Ready for Friday’s episode! I dig the IS500; I don’t really mind some of it’s dated characteristics. I love that color, too. It hasn’t occurred to me that it is the color from the LC500. Those seats look comfortable. I’m far more of a GT car fan than a pure sports car fan and I just realized how this car fits the bill perfectly. I’m never going to be one to go to the track or auto cross, but having access to that ample power and acceleration and great interior comfort as I eat up the miles is definitely seductive.
Really well thought out review Matt 👍 You guys are lucky to have this USDM exclusive IS500 - there seems to be no plans for these to be available in Japan, let alone Europe! That induction noise is sonorous, reminds me of the M3 E90 generation with its V8.
I appreciated the Charger Scat Pack comparison to this car. In June I sold my daily driver 2016 Scat Pack with over 100k miles to take advantage of the supply/demand opportunity. I loved the car but love money more. The car had zero issues and put a smile on my face every time I drove it. IMO the 500 is a polished, upscale, high quality Charger. I am ordering this car because it is a V8, rear wheel drive, comfortable, GT that sounds great. Sound sells. Compared to the Charger (my reference point) I am expecting greater refinement, reliability and a resale value when I sell it. I visited two local Lexus dealerships and was told they can order the car for me at MSRP with zero markup. They have the Limited Edition versions on the floor at MSRP. Matt, thanks for the quality video and keep up the good work!
Great review Matt. Thanks so much for covering the IS500. We are so fortunate that this car exists. I had a 2011 ISF for several years, and absolutely loved it. After upgrading the intake, headers, and exhaust, it sounded like a cross between an AMG and a muscle car. I do miss that car sometimes. Have a great weekend.

@Asian sex symbol you mean coal or natural gas powered. Anyone buying electric because they think they're "helping the environment" needs to take a deep dive into how the overwhelming amount of electricity is produced.
If only Lexus would sharpen up the transmission so there's less lag between the paddle shift and the actual gear shift, and make the breaks and accelerator travel less, and, of course, replace the track pad with a dial or a small storage space, this car would be so much improved. @@Toyota4Life I’ve read your comments throughout the years on CZcams. Your loyalty is second to none. I grew up around Toyota vehicles all my life. No vehicle is perfect! Happy Motoring & Happy New Year!
Toyota to bring what? I had an 08 and currently a 12
@@XBrandonLeeX765 happy new year man. Hope you have a good year ! And yes I was raised with Toyotas also my first car was a Camry and moved up to the V8 Lexus and a also had a 2jz IS300 so I’m well diverse with Toyota and lexus products. Love the brand
@@glennnichols4220 A true upgrade to the 2URGSE. At this point they been milking this block for over a decade. They really need to FUEL the F division. I hope this is500 becomes an entry level performance platform. Don’t get me wrong I love this motor this is why I’m on my 3rd IS F. I had 2 MY 11’s & now MY 12.
Good review, you have a new sub
I am just so happy this car exist - that’s what Doug exactly said about that car in his Lexus review ? Do you copy him ?
Best sounding car in the market that’s not a Mopar or a Ferrari.
Thoughts on how this compares to an S4? I’ve got a 2018 and am considering trading for this. I know it’s an older platform but that engine is tempting.
In 10 years we will be lusting after these V8s (even more) once the world is neutered with the silent sound of EV appliances driving around the freeway.
When carbon neutral fuel becomes available, cars like this will triple in value.
Stop saying 14mpg as if everyone will get the same. You only got that cuz you floored it every few seconds. Drive it normally and 20mpg+ is very achievable.
@19:15 Great review overall but it’s important to note that this is a press vehicle that has gotten a lot of abuse from other auto journalists so its braking performance could be affected by that. It could probably use some maintenance by now.
True, it definitely could have worn out brakes, I'd have to drive another one to know for sure. As always, I just report on how things feel to me.
Brakes are worn out? 🤣
Is500 is the professional gentleman’s sports sedan. Charger for high school grads with $ lol.
Nothing wrong with some childish fun whatsoever with charger, just not as mature of a choice as the Lexus.
Im only 25. But one of my dreams is to be able to walk into a dealership and buy a car i want brand new One Day. Nor finance tho, buying it Free and clear.
Right on. With that hunger you will get there.
15:05 min - don't forget the Caddy CT5-V Blackwing.
Ridiculously slow transmission in 2021/22 but the V8 should make it a collector item in a decade or two.
