  • EXPOSED: The Rupaul's Drag Race Contract (Season 14 Participant Agreement)
    ►JOIN MY PATREON: / bussyqueen
Hi Ugly! Join me today for an exposé of the Drag Race Contestant Contract (Participant Agreement Form) all cast members of Rupaul's Drag Race must sign. I was able to obtain a copy of the Season 14 contract, so this is all super fresh drag race tea. We'll be covering topics like how much the queens on drag race get paid by World of Wonder, what they're required to do when filming, what exactly they sign away for a chance at becoming America's Next Drag Superstar, and discussing their NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement "Obligation").
The drag race contract is distributed by World of Wonder, the production company behind Rupaul's Drag Race. The show currently lives on VH1, which is owned by Viacom Media Networks (VMN).

Seems a bit crossroads demon deal to me - I wouldn't sign it, but I can understand why so many do. The exposure a drag artist gets is unparalleled, but is it really worth getting milked that hard, for that long? For some uber successful Queens perhaps it's worth it, IDK.

Just thinking: do you think all the cameos and gigs count as the "appearances" that force you to be available for the next 4 years?
Like Vanjie entering the workroom to help the people for the snatch game, or Raven and Juju being contestants at the SnatchGames?
Or even Victoria Porkchop occasionally being in the audience?
So if rpdr doesn't want to let go of you, but doesn't want to make you compete in a season either, they make you do these little gigs to maintain their contractual power?
This would explain why they've been showing us Porkchop all these years lol.

I started watching when one of my high school students put on a drag fashion show fundraiser for the school--he helped create drag personas for students, teachers, parents, and community leaders for the show. He came to school in what he called "basic drag," and everyone loved him...and this is in farming country in Minnesota--about 1.5 hours from where Utica grew up. Unfortunately, my dear, sweet student passed away from an ongoing battle with lymphoma during COVID last Spring. We still haven't been able to have a community gathering to celebrate his life.

If a Queen doesn't like the terms of the contract it's fine, nobody is gonna force her to sign the contract. Sure the Queens who are not on RPDR do not get the same recognition of the Queens who get on the show, but they likely never got the recognition they deserve even before RPDR became popular, so it's not like Rupaul made their careers harder than they were...
