we rented one of those U-Hauls 25 years ago, a GMC, it needed several gallons of transmission fluid on the trip from Charleston to Atlanta. All of these gas trucks suck. I wonder if the pieces would fit in a tall sprinter van? much more efficient.

What really sucks about the darn Uhaul trucks is there is no cruise control. That would help a little with fuel mileage, but noooo they want your foot to hurt from holding the pedal down.

Must say, the operator did a pretty good job of going slow and smooth. Also props to the farmhand for giving up his bed to keep that sleeper safe. Now he's gonna have to bed them town girls in the dirt. I'm sure the next vid will reveal how it worked but I think it'll be OK.
Maybe not ideal, but the best adventures never go perfectly as planned.

Now just think how much more could one rig burn in fuel if this one right on the fender says "Fuel saver"!! That kind of mileage reminded me of the old time FWD truck I drove. It was around a nineteen forty model rig and got a half mile to the gallon... but fuel cost about a nickel a gallon for gasoline.... highway cars and trucks paid ten cents at the pumps. One other thing tho was wages were around sixty five cents a hour also.

I guarantee this is a first that a U-Haul truck like this has ever had a Marmon cab, fuel tank or tanks and a sizable semi truck sleeper inside the box. What an experience this load was. She is maxed out! I wish you a positive trip back south.

Hi James found the parts for Betty! Cool thing is they look to be in great shape. Actually think the red interior looks nicer probably easier to clean too. Been many moons since I drove a U-Haul doesn’t sound like they’ve changed much. Stay safe

Yes it does. Tell me do you think you’ll be able to save the paint on the cab and sleeper or will you have to repaint them? Inside looked in far better shape than Betty does.

i was just wondering why, the u haul trucks are not diesel engines. is it because there is no pumps in America or is because gas has a first come monopoly on the worlds market.?
I think mostly because it’s like 5000$ more to put the diesel engine in and maintenance is higher cost as well.

I have a c5500 GMC retired UhAul at my cabinet shop I put a 24 ft Morgan box 102 high 96 wide I like the bed height and the low pro stance it gets 8-9 mpg when they went with the ford that piece of shit will not get out of it’s own way the GMC has balls with the big block them damn humps in the box Uhaul uses sux it’s a real low box to

It may've been better to rent a smaller truck and a car trailer to haul sleeper etc even a uHaul PU might've worked
We laughed about that when we were trying to get it in the back. Next time They actually lied to me about the size of the door and I just trusted them
