@@magicpotionstudios9519 you dont lie?

What?
Man... if these young men only knew the timeless classics they were writing. So much respect to Tribe, thank you for all your music.
They did I'm quite sure, but like many of us.We don't see the future let alone the longevity of our accomplishments.
Raw talent! They wrote all of it themselves! True artist!
I think art becomes timeless when the ultimate goal is to truly make people see and feel your passion. It's a sincere conversation. The business that supports such art is driven by people who understand your vision and market/sell it to reflect that vision, trusting the art will do the rest.
Oh they knew "we put hip-hop on a brand-new twist"
don't forget peace to all the hieroglyphics crew
I'm one of them older dudes that love reading these comments from people discovering The Tribe for the first time 😌 I'm excited for y'all 👊🏽
I'm 20 but I been bumpin tribe since I was 14, thanks to youtube and later spotify, like they said.... they just have fun with it and that's why the tribe will forever be timeless

I remember when this music video first came out this was one of the most creative things in the world to me at the time. The transition from one song to the next, the segue in between, Tip & Phife taking turns, the switching from black & white to color, the bugged out eyes, the acapella cypher at the end. RIP Phife. One of my favorites...
During the Era of gangsta rap, the social consciousness and pure artistry of a tribe called quest was unmatched brilliance!!!

Q-Tip’s verse on this song is so brilliant and it’s one of my favorites of all time.
I didn’t understand really when it came out, but I loved the flow and q tip voice. Back then we didn’t have the internet to look up lyrics. Now 30 years later I checked the lyrics and definitely blown away. His first verse is on another level.
Just saw a documentary about them and decided to look up some of their stuff, one of the best decisions I ever made.

@@spin_soul yes still doesn't make any sense are people trying to walk a narrow path like off the beaten track hmm
anthony wragg a narrow path means it’s unopened to different and/or wide routes, thus he wears new balance sneakers figuratively as an indication of how open he is to new things/directions in life rather than being boxed into a simple mould of who he’s supposed to be.

The rap music of the 90’s is iconic. Talent and intellect was crazzzzy!!
I love how hooks were so rare back then, nowadays lots of rappers are lazy and can’t go 3 minutes without saying the same thing over and over again, dudes like ATCQ, mob deep, wu- tang, sons of Sam and others could write songs that could last up to 6 minutes and you would never hear the same things being repeated, back then true creativity flowed. Shout out to our late phife Dawg!
It's called a chorus. they're used to induce "catchiness". Not display lyrical skill.
You're right. We don't hear that unique songwriting anymore in rap music. I miss that. Almost everyone sounds the same. No creativity nowadays. Love A Tribe Called Quest. One of the great rap acts that ever lived. RIP to Phife Dawg.
@@pansysgarden uhh, you heard of Tyler, the Creator?
@y would u even sub ? A hook and a chorus are basically the *exact same* thing. Here's the official definition:
A hook is a musical idea, often a short riff, passage, or phrase, that is used in popular music to make a song appealing and to "catch the ear of the listener". The term generally applies to popular music, especially rock, R&B, hip hop, dance, and pop. In these genres, the hook is often found in, or consists of, the *chorus.* A hook can be either melodic or rhythmic, and often incorporates the main motif for a piece of music.

Nothing wrong with having women in videos. There are a lot of 90's Hip-Hop videos with women & the song is still a classic & well as the video.
what's wrong with women? you sexist or somethin bro?
The melancholia embedded in the sample mixed up with the heavy drums and the out-of-this-world lyrics, still gets me: 32 years later. True hip-hop will never age.

I'm the whitest guy on the planet, I know almost nothing about this sort of music... but holy shit... these guys are frinking awesome. I've never heard hip hop as smooth, sublime, and with such musicality as A Tribe Called Quest. This is timeless stuff, everything they do sounds as fresh now as it must have sounded when it was new. You can listen and know that it will still be being played a hundred years from now, two hundred years from now, and more, as an example of the best music the 20th century had to offer.
Yeah, man I must've played this tape a million times back in the day. It was the best full album I had heard and so different with the music they used. Everyone was sampling James Brown and/or Parliament. They were one of the first to really use deep jazz tracks and it gave them a completely different sound than everyone else out at the time and pretty much since.
Buffoon1980 Can never limit your just because you are part of a certain group (white), everyone is the same in mind, only variable is the enviroment and culture

I got Tip and Shah, so whom shall I fear
Stop look and listen, but please don't stare
So jet to the store, and buy the LP
On Jive/RCA, cassettes and CD's
Produced and arranged by the four-man crew
And oh shit, Skeff Anselm, he gets props too
Make sure you have a system with some fat house speakers
So the new shit can rock, from Bronx to Massapequa
Cause where I come from quality is job one
And everybody up on Linden know we get the job done
So peace to that crew, and peace to this crew
Bring on the tour, we'll see you at a theatre nearest you
Hey yo but wait, back it up, hup, easy back it up

Back and forth just like a Cameo song
If you dig this joint then please come dance along
To the music cause it's done just for the rhyme
Now I gotta scat and get mine, underline
The jazz, the what? The jazz can move that ass
Cause the Tribe originates that feeling of pizazz
It's the universal sound, bless the brothers on the ground
And the ones six below, you didn't have to go
Some say that I'm eccentric cause I once had an orgy
And sometimes for breakfast I eat grits and porgies
If this is a stinker, then call me a skunk, I ask
("What's, wrong?") Now check it out

You wanna diss the Phifer but you still don't know the half
I sport New Balance sneakers to avoid a narrow path
Messin' round with this you catch the sizin' of 'em
I never half step 'cause I'm not a half stepper
Drink a lot of soda so they call me Dr. Pepper
Refuse to compete with BS competition
Your name ain't Special Ed so won't you Suckle With the Mission
I never walk the streets, think it's all about me
Even though deep in my heart, it really could be
I just try my best to like go all out
Some might even say yo shorty black you're buggin' out
Zulu Nation, brothers that's creation
Minds get flooded, ejaculation right on the two inch tape
The Abstract poet incognito, see I run the cape, not the best not the worse

If you changed the wording to "groups" then yeah, I totally agree. The landscape of rap has changed so much that rap groups aren't nearly as relevant as they once were. However, we have Black Hippy, Odd Future and Pro Era all being relevant collectives in the modern era. Hell, the Dungeon Family was established shortly after Jazz was released and even if they don't collaborate too often, it just goes to show the scene shifts so much that something new and exciting is always around the corner, you just have to be on the look for it.

It's 1991 and I refuse to come wack
I take off my hat to other crews that tend to rock
But the Low End Theory's here, it's time to wreck shop
I got Tip and Shah, so whom shall I fear
Stop look and listen, but please don't stare
So jet to the store, and buy the LP
On Jive/RCA, cassettes and CD's
Produced and arranged by the four-man crew
And oh shit, Skeff Anselm, he gets props too
Make sure you have a system with some fat house speakers
So the new shit can rock, from Bronx to Massapequa
Cause where I come from quality is job one
And everybody up on Linden know we get the job done
So peace to that crew, and peace to this crew
Bring on the tour, we'll see you at a theatre nearest you
Hey yo but wait, back it up, hup, easy back it up
Please let the Abstract embellish on the cut
Back and forth just like a Cameo song
If you dig this joint then please come dance along
To the music cause it's done just for the rhyme
Now I gotta scat and get mine, underline
The jazz, the what? The jazz can move that ass
Cause the Tribe originates that feeling of pizazz
It's the universal sound, bless the brothers on the ground
And the ones six below, you didn't have to go
Some say that I'm eccentric cause I once had an orgy
And sometimes for breakfast I eat grits and porgies
If this is a stinker, then call me a skunk, I ask
("What's, wrong?") Now check it out
All my peoples in Queens ya don't stop
Now all my peoples in Brooklyn ya don't stop
And all my peoples uptown ya don't stop
That includes the Bronx and Harlem ya don't stop
Now to that girl Ramelle ya don't stop
I said because Ladies First ya don't stop
And to the JB's, ya don't stop
And De La Soul, ya don't stop
To my Brand Nubians ya don't stop
And to my Leaders of the New ya don't stop
To my man Large Professor ya don't stop
Pete Rock for the beat ya don't stop
Everybody in the place ya don't stop
You keep it on, to the rhythm, ya don't stop
And last but not least on the sure shot
It's the ZULU NATION
Thank you for taking the time, much appreciated! Shalawam

Ahmed Suliman its always insane
Man, Phife is my ALL-TIME favorite Rapper… So underrated and under the radar but he schools most other rappers in so many ways. Every time I hear him Iget echoed up knowing he's gone. Just a beautiful man with supreme talent and it sucks I'll never get to hear his voice on anything new.
May my GOAT RIP.
Phife's flow and verses are unbelievable.
