Other viewers have already mentioned that J.C.B. makes these loaders for Volvo under licensing. Still, the mono/single boom skid steer is a much more user friendly piece of kit to use. After being given the opportunity to demo one for 10 days, I sold my 3 other brands and use 2 J.C.B. One has the telescoping boom. I didn't need a third machine. Love them. No problems or complaints. We've had zero injury events since switching to the single boom.
I've seen that telescopic boom from JCB pretty Innovative idea...
Are you still happy with the jcb skid steers?
@@aussiefarmer6012 Hi there! I could not be more pleased with my J.C.B. 5 months ago, I added a 3rd JCB Tele-skid steer model for use in the yard and my hobby farm. Don't need the floatation of a CTL. I traded my non teleskid model for another teleskid so now I've 2 teleskid CTLs and a wheeled version. I also added an ASV brand CTL. It has superior capabilities in mucky areas and soft sand. It has yet to gotten stuck and it traverses much steeper inclines than the JCB. It also rides noticably smoother but my number 1 machine of choice is the JCB. If I could only have 1 machine, hands down it would be a teleskid JCB. It's biggest advantages are the ease of getting in & out, the visibility when using it and the benefits of that telescoping boom. The visibility when operating these JCBs cannot be over emphasized! We'vee had "NO" accidentally collisions with the JCBs. Not a single one! Can't say the same for the ASV or previously owned brands.
@@stevenandrews6627 How have the JCB teleskids and your ASV held up? Do you have quite a few hours on each of them now to have a general sense of ease of maintenance, overall reliability and comfort?
I'm very pleased with the mechanical reliability of both my JCBs and the ASV. As I've aged, I've had some trouble on certain days with exiting the JCB and walking on a muddy track. It's an age thing though and even when muddy, the JCBs are easy to get in and out of than the typical front access models. I've between 2890 and 3765 hrs on the 4 machines. The ASV has needed more part failures because its been used in harsher terrain. Still love it. I'm going to trade in the ASV for an upgraded model. I'm retiring soon and will take one of the JCB tries kids with me. It does a superior job of grading because the boom extends out and you can see the bucket edge where it contacts the ground. I'm still very impressed with both JCB and the ASV. If I had to choose only one machine, it would be the JCB Teleskid.
My 79year old dad uses a Cat 257 on his farm. For him the side entry of a JCB/Volvo would be better for him now.
Another start to an outstanding series. Thank you to you and Volvo for helping us all learn. BTW, the Mrs. is a champ!
Might be commenting on a old video but I'll tell you these JCB's (Volvo's version is gone now) are total game changers especially the teleskid version. If you do a lot of work alone and need to get in and out of the machine while the loader is raised, which is most of the time, the side door is such a no Brainer to have! I got two 2023's one on wheels and one tracked and sold my Cat259D3 for one and I couldn't be happier.
Good information man. My neighbor when I was little got killed when he was getting out to open a gate with a round bale suspended overhead. You can go your whole career and never see a hydraulic failure until the day you happen to get under one.
I drop hydraulics on a weekly basis to adjust the closed-side setting on an LS1400 cone crusher. It's only got a few inches of travel, but when you depressurize it, it GOES! Several tons down in the blink of an eye - it is not gentle. I don't want to think about that on a piece of mobile equipment with ten feet or more of travel.
Have spent many hours in a new jcb with tracks moving big hay bales. These machines are top notch. Picked up two at a time roughly 1800 lbs and did not feel tippy side to side at all. Only thing is it does not like it when you turn on a dime when trying to line bales up while loading
Thank you Stan and Volvo for making a series like this. I’ve been wanting to know how a skid loader works but seems a bit intimidating to me. Looking forward to the rest of the series.
So excited for this series!!
8 years of experience working in flat work finally decided to start my own company and I think I’ll go for a Volvo such as this one. Thanks mate for your info.
The skid steer episodes are always my favorite!
I run this skid steer at work for both winter snow plowing and for summer jobs and I love it. The visibility is second to none. The only bad thing is it is a bit delayed on the controls so you can't do any grading with it but it is good for anything else.
I had 5 135 skidloaders my rental fleet, never had issues with the single arm, bushings seem to hold up just fine. Customers loved the side entrance. Only down fall I found was that seems volvo likes to use cheap plastics in the cab for panels and control knobs. Never held up to the weather.
This was awesome can’t wait for part two!!!
Great content 👍
Thanks to Volvo for providing you access for your video. I’m in the market to upgrade going to give them a serious look see.
Dude! You're a smart guy and you have so much knowledge to pass along to us but you talk too much when you have a guest speaker in your videos... Please Please.. let your guest experts speak instead of standing in the background while you step in constantly and add color. A video with a guest speaker is a different type of video than your usual videos which I love also. I mean watch this video and pay attention to the speaker's body language everytime you interrupt him...
Go Nikki! Can't wait for the next one.
Volvo makes some great machines, I run a volvo endloader at work and love it!
I wish I had this series for today! I literally just jumped into a skid steer today for a grading job. Everything went well, but woulda loved this series sooner! 😂
This machine doesn't work well for fine grading. The responsiveness of the hydraulic system is too slow to make fine adjustments as you grade. By the time the machine has done what you asked it to in terms of a bucket adjustment you've already gone awry and you have to back up a couple of feet and and restart the pass. Even experienced operators look like they are just learning to grade on one of these machines having to back up constantly. Stick to traditional skid steers for pure grading jobs and heavy excavation jobs. Otherwise this JCB/Volvo will shine pretty much everywhere in between particularly with forks.
we have a volvo one in our asphalt crew for all our bobcat work. its a good machine. bit lighter than the other crews clarks or Cat machines but overall a nice machine. the operator enjoys it more so as its not uncommon to have to swap attachments ( profile head, 4 in 1 and the rotary broom) up to 10 times in a shift depending on factors.the fatigue climbing in and out is lost with easy access car door.
Interesting design. We will see if it takes off. I can tell you from personal experience that Kubota skid steers visibility is also very, very good!
Takes off?? JCB has been making these for 20+ years.. lol
I often wondered about one armed skid steer thanks for the information
I like New Hollands boom support. The driver raises the arms, and behind the driver on the right side there is a small lever that moves pins out on both side. You then lower the boom on to the pins and you are golden.
Great video Stan!
Thank you Volvo for doing this
So easy to get into and out of, this makes normal double arm skid steers look like a gym hall :)
Thank you to Nicky, Volvo , and Stan!
thank you Volvo ,, love this 1 arm bandit
I love the video, and skid loaders
Man I love that Volvo Single arm. I am one of those noobs that has never driven a Skidsteer. I have driven 200K tractors but never a Skidsteer. I hope to buy one soon. Was planning on just teaching myself.
Also, I would weld a door or gate over those coup[lings. Seem like they would be prone to being smashed for things like tree work. I was afraid the attachments would be proprietary, but man. KUDOS to Volvo for not doing that.
My wife & I bought a brand new New Holland LX 885 in 1998. I had never really driven one. Maybe 10 minutes at a dealership. I'd say I self taught myself. We & I mean we, I taught my wife how to use it, mostly used it at our trailer dealership. Moved a lot of trailers & removed a lot of snow. Had 2 buckets, a SnowWolf snow plow (highly recommend), a high flow Erskine snow blower. The blower worked very well. It would blow through almost anything. I have seen 2x4's blow out. It didn’t like 2x6's. Fortunately it had a hydraulic relief. No shear pins. The blocks of wood would be under the jack stands of the trailers & buried in the snow.
Need to set up a demo on the JCB 3TS-8T teleskid. It’s an absolute game changer. Once you get use to the extra reach you’ll never want a standard boom again. Very important to have the dealer plug in to get the controls set to your liking. Then you have 3 pre set quick change options on the dash.
The John Deere compact track loader I run has a lever in the cab to lock the arms so it makes it simple to keep safe
Roadhog if there’s not an actual mechanical device to stop the cylinder, it’s not guaranteed safe
1st love your channel number 1 fan 💯💯
Thank you volvo
John deere 250 series 2 has the lock safety for hydraulics right in cab. Such a great feature
I live in lakeville Minnesota and always drive around to see if I can find u
i can see you getting one of these in the future just the better visibility advantage alone
haha stan doesn't like cameras so he is doomed to run a single arm skid!
Thanks Volvo that's a very nice piece of machinery. Besides the battery location.
Thanks for watching Robert !
Will you try out this bigger volvo wheeled excevator with tiltrotator? That we can see in the back.
These are jcb skid loaders. Volvo has a licensing agreement with jcb to make them under the volvo name.
JCB builds them for Volvo
It’s a Volvo engine that’s the only difference
They looked extremely similar
Makes sense, I thought I recognized these from farming simulator 17
Answered my question before I could ask it.
I learned how to drive both a skid steer and a articulated front end loader by hoping in it worth literally no instructions. But I'm pretty mechanically inclined so I figured it out in a few min
Great video
Thanks Ronald!
Thanks volvo
You can thank JCB for that machine. They've been making them for decades.
it is good safety to have visibility all around and this is old knowledge that it is a joint venture with Volvo and JCB building them in the USA. It is a solid product and performs well in all areas.I just has some differences than other brands. Some of you have opinions and that's all they are, just opinions, or as an owner would your rather have an OSHA rep coming to you with a document about an accident your employee caused on a job site, the side entry is the safest on the market.
Holy crap is pretty good visibility. Wish I had holy crap visibility!
As far as visibility goes, a good operator is aware of everything around them.
That's right Scott, thanks for viewing
And it's even easier to have that awareness when you aren't fighting the design of the machine for visibility. Going to wheel loaders from skid-steers is a serious "Holy Crap" moment - like going from looking out the door of a refrigerator to riding a giant pencil.
my favorite thing about these skidsteers is the 2 stage transmission. we do alot of back and forth at long distances and it makes it more productive, if you do things properly. when we got to demo one i loved it but i still fill that all of your support on one side is gonna wear out those pivit points very quick. atleast for us because we remove alot of material, such as 16" of concrete
Kyle Weeks My 1998 New Holland LX 885 had a two speed transmission. Made it so nice for many jobs.
If you "fill" that all the support being on one side would wear out the pivot points, do you think JCB would still be in business?
Thanks Volvo
looks fun to drive
They need the option for adding OTT on this model the door design gets in the way of Tire Over Tracks
wish I would've known you were coming to PA I would've like to have met you
JCB has has what they used to call the "Robot" for 20+ years now.. its a solid design and much easier to get in and out of.
We tried these out for building demo. The main pin on the boom is the weak point. The booms get loose quick. Probably ok for dirt work. Just stay away from the heavier boulders. Too bad, I Loved the side entry
Please link the other parts in the description
I wanna get the jcb extending boom skid loader. Lift further and higher
James Penner it’s worth every penny
ME TOO
its just jcb skid loaders that have 1 boom but jcb builds them for volvo too and if u get the jcb one they make them that can boom out
Awesome video! I had no idea JCB and Volvo were partners, pretty cool.
I’ve recently looked at a “pre-shop” caterpillar 216 for a good price, but I kind of like the side entry and for what I’d be using it for I’m not worried about 1 vs 2 booms. Would you buy a pre-shop machine?
Hey this was excellent. I do also like to see how you do some services like oil filter change and gas filter change as well as pricing range in comparison to a bobcat and John Deer especially on the biggest models out there. I think once we all know the TOP of the line prices of each we can put the Volvo into the perspective what the single boom operation cost us.
LSE LLC (Lumanet Solar Energy LLC) JCB consistently comes in priced under Deere, Cat, and Bobcat.
@@pilotmatt293BULLSH*T
what happened to part 3 and 4? I was so looking forward to them as I have a MC115C and I am always learning. Do you know why the hour meter counts down and not up?
New Holland/Case boom supports are operated in the cab with a lever
Another thing about being able to jump out with the hydraulics up is when your attachment falls on some thing you need to check my foot got hurt the other day because the new skid steer didn’t latch right so just be safe while operating one of these and a hint for part 4 maybe show some thing falling off a quick attach fail
I haven’t seen the hydraulic stuff fail but a oger falls fast when I louses all support
I agree with what he's saying about the caterpillar having a backup camera the damn thing has a fisheye lens so things that are to the side of you actually look like you're going to run over them it's kind of disorientating and you find yourself staring at the screen when you're backing up instead of using your vision directly which is a bad habit that I'm actually starting to get into that I need to break
We have 2 side entry skid steers and won't be getting any other type. They are the JCB brand which Volvo has a patent agreement on. Not sure the HP of that 135 Volvo there but the JCB ones only have 74HP now which kinna blows, but its to avoid emission laws. We do have an older one on tracks that has 92HP and it pushes like a tank.
Outlander Contracting the 74 hp ones are suppose to be compatible to 90 hp skidsteers they changed the pump design to use less hp so they could stay emissions free cus that's the way to go
Torque figures are up also
I've done a bobcat by myself, ever tried raising the forks to adjust them and then get out of the cab? You cant unless the forks are only 1" off the ground
I git it!
CAT is a two loader arm design yet the safety strap is a 1 man operation that can be safely installed without putting a body under an unsupported loader arm.
Stan you got the best wife letting you talk her into running these equipments is there any more like her around?
2:35 I believe the term you are looking for is “voluntold”
Cool
Thank u
Do they make the cab on the other side for England? 😜
Chris Evenson these machines are jcbs Volvo has a deal with jcb to put Volvo engine in there skid Steers in return Volvo can also sell jcb skid steers but under the Volvo name so there is only the English version
It was a joke. 😁
Chris Evenson no it comes with a kettle
😂
9:00 I'm sure cat has that figured out.
1 I'm getting older. Climbing in and out of a machine is not nice. The side entrance in my most important feature.
2 Visibility is number 2 on the list. Being able to see is awesome.
Good engineering well built with a good operator it will last its a mini telehandler.
Thank you Volvo. Hey Volvo, why don’t you a dealer in San Antonio Texas? Also when can I expect a extendable boom arm or a track version?
A-Veteran Lawn Care JCB will not grant Volvo the contract for the Teleskid. If you would like to look at Teleskids, look up Hlavink Equipment and Hendershot Equipment, both great JCB dealers in Texas. When I was a JCB salesman, I sold a Teleskid to a gentlemen down in Humble last year, not far from SA. Someone can definitely take care of you.
Excuse the ignorance but why would you need to use the cylinder jaco for? Or in what situation?
What do you mean by cylinder Jaco?
What's a cylinder JACO.....?
goooooooo Volvo! THX a !
Would be great for auger as long as it pushes straight down
You might think you have good side/side visibility until you put that boom up a bit
I want to see this equipment after one year of Daily use in Landscaping and Pool Work.
Royce Anderson I've seen them after a year of daily mine work at a gold mine and with proper maintenance they hold up great.
@@akshooter271 . Thanks for the Feedback!
I’ve ran a single boom skid steer when I worked at a saw mill last year and it’s not hard at all
I don't see parts 2, 3 & 4. Are the titles named different in the last 3 parts of this session?
Hey guys, anyone got experience with tracked mini excavators (like Komatsu PC50MR) in water environment? Can water harm final drives and other things around?
It sounds like Volvo has their screech set way too high on their back up beepers... lol did you meet letsdig on this excursion?
That's the new standard for back up alarms. The alarms are loud enough to require hearing protection so you can't hear it. I expect back up cameras will be required soon as well as proximity sensors.
Just like the JCB skid steer
It's the first time I heard them called skidloadrrs I always heard of them called bobcsts
I'm not sold on these at all, and I know for a fact I'm not the only one. I'll stick to a cat, Kubota, JD, or bobcat. Thanks
Adam MotoLandscaping Kubota is proven junk.
The new bobcats are really leaving sour tastes in two of my friends mouths and now looking to switch after life long loyalty to them....talk to them before buying you're next bobcat
Cat and John Deere are taking over reign from bobcat. I personally love the side door but I only have one leg. Climbing into any piece of equipment is a nightmare lol easier the better.
Up front let me say I have never ran one of these. But my concern is the over time the left side of the bucket will drop. Even an inch or two and you can not level grade. But it is interesting.
They are warrantied to last
I have never used a monoboom. When we were in high school, a guy in the class behind us only had one testicle. He didn't work very good.
Single boom skidsteer... any problems with eventual sag on the bucket?
If it does sag, can you shim it level again?
I've got a JCB telescoping skidsteer its litterly the same thing but the boom goes in and out, I've got 600 hours on it only but never had the problem
JCB make a single arm skid loader and a telescopic single arm skid loader
hey Stan i have a question whats up with the reverse sound that lots of machenes have by not haveing a beep
They may have switched it out seeing it's a test facility
It's a white noise back up alarm. Sold as an option on these machines. Certainly less annoying than the standard beeper and apparently proven to be more effective.
I'll never be without a side door skid loader around my sawmill , my Volvo MCT125c works great, smooth controls and I've lifted a 5500# log with it. The only way I'm buying another brand is if they start making a side door skid loader. 10 people a year get killed getting out under the bucket on front door machines.
Finally someone that agrees the camera is stupid. Those cats need it because of no visibility. That's why I don't own one. Also if you look at the cat 289 tracks. There hydraulic hoses are right where you shovel out mud. Seems safe when you stab around in there with a shovel
What differences do you find between a camera and a mirror? There are camera systems that allow you to flip the image to simulate a mirror view. I know our operators never looked back or in the mirrors. They just backed up until they hit something, pull forward and back up a little faster to hit it harder.
Jcb makes unique equipment
Newholland has a leaver in the cab for the loader lock witch my opinion would be safer than that
kylewil12plays new holland are cheap so I think it would fail like most holland
My name Is jeff
I’ve two NH skid steers bought new in 2002 and both now have around 6500 hours on their clocks. Both had new starters, batteries and fanbelts and a few hoses but have otherwise been very reliable. One has more sideways play in its tool carrier than the other and has been breaking the long bolts that hold the carrier’s pivot cones lately. One has issues with the seatbelt safety start switch, which is a ridiculous price to replace and one has had a water pump replaced.
That’s it apart from radiator top tank repairs some years ago. Not bad for a combined 13,000 hours.
Huw Williams I don’t know if it’s just newholland that has seat belt/ seat safety switch problems but the two I have run they do also the seat belt doesn’t always real out nice it likes to lock before you get it buckled
Mine have no issues that way as long as the belts are pulled out sufficiently in one go. It's the microswitch in the buckle that I have issues with.
kylewil12plays That's what I have . Best unit never broke. 1994 L785 Perkins no electronic junk either.
This guy is saying exactly what Volvo wants him to.
These are such a good idea, I don't follow why monoboom isn't standard.
its funny I was totally against a one arm skid steer until I was forced to operate one for a few years and now I feel the opposite. I mostly do snow plowing, truck loading and some grading and would take one of these any day over any 2 arm machine. Viability, speed, lights and fuel tank size are unmatched in the skid steer industry.
Also are these electric over hydraulic?
