Suspension first! TFX 151 rear shock, Teknik platinum valves and heavier springs- it bounces and dives like a pogo stick😂 then I did a 20l tank. Then I did the rest of the stuff

great video I had one and that small gas tank drove me up the wall, always looking for gas stations. Getting a new one and this time going with a 5.3 gal Acerbis should give me over 400 km range. the one other thing is you should put on a center stand, makes chain maintenance much easier, and then the kid can get on the bike with out worrying about it tipping. These are great all round bikes, also you will use a more gas on the highway with that sprocket, On my Versys X 300 I went up one tooth and the miles per letter went up a lot with only 1 tooth difference, so going down will shorten your range, per tank of gas, and it is not good to start with, with the stock tank. Good to have that spare gas can but when fully loaded it will be a pain to have to unload stuff just to add gas. Just a few things to think about. When I had mine I had stock gearing and never had a problem doing off road, just have to give a little more revs some times. Great bike to take the little guy out for some camping trips on.

I have a 2018 DR650, spent 2K at Procycle getting it the way I want it. That's how it goes if you really want the most out of it!

First is Ricochet skid plate, next Sargent seat, Fastway foot pegs, BST kit, Acerbis fuel tank, stainless steel case guards, Pro Taper ATV hi bars, Happy Trails luggage racks, suspension front and rear, Galfer brake lines, countershaft case protector, Led lights, front and rear fenders, and finally Pro Cycle 790 kit, 15 tooth is fine, I road Copper Canyon with it, maybe a 16 tooth for long hwy miles, now you have a functional bike

Getting the bike was only half of it. By the time you get personal safety/riding gear and complete your upgrades/mods, you'll be into it for the price of your bike again, easily. I bought my DR used; it came with a plastic skid plate. Ditch that for an aluminum skid plate unless you're going to be driving on feathers. They crack easily. It looks like you got one heck of a start on some solid upgrades. You look to be doing it "right". Congratulations (belated) on your new DR650. Get ready to have some fun.

Check the valve lash, it only takes an hour. My 2019 had 1000 km and was burping, barking and stalling. Cut out the air box, installed a new pipe from Rocky Mt, and a stage 2 carb kit. Better but still a stutter bug. Finally the valve check found tight intake and exhaust valves and corrected all the problems. Feeler gauges were useless due to no room so by feel or dial indicator do the 4 though intake and 8 thou exhaust. Shazam the beast is tamed! I would guess as the valves wore in and the valve stem clips set the expanded and made the valve lash too tight. By the look of your 1970s merc in the garage and your previous bike mods you can whip this little DR into a very able dual sport.

Get the procycle jet kit, really wakes up the bike, more horse power, better idling, no stalls, fuel air adjustment underside of carb, and I just pulled my snorkel and the bike still runs great.

What made you decide to go with the Plex valves over the cogent ddc's? And also if that fmf pipe is on backorder I'd cancel it and locate one of the gsxr mufflers that fit it on eBay and got procycle mid pipe kit. Same performance with less sound. My 2 cents.

Hey Keith, I have an '18 DR as well, with 1500 miles. I changed the Tank and seat for my first mods. Tell me what you think of the mirrors and are you going to get a windshield? where did you find the fuel filter? I have not found one on mine yet. Also, beware of the reserve fuel hose as well as the vent box near the back of the bike. It isn't on the 2017 version.

Nice mods. I think I would want the extra gas can on the side rather than the top mount, but everything else is pretty cool.

I think i like fuel bottles for motorcycles more easier to throw in a backpack water bottle spot. Less fuel worth stealing.

  • @hardworkingamerican8847

Get the Thumper Jockey pod lights and a lithium battery . Easy install just mount the pods on the plastic part on each front turn signal . Also an LED headlight upgrade because the stock light is less than crap .
I need to change the pegs also and everything else you mentioned except the seat . It looks too wide in the front .

I was under the impression that changing the front sprocket messes with the distance between the chain links, and it would cause premature wear on the chain and spocket. ? My local Motorsports place said I need to change them both as well as the chain.

Lmao stay off PROCYCLES website.. its like DR650 crack! You will want to buy everything... i pretty much did lol
Do PROCYCLE front shock spring upgrade KIT, and at least rear spring, makes a wonderful difference. Also Procycles jet kit, FMF power bomb header and FMF Q4 muffler.. makes very noticeable power difference

My DR650SE is armed like you're building up to, All my suspension is set to my weight and can be adjusted to carry 250lbs extra on back. Windshields get dirty, scratched, and look funny on enduro for their cost. So, l did extensive research to develop a baffle that l had custom made. Awesome... Enjoy your bike. Good choice...

  • @thestevezchronicles2342

Have you road 2 up on that seat? If so how did the passenger like it. Trying to get a seat that my wife will like.
