning
i can't think of someone i want backhand tips from less than sarah lol i love how it's 2 predominantly forehand players 😂
I need Nate to come give me some personal lessons. Really.
23:31 Fore!!!
I've tried every forehand grip I've ever seen, still can't get any results other than with a single finger grip.
my brother throws with only his pointing finger. I throw with that tucked 2 finger grip that Jessica Weese uses. Different strokes for different folks. You can argue for using the form described above all day long, then you got people like Bobby Musick and Geoff Bennett. So whatever man, do what you do well and what is comfortable to you.
This was a really helpful video. An oldie but a goodie, for sure. That said, if you actually watch Hokom play, kinda seems like her advice would be: "Try to almost fall over on every single shot. Really, get your torso horizontal, parallel to the ground, forehand, backhand, 5 foot putt, horizontal torso, bent all the way over, every shot." Wonderful player and person, but her form makes me cringe - just being honest.
Haha Nate at 15:09
Hey i eat lunch in the pavilion behind them all the time!!!!
Sarah is jacked. When she just makes minor movements you can see how muscular her arms and legs really are.
Its disc golf not disc distance contest ;) .... if it were simon would win it all
That's what I keep telling myself. Of course it doesn't hurt if you can throw 500 ft...
7:49 i think sara is glitching out
Damn how about some forehands Nate
They'd make a great couple
That part about that reachback up by the head didn't age well considering Calvin does it.
My form is garbage.
Wish there was a channel where you could upload bad form-vids and then get some helpful advice from others.
Join the Disc Golf Answerman facebook group. They do that on there.
The good people at Disc Golf Course Review are always happy to help with form as well.
r/discgolf
They need to get you guys some mic’s. Can barely hear you.
I've not had an issue hearing what they are saying, but CZcams does captions pretty well. Try turning them on and maybe it will help.
An entire course where Simon can't reach the green in 3...every hole would have to be like 1000+ ft XD
breyleyjk26 more like 1600ft+ Simon can throw 450+ with a p2
sarah throws sidearm so?????
Hmmm how can count watching some one who doesn’t even throw back hand lmao
Sarah cant back hand though....?
That guy had man totterz
her face says shes being annoyed by sexton
This was helpful and I thank you. Sarah has very nice legs..
22:52 do not throw forehands like this
I thought she broke
Nate's got that mansplainage
When teaching, explaining the same thing in several different ways is the best method to get more people to understand.
sarah is not a person that i would want to learn form by,, lol shes what not to do.
im sorry for calling that lady a boy
plz reply and accept my apology plz
I don't like this guy. His voice. He is too full of himself
This guy has a huge ego😂😂😂
Lol she look manlier than nate does
Carlos Salazar those thighs though
I've been playing since 1997 and have watched MANY instructional videos, although the content is very good....Nate don't quit your day job! teaching is NOT his strength sounds so condescending and chastises the average disc golfer.....arrogant and looks and sounds as if he was forced to do this video. Be nice dude, you supposed to be an ambassador of the sport not a jerk.
