  • *Update - Avoid putting the Pi inside the ICM2 metal box as the restricted airflow can cause the Pi to overheat in hot weather. Instead, have the Pi on the outside, inside your dashboard exactly like the ICM3 mod**
    This is the install guide for the self-build ICM2 kit. Functionality shown in other videos on the channel
    In a nutshell, it adds a touch screen with the latest navigation and all associated features, direct access to Spotify / Deezer / CZcams Music or whatever compatible music app you use, and Bluetooth hands-free calling.

    Holy Cow!! Stu, your insight skill are amazing as always. I need to go ahead and try and do this. With all these mods, I imagine you could take any old ICM 2 and replace an ICM 1 without have to deal with divorce and marriage via tech2, yea?

    • @SaabUnleashed
      @SaabUnleashed  Před 3 lety

      Technically yes. BUT only if the ICM2 came from a car with similar features as yours. For example, if you have reverse sensors and you take an ICM2 from a car that didn't, say goodbye to your reverse sensors until you reactivate them with a Tech2. If you don't have any special features (auto wipers, amp2 ect), you just need to make sure the donor car had an aux as this will mean that it's already enabled and will plug and play in your car. Does that make sense?

    Hi Stu, done this mod for Carplay on my ICM2 but find I’m getting a bit of crackly feedback on the sound. I have routed a 3.5mm aux cable from the sound card in the Pi to the aux socket in the armrest. Seems this is potentially caused by the cable not being shielded? Do you sell a 3.5mm cable that would plug into the back of the EHU and then into the sound card on the Pi and is it shielded?

    Hi! Is there any way to have a simple setup that would allow you to use WIRED Apple Carplay? Presumably at the time of making this video - there wasn't a way to achieve this. Half a year has passed - anything new on the horizon? I've searched the web and all I could find where some attempts at running Apple Carplay on raspberry pi via Android installation, also thanks to using an external USB dongle. This would be just right, except I haven't seen a setup that would work with the touchscreen capability.

    Hi. Thank you so much for these videos on the icm2 and icm3! I had a couple quick questions about Apple car link. Does it work over Bluetooth or do you need to plug it in? If it has to be plugged in, and this may be stupid, but can you plug the Bluetooth adapter into the car link dongle to have car link work via Bluetooth? Also, and I think this may have been addressed in another comment, but I’m curious about a back up camera install as well. Any ideas how to do that or was it addressed elsewhere? Thanks again and I hope you’re able to get back to me :)

    • @SaabUnleashed
      @SaabUnleashed  Před 3 lety +1

      The CarPlay kit is wireless, it works via Bluetooth. The backup camera is possible as Open Auto Pro is compatible, but there is no kit for this purpose currently in existence, but it's definitely something for the future

Also, "Everlanders" has scripts for including a reverse camera and autodimming on his channel, I've linked the video. It was a little pain but I have everything working and it's great (i used a USB to AV capture card to an aftermarket rca backup camera instead of the pi ribbon camera he used but other than that it was very straight forward)! Amy, to be honest that is a bit of a logistical nightmare. Without your ICM, your car won't start, so if it gets lost for whatever reason, your car is dead! The ICM2 is very very easy to disassemble to remove the original screen and replace it with the newer LCD, honestly it wouldn't be worth you sending it to me.

      There's many reasons why I generally wouldn't do this. But the main one is that, for the ICM2, it's very easy to swap the screen, 10x easier than the ICM3. It's literally a couple of screws to remove the original.
