    • @SaqibHussain88
      @SaqibHussain88  Před 5 lety

      For this video i have just set a plane mesh and played with the roughness value to have reflections and made the diffuse color abit darker to have some gradient effect on it.
      But you can have gradient in many way one way is from the node editor and other way is to edit it in photoshop after rendering the image with transparency ON.

    Your tutorial is awesome, but I have one question. Is it necessary to use edge split modifier instead of auto smooth feature in normal tab?

    • @SaqibHussain88
      @SaqibHussain88  Před 4 lety +1

      You can use it too, there is no issue in using it but make sure whether you use it or not you will need to define hard edges for some models but I have used edge split modifier with baking normal and had good results in unreal thats the only reason I have used it here other wise I would have use autosmooth.

  • @MarshallGreve
    @MarshallGreve Před 5 lety +1

    This is a super backwards way to bake normals but it is a good way of showing where to find what you need in blender 2.8.
    You should create your low poly model first. Once it is complete UV unwrap and duplicate it. then create your high poly from the duplicate and follow the rest of his instructions

    • @SaqibHussain88
      @SaqibHussain88  Před 5 lety +3

      Lol , its more advance than you think . There are more ways of creating the models its up to the artist to use what technique looks user-friendly . You can create low poly first and can also create high poly first what matters is the end result if your end results is trash then you need to find a way to fix it . In the above video i have explained how you can bake flawless normal map by using two techniques one without cage and second with cage but without any artifacts(error) .I think you didn't understand the purpose of the video otherwise you would not have commented .

  • @anuragkaushal4455
    @anuragkaushal4455 Před 4 lety +2

    Hello, I'm new to baking process and had a doubt regarding edge split modifier, what the use of it in this process and whats the use of displace modifier for the cage ?

    • @SaqibHussain88
      @SaqibHussain88  Před 4 lety +3

      Edge split modifier is used to split the edges of the model depending on mark sharps its done to have good baking result .
      Mark sharp the edges where you have marked the seams.
      The model should be split from edges just like UV map island.
      In blender I have tried a lot of things for baking but this works best for me to have flawless baking you can do that too.
      In 3d a normal is a vector or a line that's perpendicular to a surface or an object.Most normal map baking tools allow you to use a distance-based raycast. A ray is sent outwards along each vertex normal, then at the distance you set a ray is cast back inwards. Where ever that ray intersects the high poly mesh, it will sample the normals from it .

    Can I use subdivision surface on high poly and then use bevel modifier on it. Can I bake that on low poly? Which doesn't has any sub division or bevel applied to it?

    • @SaqibHussain88
      @SaqibHussain88  Před 4 lety +1

      You can use what ever for the high poly just need to carefully take care of the low poly and the uv map as baking is heavily dependent on Uv's and Lowpoly.

  • @tonyg9332

    I can't bake the normal map, it says that "No active image is found", because the high poly mesh has no material, and if I add a material and put the image texture, it recreates a UV map from the high poly mesh (I think) and bakes the low poly mesh's details on it. I can't find any solution, can somebody help me, please?

    • @SaqibHussain88
      @SaqibHussain88  Před 4 lety

      The reason it says not active image is found is because you will need to add image inside the material editor of low poly. And while baking make sure to select that image in the material editor other wise it will always show the no active image command.Second thing keep in mind that you will need to select the correct order before baking . First select the high poly and then the low poly after that select that image inside the material editor and then bake .
