- In this tutorial you will learn how to bake flawless normal maps for game or for film purpose using blender 2.8.
You can follow me on patreon where you will be able to download the the project files and models that i will be using in my tutorials and speed ups modelling or sculpting videos.

Man, I just love it when tutorials actually EXPLAINS WHY and what means those options we are checking. Thank you so much !
I love the way you fit a ton of info into a short-format tutorial. Nice job
Yes! i always want to make content videos in which i can share alot of info with you guys . Glad you like it thanks for the appreciation.
Thank you, your tutorials are helping me a lot to improve my models in Blender as I intend to specialize as a 3D Game Artist
I really like your videos. I am a game designer that just learning how to design in Blender and you really helps me.
Glad it helps. Thanks
Great tutorial and examples. The process is very clear if you have a basic understanding of Blender, UV and maps. Thanks.
You're welcome
Thank you, man! That new version was killing my brains till i watch this vid!
Perfect tutorial format!
thanks.
Super duper Nice! Thanks for sharing.
you're welcome :)
Thank you very much, my good sir, you just saved me a whole lot of time.
you're welcome :)
You explain very smooth. You are a hero man :)
Thank you from Thailand.
You're welcome glad to have you here :) .
Nice thanks.
Thanks, finaly tutorial what work!
Glad to hear that bro .
thank you amigo
you're welcome bro
Thanks, helped me alot
Glad it helped.
Great! I love you guy .
thanks , glad you like it .
Very nice. Thanks from India.
you're welcome .
I would like to know more about how you set up your backgrounds (with the gradient, ect.) Any advice?
For this video i have just set a plane mesh and played with the roughness value to have reflections and made the diffuse color abit darker to have some gradient effect on it.
But you can have gradient in many way one way is from the node editor and other way is to edit it in photoshop after rendering the image with transparency ON.
2:22 why not use decimate or the new voxel remesh feature here? would those work?
Superb tutorial pleas emake more
thanks :) i will be sharing more
You should make a video of you texturing this gun in blender itself,i think alot of people would like that.nice video btw 👍🏽
Thanks I will try to that in near future.
Your tutorial is awesome, but I have one question. Is it necessary to use edge split modifier instead of auto smooth feature in normal tab?
You can use it too, there is no issue in using it but make sure whether you use it or not you will need to define hard edges for some models but I have used edge split modifier with baking normal and had good results in unreal thats the only reason I have used it here other wise I would have use autosmooth.
very good Tut ;-) more about that, i love eevee ;-)
thankyou so much :) i like EEVEE too.
This is a super backwards way to bake normals but it is a good way of showing where to find what you need in blender 2.8.
You should create your low poly model first. Once it is complete UV unwrap and duplicate it. then create your high poly from the duplicate and follow the rest of his instructions
Lol , its more advance than you think . There are more ways of creating the models its up to the artist to use what technique looks user-friendly . You can create low poly first and can also create high poly first what matters is the end result if your end results is trash then you need to find a way to fix it . In the above video i have explained how you can bake flawless normal map by using two techniques one without cage and second with cage but without any artifacts(error) .I think you didn't understand the purpose of the video otherwise you would not have commented .
Hello, I'm new to baking process and had a doubt regarding edge split modifier, what the use of it in this process and whats the use of displace modifier for the cage ?
Edge split modifier is used to split the edges of the model depending on mark sharps its done to have good baking result .
Mark sharp the edges where you have marked the seams.
The model should be split from edges just like UV map island.
In blender I have tried a lot of things for baking but this works best for me to have flawless baking you can do that too.
In 3d a normal is a vector or a line that's perpendicular to a surface or an object. Most normal map baking tools allow you to use a distance-based raycast. A ray is sent outwards along each vertex normal, then at the distance you set a ray is cast back inwards. Where ever that ray intersects the high poly mesh, it will sample the normals from it .

@@SaqibHussain88 woah didn't expected a fast reply. Thanks
i'd rather save a low poly first then doing all the hard work, but thanx for the quick tutorial. new to blender
I used to do the same, faces alot of artifacts due to this.
Can I use subdivision surface on high poly and then use bevel modifier on it. Can I bake that on low poly? Which doesn't has any sub division or bevel applied to it?
You can use what ever for the high poly just need to carefully take care of the low poly and the uv map as baking is heavily dependent on Uv's and Lowpoly.
@@SaqibHussain88 thanks alot man! You're making absolutely helpful and awesome content!
thats way more complex then the way I did it. but my normal / bump map afterwards stopped working after I started messing around with the settings
you saved me from ripping all my hair out thanks dude
Hey man if you dont mind me asking. If I already have a texture on a mesh for the colors and skin and whatever does it work with the normal map or do I have to work over it?
Bro how did you make the gun like that (I mean that kinda plastic look in bottom and straight metal in the upper location) sorry for poor explication my English broke up with me lmao
Btw if you have a tutorial or any good video or source I'd he super thankful!
I can't bake the normal map, it says that "No active image is found", because the high poly mesh has no material, and if I add a material and put the image texture, it recreates a UV map from the high poly mesh (I think) and bakes the low poly mesh's details on it. I can't find any solution, can somebody help me, please?
The reason it says not active image is found is because you will need to add image inside the material editor of low poly. And while baking make sure to select that image in the material editor other wise it will always show the no active image command.Second thing keep in mind that you will need to select the correct order before baking . First select the high poly and then the low poly after that select that image inside the material editor and then bake .
I did everything, but I didn't see that I had to select the image at the end. I will try that.
@@SaqibHussain88 I've managed to bake a normal map, thanks. But the result is not that good, I think I'm going to do the baking with Marmoset Toolbag 3.
👍👍👍
Du you know how to bake Bent Normal map !
Yes I know .
@@SaqibHussain88 nice of you can do tutorial on it or point me to some tutorial thanks
@@dimitardimitrov7950 sure I will try
change to Linear
@@SaqibHussain88 try. normal map is a RGB image working in linear space
@@mrnomore yeah you are right it works with linear too thanks.
Complex shape waale low poly model ke liye bevelled edge normal map bake karne me bahut dikkat ho raha hai. Seams ban ja raha hai, dimaag kharaab!!
bhai ap phele koshish karo k practice karo cage wale process ko simple model par phir ap use karo usi process ko complex par ap ko easy rahe ga . Mera irada hae normal topic par dobara aur bhe detail video bunane ka takay jo issue aray hain woh bhe khatam hojaen .
@@SaqibHussain88 Thank-you bhai. Humne kal hi ek weapon model ke liye cage se normal map bake kiya tha. Almost perfect result mila hai. Thank-you.
No valid selected objects
what do you mean by that ?
ngl this was very confusing and hard to follow compared to the other baking normal videos i've seen
This video was released when blender had the beta release its not new now but hopefully I will make a new one in which I will try to explain how you can bake it more accurately .
many of your videos are all about guns so should we fear you??
Haha no dear alot of sports and video games have guns too so should we fear them too what kind of logic is that ? :D there is nothing wrong in learning 3d for games or for film.
This doesn't work
It was done on beta version may be that's why its not working I will try to do another one on the normal map topic I will try to cover that in that one.
Too fast bruh i cant see 100%
You can slow down the speed or use subtitles brother.
annoying pronunciation + great explation = most painful to watch
if a person whom doesn't understand pronunciation then there is an option for him to turn on the subtitles on CZcams .
But a person who doesn't want to learn = Will always cry and complain about the content material.
