  • Where should I go in France? This video covers a nice itinerary for first time visitors to France. Our suggested France tour starts in Paris for a few days visiting the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomph, the Louvre, then off to Normandy for the D-Day beaches, then the Loire Valley for the Chateaux, and if you have time visit Provence for a few days.

    Tip from someone living here: enter Louvre from the metro/Carrousel du Louvre entry, there are far less people there. You can then exit via the main entrance and take fabulous shots of the Pyramide on your way out.

I still think forex trading is the best and easiest way of becoming debt free.

    I would absolutely love to see more itinerary for more places. It’s one of the most frustrating parts of going someplace I’ve never been with gauging how far places are from each other and if doing so many things are even possible with the given time.
    Anyways, did most of these sights while in France, so this is a great vid for anyone planning on going to Paris. The Louvre is a MUST.

    I don' think we ever did more than two in a day, maybe three one day. Highly recommend getting out of bed early to beat the tour buses if you want to avoid the crowds at the better known Chateaus like Chenonceau or Asay le Rideau. Visiting Blois was a real surprise. The magic museum across from the chateau was an unexpected treat. Carcassonne, in the Languedoc, is a great place too! There is just too too much! Nous sommes Francophiles aussi!!🍷🍷Santé!

    Bayeux is by far my favorite town in France, you overlooked one of the most moving places to visit on the Norman coast other than the cemetary and that is a little church in Angoville-au-Plain where two young medics, Robert Wright and Kenneth Moore part of the 101st airborne Screaming Eagles were trapped treating the casualties during the D-Day invasion. They cared for both American and German soldiers during the fighting. The little church still has the blood stained pews, crakced tiles in the floor from a motor round that came through the roof but didn't explode. It is only about three miles from Utah Beach and you drive pst the road to the church on the way to Utah. It is a story that is not told very often but should be. It was documented in the PBS special call Eagles of Mercy and can be seen on youtube.

    In Provence, don't waste any time in Nice (just another big city) but go north to Vence and St. Paul de Vence for a half day visit for a taste of the real Provence and then travel 2 hours to Moustiers Ste Marie, one of the most beautiful villages in Provence and spend the afternoon and evening there. This is a great center of faience, a special type of pottery for which it's famous and finish off the evening with the best dining experience you'll ever have in your life at the restaurant of Alain ducasse, one of the great restaurateurs in the world.

  • @MizzKittyBichon
    @MizzKittyBichon Před 6 lety

    More "to dos" for Paris:
    1. Check out the Latin Quarter. There are lots of cute little cheap shops there.
    2. Head to a bistro in the evening, sit at one of the outdoor tables, and enjoy a nice cocktail.
    3. Enjoy a delicious crepe. There are crepe stands and restaurants on every corner in Paris. I highly recommend a nutella crepe, as nutella is super popular in France.
    4. Take a boat ride on the Seine River. I strongly suggest doing this during the evening so that you can watch the Eiffel Tower light up before your very eyes as you're riding along the river and listening to an Edith Piaf chanson blaring through the boat's speakers. This was my favorite moment when I was in Paris.
    5. Have one of the local street artists create a portrait of you and/or your loved ones. But remember to not pay for the full price! Instead, you barter for a cheaper price. Trust me, you've save some money. I made the mistake of paying the full price of 60 euros (which today would be about $70 USD), and I absolutely regretted it in the end.
    6. Walk through the pretty gardens. The Tuileries Garden is a great place to start, but it's not the only garden worth strolling through.

For your European Followers that come from countries close to France (like Germany) I would suggest driving to France by own car and doing your itinerary with the exception of Paris (leave that for a separate 3 day weekend trip by plane or train). As a kid in the 1980s and 90s my family spend 3 weeks every summer at the Atlantic Coast near Bordeaux, which has btw absolutely great vines as well. :-)

    In Normandy, plan to spend a half-day or more in the old-city.portion of Rouen (not pronounced Rooon as Mark says it but two syllables roo-anh with the nasal "n" ending). It is the old Norman Capital where Jeanne d'Arc was burned at the stake. As Mark says, the Cathedral which was the subject of one of Monet's series paintings is not to be missed. Actually , the first thing you need to do on arriving is to take the little train on wheels that leaves from the tourist office every hour or so and takes you on a complete tour of the old city so you can get an idea of what you want to go back to see. When you visit Mont St. Michel, allow a couple of hours to visit the town of St. Malo about 25 minutes away in Brittany, one of the most charming small walled coastal villages in the north of France.

    I have a question. How much cash do i need to bring along with me when i arrive at France customs? Because I checked their website and they require you to bring the certain amount of money with you depending on your accomodation. Lets say if you prove it to them that you are staying at hotel then you have to have 120 euro per day. So 30 days of travel will be 30 × 120. If you have someone to host you then its 32.5 euro per day. So I wonder if i have to bring all the cash with me to meet these requirements?

      You really have visited a lot of places in France. Any chance you've also visited more.. "secluded?" (but famous among the french) places from the middle of France like Rocamadour ( www.visit-dordogne-valley.co.uk/discover/cultural-heritage/villages-to-visit/rocamadour )?

    You know Mark I've been to France about ten times since 1978. Nearly a year's worth of time all told. I've never really even thought too hard about going to Normandy and the Loire Valley. Of course I know Paris quite well. But then again I'm not a typical tourist. Since I've been living in Alaska I average two months or three month vacation every couple of years. (We have different standards up here.) I almost took a World War Two trip in 2005, which certainly would have featured Normandy, but I switched to investigating puppetry (long story) which then had further ramifications on the rest of my life. (I've been invited to help create a puppet museum in Tbilisi Georgia.) I can understand the 14 day vacation idea, especially for Americans. It's certainly better than staying at home. But I really prefer deeper travel with a focus. Finding a way to get into the culture. My favorite places in France. Le Puy, Sarlat, Charleville-Mezieres, and Lyon. Lyon is amazing and no one really discusses it. It's in my top five cities in Europe. Thanks again Mark.

    • @ArnieandJo

      The whole South West of France is a must. It's not just Périgord (which can be too crowded in summer). Try Quercy with Rocamadour and Saint Cirq Lapopie, try Corrèze with Turesne and Collonges la Rouge, try Aveyron with Conques and La Couvertoirade, try around Albi with the famous Cordes sur Ciel... There's a ton to explore here. Many castles in that region surpass the ones in the Loire Valley in my opinion, because they are older military castles. The ones in the Loire Valley are mostly ornamental.

      Yeah aside from rennes and st malo just a wee bit outside of rennes. Actually Brittany was wear I really noticed for the 1st time the warm and hospitable nature of the French people. It really was where I finally grasped what true french people are. The warmth and hospitality. I was a lot younger and it made a great impression on me about how the ride paris waiter stereotype people have for all of France really was just a Paris waiter thing. So it was a true eye opening experience.

      I’m from California, but my wife is Nantaise and we spent our honeymoon in Bretagne.
      Must-see places are Quimper (pronounced “cahm-PAIR”), the megalithic cairns of Carnac, Brest (castle is great, and we went to an amazing seafood restaurant in the harbor), and the pink rock coast of Perros-Guirec.
      Similar to Normandy, drink cider (and their apple brandy Lambig) and eat seafood. BUT do eat crepes and galettes as often as possible, as this is their place of origin. Galettes are the savory variety, the type you get for lunch of dinner. Crêpes are the sweet ones, for dessert (NOT breakfast, to my fellow Americans). The varieties are endless, and I recommend eating these daily!
      Bretagne (Brittany) is far too underrated.

      Just like you said, It's very easy outside of Paris. Highways are everywhere. Some roads are very scenic in regions like the French Riviera, Provence, Dordogne, the French Alps... However, some medieval villages/cities are 100% pedestrian in the old town, so you have to park just outside of it. And when it's not 100% pedestrian, some streets can be narrow in the old the town. But most of the time you just park in a easy access parking.

    Paris😍. My favorite city! I did prefer Musée D’Orsay to the Louvres. But I love french impressionists! Two things I tell people to do in Paris... 1.Cimetière du Père Lachaise and 2. Les Catacombes. I adored Avignon! Such a beautiful medival city. Thanks for the tips Mark! Now you’ve given me the itch to go back to France😉

    If you have the full two weeks I'd rather visit Brittany on top of Normandy & the Loire Valley. Also if you're doing the D-day beaches, don't miss the big cliffs at Etretat, they're a must.
    Provence is not about cities in my opinion. Avignon and Arles are an appetizer. The real Provence is Alpilles and Luberon for the villages, and Verdon for the gorges. A lot of Americans who saw quite a bit of France told me the gorges du Verdon were their favorite thing.
    But to me, as a Frenchman who saw every region of France except the islands, I'd say the best are : the Alps (especially Queyras, Briançon, Ecrins, Vercors), French Catalonia (for the mountains, the côte Vermeille which trumps the côte d'Azur, and the villages like Eus), the gorges (not just Verdon, but also the gorges du Tarn and gorges de l'Ardèche), for a coastal destination I'd say the North of Brittany (from Mont Saint Michel to Presqu'île de Crozon) and finally the villages of the South West (the Périgord, Quercy, Averyon, and around Albi, so much to do here). If you haven't seen those regions, I urge you to do so.

      @woltersworld  Před 6 lety +8

      I'm guessing you are taking the Eurostar train. So take early train to Paris and later train back. So Louvre 1st and hit the big three mona lisa winged victory and venus de milo (get the map when you get in as all 3 are highlighted in the map) so dont send a ton of time as you dont have much. Next isle de la cite with Notre dame. Grab lunch in Latin quarter. Then grab the tourist cruise boat from near isle de la cite or Latin quarter down to the Eiffel Tower. Hope it there and just walk around the base to take it in. You want have time to wait in line to go up but you have time to take it in from the park behind it. Next walk or metro to the arc d triumph (sp) and then walk down champ's elysee road back towards the gardens in front of the Louvre. Grab the metro back to the station and head back to london. You aren't seeing everything but you will see a lot and give you an idea for a longer trip next time to paris

    Mark , thought about you earlier today. I was in St. Louis on business and ran into an English tourist while in line at the Gateway Arch. He flew into Chicago, rented a car, and is driving all the way to Santa Monica, CA making various stops along the way. I didn't catch how long his vacation was, but I just thought to myself that he is going to be spending SO MUCH TIME driving. And he isn't a first time visitor either, but it seems he's spent most of his time along the west coast. I just kept thinking of your advice of picking a region and focusing on that to prevent burn out. I hope he has enough time to take a day off here and there and enjoy some small town life in the southwest or have a good time in a bustling Texas city to prevent burn out

    • @zefyrisd69
      @zefyrisd69 Před 6 lety +1

      I mean if you visit well known places in France most of the case you'll get in contact with other tourists or peoples from the tourism industry, as migrants aren't especially living near those places... Now if you plan your trip with buying the cheapest hotel you can find then it could be in some place you won't like, especially in paris, sure, that could lead to some bad encounter, especially if you look like a foreign tourist, but that should be obvious. If your hotel in new york is in the Bronx because it was the cheapest you found, you can't really complain about security when walking out of your hotel right?

      I never experienced any problem from immigrants in Paris. Overwhelmingly they are lovely. The dodgiest scene I saw while there was some local French drug addict/drunk who was all dishevelled and twitching unpredictably. I gave him wide berth. Yes, the tourist areas are plagued by pushy salespeople and scammers of all races. But that's true of any major tourist city.

      France is very much a capitalist country, but like every developed country (except of course the United States) they have universal health coverage for residents. I don't think you will get free medical treatment as a traveler, but costs for procedures will be much lower than in the U.S. For example an MRI will cost around $300 versus $1200 to $2600 in the U.S.

    OMG, if you are trying to be a guide for people, at least make the effort to pronounce the places correctly. In the old days, it was hard, but now you just click on internet and listen. And if you are actually there and still pronouncing them wrong, well you might as well wear a teeshirt with "I"m just an American tourist" printed on it. Next time you make a video about how not to stand out as a tourist in France, add don't mispronounce the place names to it.
    Any tourists who want to visit the Normandy beaches should absolutely not ask for Cane (it doesn't exist) or Cannes (down south) or Rennes (in Brittany) or Rhône (a river also in the south). The beaches are near Caen pronounced Kaw-n or Rouen pronounced as it is written in two parts (Roo Awn). Amboise is pronounced Awm Boizzz.
    I've actually often watched Wolter before, but this really makes me wonder about how accurate any of the stuff he says is. Any restaurant that has frogs' legs on the menu is almost certainly a tourist place only.
