I didn't know there was a gasket kit for the lower unit either. You saved me money by buying the kit instead of each part. Thanks again!!

Purchase a 1/4" socket screw 4" long, grind the OS diameter of the head down to where is just slightly bigger than the ID of the brass bushing - insert in shift rod hole bottom to top, you then have the option of using a phillips head screw driver inserted in the head to DRIVE it out or pull it from top side with a drilled bar and a nut -you won't damage the bushing and it can be reused.

I'm working on a 1981 25hp .. I got the seal kit and the impeller kit and 847 , just waiting on the spaghetti.. I bought the spaghetti you suggested.. figured I might as well, .. cost me like 40 bucks or so tho .. also waiting on the brass fitting removal tool. .... I have a question. I'm considering putting in a new thermostat as soon as I'm done with this bottom end... honestly I don't see where the thermostat is located tho ? Like I see where the water hose from the block goes .. but not sure how the thermostat is placed, or attached in this model? .. my last engine was a 72 6hp evinrude... this one is still fairly easy but .. just don't see the housing where a thermostat would go. .... not sure if it even needs replaced .. was gonna replace it even if it doesn't need it .. just so I know it's not a worry for awhile.

Frequently I have trouble getting the driveshaft and prop shaft seals out. I usually bend the seal out of shape so bad using the screwdriver method, I have to end up cutting the seal out with a Dremel tool. I sure would like to find a better way to remove these seals. I have done probably 20 of the old OMC motors, and I always struggle to get the old seals out.

READ THIS!!! Buy the Brass Bushing Removal Tool using the ebay link "thisoldoutboard" provides on the video! Got a '75 25h.p. and even using the tool--it was a $#@%& to get out! If you have a brass bushing to remove that's as tough as mine was, there's no way around it! In the process I "mushroomed" the striking end of the tool before the bushing even started to move! Do not hammer on the small end! Use a center punch and two 4" sections of angle iron to go between the bushing and housing so you can tap the special tool out of the bushing! This one was a beast, but it's done! Thanks to "thisoldoutboard" for the help. Ultra fast shipping on special tool!
