Fields metal sounds right. Melting temp is about 144°f.
There's also woods metal that melts at 158°f or so. These are alloys comprised mostly of bismuth.
I thought they were maybe gallium but that's not quite as safe to handle, and melts way too easily anyway -imagine trying out your new key just to have it melt in your hand like a candy bar. 😁

CI always seems to manage to strike the perfect balance between tacti-cool and practi-cool...and it appears that the Replicant is no exception!
I really want to hold out for Project Gravity (especially because I don't have much use for a key duplication kit at this point in time), but that doesn't make this any less tempting!!!

I will be getting one and do some videos for high security cylinders. I recently used zip ties on a bi lock cylinder this kit will do quite a bit more.

I was expecting an impressioning set and instead here's this thing that looks like rogue's gear from Dungeons and Dragons got crossed up with a 21st-Century re-imagining of one of those death-trap science kits they sold to kids in the 1950's. I had to look up what "Wood's Metal" is, and I'm shocked that CI's liability department gave this the go-ahead. I bet there's a book of warnings included.
Do I still think it's cool? Yes. But man, is this not what I thought was coming. I'm honestly impressed.

Did they show how to make a small channel with something like a paperclip to allow for air to escape when filling up the mould with molten metal?
As I mentioned in the video, you can do that with a spoon, but it’s not needed

@@TequilaDave the designers of the product found out that when you overcomepress the key inside of the sculpting clay, that is when you have issues with filling it. You have to exercise restraint and not over compress the sculpting clay, you have to give room for the metal to dissipate into the impression.
Not that I would use it but damn, must be fun to be a sandman

I remember trying this with a squishy bar of soap and melting plastic …. It did not work too well
Red team Tools has a metal cloner probably cheaper than covert instruments but doesn't have the cool spoon and roller.

Ya me as well. CI has a nacl to making absolute cool stuff. Sadly I don't see much use for this for myself although it is cool. I just feel this is one of those things I could see on those "spy gadget" websites of you know what I mean lol. Cool none the less.

Meh. It's intriguing but not for me.
The integrated mold and storage is interesting. The price is reasonable. Piecing a kit together doesn’t save much.
The Covert Instruments Replicant looks to be a pretty good one stop shop with everything needed for those that want to learn casting.
In my kit I use the red team alliance (milled aluminum mold with integrated funnel) $32.

@@camronbay1After closer comparison to my current setup, The CI does appear to have a superior clam shell mold design over my RTA. Im probably going to end up biting the bullet and having to ordering a replicant

It’s not sold out, it releases tomorrow. The product descriptions don’t say anything because the products have not been released yet, they are merely teasers. Otherwise competitors would probably copy the product. You have to sign up for emails to be notified when the product is released.
