- Enjoy the real-time sounds of throwing this wibbly wobbly vase - including preparing the porcelain using my Shimpo NVA-04S De-Airing Pugmill. The wheel I used in this video is the Rohde HMT600.
Watch out for the part where I almost lose the vase haha...
Thanks for watching and please subscribe for more content :)

Hi Matt, a very beautifull form
Matt, isn't it time for another video. Miss seeing you turn.
❤️❤️
Beautiful! 7:55 almost gave me a heart attack. How often do you actually lose a piece/neck while throwing?
Thank you! It really depends... I made 5 attempts at this shape on the day I threw this piece and lost 2 of them. Some forms are more challenging than others, this is particularly challenging :)
@@Matthornepottery That is somehow both stressful and a relief to know hah!
cool
Whatcha been making lately Matt?
Hi Matt. I’ve been throwing for about 6 years. I’ve started to throw with porcelain recently. I’m having a hard time getting the weight up from the bottom of the piece. I’ve tried with a little less water and then a little more water. I think the clay is fooling me. It feels thinner than it is. I’ll use 4 or 5 pounds of clay and I’ll get about 10 or 11 inches of cylinder. Obviously that’s not good. Can you help me virtually?
I have also thrown less weight and that works fine. I’d like to throw larger. Thanks Matt
I recommend starting out with less porcelain, maybe 2-3 pounds, and then only move up in weight gradually when you're really confident with getting results from a smaller amount of clay. Also try throwing with slightly firmer porcelain. One other thing that you may be able to see in my videos is I typically keep my pulls slightly narrower at the top until I've pulled up all of the porcelain, and only at that point do I shape it into a cylinder. Hope that helps :)
@@Matthornepottery thanks Matt! I’ve watched you quite a bit and it’s hard to get a good feel for how you do what you do. Please any more CZcams videos and I would be thrilled. And I’m sure that all of your “fans” would love it,too!
