Been keeping a close eye on this man for the past two years. Very inspiring. I am nearly 50, retired military, and a few years ago I started running to get back in shape and develop more discipline in my life. I happened upon the breaking2 video and I was awestruck by his humble fortitude. It made me want to run a marathon, and ever since then, I have made running a way of life. No other athlete has ever inspired me like this man to improve upon my self and to think beyond the pain.
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race that God has set before us. Hebrews 12:1

@@donmindsofficial Eliud comes from the track. He has run a 4:06/mile pace for 5,000 meters (his PR is 12:46). His marathon WR pace is 4:38/mile. That's a differential of 32 seconds per mile (or 8 seconds per 400 meters), which is enormous. So even his WR marathon pace was relatively comfortable for him. The problem was simply maintaining it for 42 kilometers. Track athletes like Eliud are under-appreciated, because most people have no idea what they're seeing when they watch a world-class track meet. It's not until the athletes turn their talents to a mass-participation event like the marathon that the lay person understands how truly exceptional these people are.

Brilliant tactical move. Kipchoge took the wide line on the turn to get his drink and Geremew stayed on the short line. When Kipchoge sensed that he was physically separated from Geremew he put the hammer down because he knew he was not ahead but he was out of physical contact. By the time Geremew realized this Kipchoge was gone. This is a clinic, how to win a road race.
