Hearing this back in 1990 must have been like hearing the future, because this still sounds fresh today, like genuinely still amazing
I was like 15 when this came out I remember first hearing it on Red Alert Master mix it like hypnotized me, id never heard anything Like that before I remember being like "WHO TF IS THAT!?!!" then found out who they were by one of my boys who was a DJ played it at his crib

Coming from Holland, I was 20 years old on an internship in New York in the summer of 1990. And they played this song éverywhere, especially in the hottest club at that time. Which was called Nell's, where you would find the major superstars snorting coke at the toilet.
Needless to say, I instantly fell in love with the tune and I have been A Tribe Called Quest fan ever since.

Weird comment.. "Killing me softly" only took 3 seconds off this song to accent the riff. It's recognisable but not an essential part of the track. Not to mention that it's very likely Q-Tip got it from somewhere else.
