Lexus plops its stellar naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 engine into the IS sport sedan for what could be the last mass production compact four-door to use such a powertrain. Though the IS 500 F Sport Performance isn't a full "F" model like the RC F, and therefore lacks some visual and interior pizazz to match its potency, it rewards the driver with a sonorous experience unlike any of its rivals. Priced from $56,500, the IS 500 takes on the BMW M340i, Mercedes-AMG C43, Acura TLX Type S, and other mid-range fighters. Is an N/A V8 and just-right price enough to champion its segment? I actually LOVE that this car still has a CD player. CDs still provide some of the best audio quality!
I fell in love with this car even before it came out. I wanted to get that launch edition but it was so hard to get your hands on one plus the dealers markups were insane. I finally was able to place an order for a 2023 IS500. It will look nice next to my daily which I drive a 2021 V6 Camry XSE. Love Toyotas/Lexus; I go for their reliability

I’ve waited almost a year for mine, but it’s FINALLY on the way! It should be here next month! I went with ultrasonic blue and black interior. I plan on adding the carbon fiber mirror caps at the dealer, as well as the carbon fiber spoiler that came with last year’s IS 350 dynamic handling package- if I can still get my hands on one. It’s going to look so nasty! I’m crazy excited!

It's an old car. This generation is from 2013 (2014 model) and was refreshed in 2016 (2017 model) and again refreshed in 2020 (2021 model) which the new IS500 gets its design but still the same old architecture. It's not using the newer TNGA (Toyota) of LGA (Lexus) architecture.
@@tropicalstorm339 It may be old, but the suspension, double A arms, is superior to struts. Most Porsches and BMWs have struts.
That’s why you can do custom work on it later.
472 is a lot of horsepower. I imagine this car is just an effortless and entertaining ride. Even the ownership experience is probably about as effortless as you can get. For someone that appreciates those qualities, this thing is a perfect ride.

Honestly with the rise of newer cars having only screens and less buttons I’m now appreciating these cars who still have the buttons 😂 makes it easier for my family to also use it but not go thru the endless touchscreens to turn on the climate control lol
it's unbelievable these cars don't come standard with leather. 25 years ago you got standard leather on a 28,000 Buick

The only thing that sucks is those BBSs add like an additional $2.4k to the price of the car. I would have rather had the gunmetal ones come stock and use them for winter. Then buy a nice set of black Enkeis for the summer.

I been debating G80 M3 or IS500, I still have to drive both of them, but I think you and Matt at The Smoking Tire have convinced me.
Yes, they are not in the same category, but considering the Lexus reliability, it is a great deal.
The only things that were pulling me towards the M3 were, MT, larger interior (back seats for 2 young kids), and roof rack inserts for a bike rack.
I think after watching this I can forgo those things and use my wife's Highlander for the days I want to bike.
The only thing left is figuring out if I should keep the S2000 or sell it.

I went to two dealerships, trying to purchase one. First one wanted 8,000 over MSRP. The second dealership wanted 10,000 over MSRP. I'm willing to spend but not get jacked. Great car if you're willing to spend. I'm just going to wait.

There are some great choices in the lux sport sedan segment. The IS500 is my choice by a mile. If this was a V6TT, I wouldn't want it. I hope the steering feel is more communicative though

How’s ride quality in this vs the type s? Road noise, tire noise, etc
Gears seem super tall though, you want to be able to shift the trans a lot more but 2nd gear and it looks like you’re already breaking the speed limits. Wish you could shift it more and hear the upper RPMs as it sounds glorious there
if you want to do that then just go to the manual shift option i think
exterior: 9/10
interior: 4/10 because it just looks too old, everything looks plain except for the touch screen, the materials are not even leather, they are leatherette, plastic, injection moulding, they shouldve added more aluminum and shiny bits in the interior, a better steering wheel, better digital display and better door handles and lock thing then it would be better. I think they spend all the money on the exterior and performence rather than the interior as well.
I agree but honestly need to see and feel everything in person before i pass too much judgment. I’ve found that interior materials are the hardest thing to get across in a YT review. I’ve thought interiors on YT look like trash but then when you get in them they feel more premium, etc. But this interior obviously has nothing on something like an Audi or Mercedes - they just make the best interiors to me.

I'm going lexus tomorrow to "research" a package setup. Thankfully the Lexus dealer on Oahu doesn't do that mark up as the main land but the estimated delivery to the island from japan is around 6 months. Pro's and cons to that I guess.

Exterior looks great
The outside refresh is a home run, the best the IS has ever looked. The interior I'm afraid is a deal breaker for me. It just looks painfully dated now for this segment and some of the finish detail is a little too Toyota parts bin obvious. Otherwise a GREAT car.

This, hands down.
I prefer using plug in for any headhunt, you get better sound quality over BT. That especially matters when putting anything flac or any other high quality music through the ML sound system.
I can't decide if I want to go for one of these or for an RX 500H F Sport. On one hand the SUV is much more practical in every way, is still reasonably fast, and has a much nicer interior. On the other hand, this is a luxury sedan with a nearly 500HP V8. I can't make up my mind.
Nice review but I can assure you there was never a tape deck in the 3IS Gen or the 2IS Gen
4 cylinder with turbo RWD 8-speed is best configuration for this car. Not much weight, decent acceleration and power coming from the back makes it a happy medium. Too bad Lexus haven’t thrown a 8- speed with a 6 cylinder config or that would have been my pick. This is such an effortless and fun drive, don’t buy it in AWD config, it kills the fun part & probably the turning radius

When compared to its rivals, the IS cabin lacks the details and design that exude luxury. I'm sure it will hold up well, it's just not exciting.

The beauty of the cabin looks good on camera view. When you sit in the driver's seat, that view is redundant. Your eyes will be on the road 98%. No one is going to sit inside the car and enjoy how beautiful the interior is.

Faster as in top speed? The Charger Scat Pack is ungoverned, so its top speed is highest at 175 mph. Next is M340i at 155, then this at 149 (both limited)

I think if you want a Premium midsize Sedan with very good performance, newest technology, modern Interior and better looking Interior, it´s better to buy a BMW 340i or a Mercedes C43.
True, germans know how to make quality cars, and it's more of a iconic luxury brand to see any bmw or Mercedes on the road. Lexus still feels like a fancy Toyota to me, not really luxurious

Came back here since I had the opportunity to drive an IS 500 this past weekend and wanted to see how my thoughts compared. Honestly? While I didn't get a chance to drive it on canyon roads, I do agree about two things - the engine is the best part of the car, and the ride is awesome. I loved it.
The 2018 is 300 f sport is by far a better choice it looks the same inside with red interior and will save you milage being a v4 or if you choose the v6 version for more power
I can't believe they slaughtered this car with such an abysmal interior. Kinda disrespectful that they didn't even seem to try on the interior whatsoever. The vents are the best looking part. Gorgeous otherwise though. A shame.

Try one out before you write it off. I get nothing but compliments on the interior of mine.

@@mayeramschelrothschild3126 I genuinely like the car and interior a lot. My one gripe is specifically the infotainment and trackpad. They've replaced it in the 2023 LS, but still not the IS. Hopefully 2023 is the last year for the old infotainment system in the IS.
