Should you buy a Lexus IS in 2022? Full Technicial Tour and Review

- Should you buy a Lexus IS in 2022? The Lexus IS was updated for 2021 and although it's called an all new model, it actually shares a lot with the older model.
In this video we will take a closer look at the current generation Lexus IS to find out if it's a good buy in 2022.
First we'll start with a full technical review of the Lexus IS. Including the Engine, Transmission, AWD system, Brakes, Suspension and Steering.
Then we'll take a look at the exterior of the Lexus IS which I think Lexus did a really good job in updating the looks.
We take a look at the Interior of the Lexus IS which keeps some old school touches that are welcome. Things like the mechanical shifter and the simplicity of the interior. We'll also discuss the ASC system and what I think about it.
I will also share with you some hidden features with the Lexus IS.
Then lastly we'll talk about some things I don't like about it and the final verdict.
The Lexus IS is a very nice car. it does many things well. Perhaps it's not the most exciting car to drive or the most advanced technologically. But it is built like a Tank. Buying the Lexus IS is worth it if you plan to keep it for long.

I just purchased my second IS. My first one was a 2015 IS250. Loved that car so much, I passed it down to my niece for her 16th birthday. There was no way I was letting that car leave the family. Of course, I had to have a replacement before I could let her have that one. So, I did what any passionate Lexus enthusiast would do. I bought the 22' IS350 F-Sport RWD in Caviar with black interior. Being in love with an inanimate object is one thing. The 2022 model takes it to a whole new level. I am obsessed with this car!! My advise, go get yourself one. You WILL NOT be disappointed.
My uncle never went back after Lexus, now he has 2-3 in the driveway. I always thought that they were dated and old but I'm starting to understand why - they haven't changed their formula when everything around them keeps changing. It works and it sells, and it's customers obviously appreciate quality. I'm currently looking at either a TLX or an IS. TLX is a modern vehicle in the tech department but I really appreciate the old school naturally aspirated V6 of the IS and the reputation it has.
I bought my first Lexus late last year. Honestly they should be the benchmark for other car companies to follow, they are simply a pleasure to drive above and beyond most.
@A L I agree. I went to Hawaii a couple weeks ago and rented a car. It was supposed to be a Toyota. They "upgraded" me to a new BMW... what a pile of junk. That hybrid system was so jerky, the seats sucked, the plastic interior was flimsy, and the power mirrors would constantly get stuck in odd positions and never return. No good.
Which Lexus did you get??
@@SergCarReviews ES 350
@@Fister_of_Muppets Nice! :D
@@Fister_of_Muppets I had an 2019 ES350 for a few years, I really loved that car, it was shockingly luxurious, way better than any of the BMW's I had owned previously and still surprisingly fun to drive. I have an IS500 now, its not as luxurious, but definitely more fun to drive.
Unlike other car reviewers on CZcams, this man here effortlessly knows the car inside and out.
people who own these take note.
maintain them, because in about 20-30 years they will be worth quite a bit.
one of the last fairly analogue cars that wont give you headaches.
its happening with 90 cars now and it will happen with this car as well.
all the miatas, z06s, accords etc are going for ridiculous prices since they are
1. reliable
2. "fun" compared to modern cars.
back in the days those care were considered boring in the same way this lexus is now.
We have two GS's a 460 and 300
Especially in Australia, they've recently pulled the IS line
the z06 reliable?? 🤣🤣🤣👏🏽👏🏽 you got jokes
@@sn5837 Ah no they haven't
I used to own a 2006 IS350.... I loved that car until the day I sold it for my brand new 2018 Camry XSE V6. Owning a Lexus is a true experience, even back in 2006. I can only imagine how far they have come since 2006. Great video, as always.
I have an 11 GS 350AWD. That is a very hard car to consider getting rid of  It is almost like a Tacoma with a Sedan Body.
I bought a '06 IS350 2 years ago that I'm currently giving a bumper to bumper overhaul. What a fantastic piece of machinery it is. it started life in Chicago and worked it's way to Minnesota over the years. Black with Grey interior. Yours? I would love to get in touch with the previous owners.
What made you switch
I have the earlier generation 300h and I love the car to death. So nice, comfortable and feels more expensive than it is.
XSE fantastic vehicle..
This is the video I've been waiting for. All of my questions on this specific vehicle have been answered. Thank you Sir. Keep your great content coming!
I bought a 2017 IS300 last year and, I must say, I'm envious whenever I see this model on the road. It's a huge improvement design-wise.
Thx for making this video of the IS , I just recently ordered a 2023 IS 350 and waiting for it to arrive soon .
I really enjoy your videos !
One of the most passionate & beautiful reviews ever… Keep up the good work.
This is by far the most informative review of this car from all youtube put together....kudos !! I am very interested to see if this redesign still has inner tire issues that are plaguing the pervious generations.
Yes, thank you for this! Really like the new IS and may get one so it's great to learn about all the technical aspects of it.
I agree this redesign is the best looking IS. I have the USB F-Sport. This car is so well put together everything is tight and secure and high quality because it’s made in Japan. Their work ethic is top notch it makes a difference where it’s assembled

Thanks to your channel I bought a used Lexus RX 350 (MY2010) for my growing family coming from always owning a Honda. The car is like a friend to me and I don't want to feel bad about having a friend whom I keep spending on so I prefer reliability over anything else in a car. I am very happy with my purchase and wanted to thank you in person for guiding people like myself in making wiser financial decisions. Thank you AMD
AMD this review was amazing. Your information is priceless!
Great content again. You do some good work. Still enjoying my 2021 Corolla. I changed the oil at 3500KM based on your advice. I weighed up doing it myself but it was relatively inexpensive in Australia to do it. The dealer thought I was a bit strange. I am due for the first service in November 2022 where it will hit close to 10,000KM.
Anyway, I will now have a serious look at the IS350 for second car. I was going down the Rav 4 hybrid model route but I think it is worth looking at Lexus.
God Bless.
Better to get a Ute since you already have a small sedan… I own an IS300 … the interior and cargo space is about the same as a Corolla. My brother has a RAV4… it is very nice to drive and quite comfortable and spacious for its size. The RAV4 would be a practical addition to your garage if you ever need to carry large items etc in the future.
Or you can get the NX which is the Lexus version of the RAV4 if it’s available in your country.
Hey Kemal, I'm also from Australia! I've made some reviews on the IS range, feel free to check them out :)
Looking at the Lexus website it doesn't look like the IS range is available in Australia. I am therefore longing for the ES 300H

Great video. I recently got a new IS350 and agree with all of the points you made! I'd also add incandescent turn signal bulbs (even my Toyota 86 had LED front and rear LED signals) and exposed trunk hinges (can crush your cargo) to the "don't like list".
Last year I drove the is350 as a Lexus loaner vehicle. I was very impressed, it drove like a coupe. Very quick and nimble yet refined.

Wow! I love the video. Thanks. Excellent info..
It’s like you made this video just for me 😂 👍🏼. Still sitting on the fence to see what vehicle we will be buying but this answered a lot of my questions so….thank you!
I think with the wait times along with just not wanting to break the bank we may end up buying a used version. The one part that is kind of holding us back is the limited room to fit a car seat in the back for our two year old but this won’t be the primary vehicle for transporting him.
The reason that we were sitting on the fence was the new 4Runner will be coming out soon and it’s kind of what we were waiting for but we’ve been put in a position that we need to get another vehicle now because our second vehicle was written off (tornado). Ideally we would wait for the second or third year of the 6th gen 4Runner in case they need to make any tweaks for reliability but we’ve been super happy with our 5th gen 4Runner which is my 4th 4Runner since I started driving (1985, 1990, 1991, 2016) and as long as they don’t screw up the looks and spirit of the 4Runner we will get another one one day. Way off topic now and sound like I’m a Toyota fan boy but in reality I’m a fan of reliability! My family has owned I think 13 or 14 Toyota, Lexus, Scion products up until now along with Subaru, Mazda, Nissan, Infiniti, etc….and while not perfect the Toyota products have held up significantly better than other car brands. Thanks for your input and all the videos you provide for us to watch!
Hi AMD. I have been following your channel for a while now. I know you did this video a year ago but I wanted to tell you that this video inspired me and convinced me to buy the IS 350 F sport. I bought one this week based on your video. I have been researching this car along with the Cadillac ct5V and Acura tlx type s and decided on the Lexus IS 350. Your video was very compelling and was a major factor in to my decision. Thank you for putting great car videos. I love the IS 350!

Great review, Mr. Car Care Nut! Planning on locking down an IS 500 soon!
Bought a 2018 CPO IS300 last year after owning a Honda Accord for a while. It’s shocking how quiet the IS is at highway speeds. And the Lexus service experience is second to none. They even replaced the battery for free when it died. I think the only common issue is the turbo regulator valve getting stuck on the 4 cyl. models
thank you i really needed this as i just recently purchased this vehicle. 😁
Mi manual red 2002 is 300 still running excellent ,very fun to drive and very reliable as well .In don’t plan to get rid of it any time soon .

The best part abour this video, for me, is to see 12k miles on a 2022 model! The owner absolutely loves his IS and knows that he can put whatever mileage he wants on it, not going to break after 30k miles like most German cars!

You made me decide to buy a 2024 RC350 Fsport III. Freaking love it. Thanks for the help
I definitely agree about the turn signal stalk- was the same in my late 2000s 328i. My other issue is that the front spoiler is way too low for this car (considering it’s not super sporty nature)- I have seen a new 911 parked next to my car and it had a higher front lip!
Nonetheless, I do not regret my purchase- absolutely adore the super comfortable and gorgeous red seats, excellent stereo, many wonderful convenience features, the awesome Lexus dealership experience and the hopefully many years of outstanding reliability to come!
And , I definitely agree about the style- this is the most beautiful car on the road that starts at less than 50k!
Thanks for sharing this video. Great information and informative.

EXCELLENT, NONE BIAS AND FACTUAL REVIEW....KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!!
Nice tech review of the IS, I have a 2019 IS350 AWD F-Sport and I love it and the plan is to keep it for a long time. The AWD system (with winter tires) is perfect for the snow and ice and it gives you a lot of confidence on slippery roads. Everything about the car is old school Toyota/Lexus - with the NA V6, full-time AWD with a planetary center diff, tank like 6 speed auto, and generally giving off that signature "Toyota Motor Corporation - high quality, durable, reliable" vibe.
A few things that should be pointed out - the IS300 AWD has the same engine and transmission as the IS350 AWD. The AWD system is a 30% front / 70% rear full-time system that can vary that up to 50 / 50 as needed. Lastly, the IS rides on the Toyota New N platform, not TNGA like the newer Lexus models.
I think that the IS, as it is right now, is representative of the old school of thought over at Toyota and Lexus. They set out to build a sports sedan that is fun to drive, has more than enough power for daily driving, but is also comfortable, practical enough for daily use, and is above all, reliable. Even the AWD system shows the old school way of thinking - which was to overbuild it, give the customer the best AWD system available that is also extremely robust and will not require frequent servicing. In a way it kind of reminds me of what they did with the Lexus GX, which is to focus first and foremost on making a solid, reliable car that does not require special maintenance and will uphold the Lexus badge for many years.
Awesome videos... I enjoy every single one of them! I've been debating between this and a 2022-2023 4runner. Yeah I know two different type but I love them both for their specific features.. L/Certified or Toyota Cert I would more than likely do on either model. Tuff decision both are around the same price...🤔
Great review 👍
100% agree to what was said to way Lexus cars are designed... I'm owning 2nd Lexus IS already.
Had 2nd gen now I've 3rd gen and I'm happy that Lexus is using maybe old but trusted and proven solutions.
I don't care about fancy new but not designed well gadgets - for me in car important is to be able travel without worrying what next will broke.
I have a 2021 IS 350 RWD, and I love it. I have had it for about a year and think I made the right choice. I used to have a 2016 IS 300 AWD, and this 2021 RWD 350 model handles noticeably better and of course is better looking. It was a great upgrade, especially for the addition of Android Auto and a touchscreen. I like having the naturally aspirated V-6, too. Sometimes I think about upgrading to the IS 500, but they are a bit hard to find and expensive right now.
So you would advise to go RWD over AWD in a new IS350? Also saves like 2 grand which could be allocated to the F sport handling package which I am VERY interested in if I were to get a IS350.
@@magictrixsyt7943 Unless you are planning on a lot of daily driving in the snow, I wouldn't even consider the AWD. It sucks in Canada, we don't get the RWD option on the 350.
Just got my 2022 IS350 F Sport will come back to this comment in 10 Years to tell you how it’s holding up
So far how is the car?
You did a great job. This video is the best technical review for the new IS. Others reviews are just bla-bla-bla. Do you work for Lexus or Toyota? I ordered a 350awd, I’d like to perhaps ask you some questions after it’s arrival.
You nailed it. I have 2005 IS300 with 122,000 miles with religious maintenance and it still runs and looks like new. My friends and family with the competitor BMW 3 series have spend a fortune on repairs and oddly brag about the costly repairs being special as they have fallen for the hype of superiority of German cars. I love the performance of German sport cars, but not at the cost of unplanned costly repairs. On top of that almost all the required maintenance I was able to easily do at home with the simplicity of the design.
You nailed it. It boggles my mind how people actually still defend German Engineering. It’s seriously trash. They cannot make a vehicle to last long at all, and people still mention German engineering as it’s a good thing. Yes they make good performance cars, but for everyday people using their cars for reliable daily transportation that is not what should matter.
I think if people actually stopped buying the Trash cans that are Germans because they will break their bank. That will definitely make the manufacturers re-think their reliability efforts. Yes if you have a lot of money to throw around they’re great cars. But most people who buy and drive them are barely affording to own those cars. Which is sad that they just follow the crowd into the hype.
I bought the 2021 IS350 RWD with the AVS package and I have to say I still love this car after almost 2 years of owning it. The only issue I had was premature tire wear on the factory Bridgestone Potenza tires at 13k miles. I heard this was a common issue for IS owners so I had to switch out the stock front control arm bushings for stiffer polyurethane ones. I upgraded to the F-sport performance exhaust and it sounds even better while still keeping the neighbors sane. Absolutely amazing car and I don’t regret my purchase. If I had to do it again I might slightly consider getting the IS500 but I am happy nonetheless.
Same! I have the IS350 RWD and it is absolutely amazing. I was a little worried about an RWD car in Kansas with the winter, but honestly, it hasnt been a problem. Not sure if this is an IS problem, but the only con I have had is the ride height (if you can call that a con). It is pretty low, and the front end will snag very easily on a parking block.
Everytime I get in my IS, its an absolute pleasure. I certainly look forward to driving my IS everyday and for a long time
It's the brand of tires. Mine wore out before 20k miles. Switched to the Michelin still going good at 50k
Which Michelin tires? Also how do you know they're ready to be changed?

This is the car I have been trying to buy but the pandemic has delayed it. Hopefully the 2023 will be soon available and just as dependable. Please mention the competitors in this class that are just as good, I like to have options but this is my number one! Thanks for the detailed and very interesting review.
If you are looking for sportiness and performance, almost every other car in this class is better than the IS (BMW 3, Mercedes C, Audi A4 and Genesis G70). They are all stronger, drive smoothier, agiler, and quieter. But they are not as durable and long-lasting as IS. If you plan to drive the car for less than 5 years /100,000km, those competitors are better. If you wish to keep the car for decades, IS will be your only choice

Was very lucky to purchase a 2018 is300 w/ only 10,450 miles & clean! Very HAPPY!!!
