Lyrics
Mirror mirror on the wall
Tell me mirror, what is wrong?
Can it be my De La Clothes
Or is it just my De La Soul?
What I do ain't make-believe
People say I sit and try
But when it comes to being De La
It's just me myself and I
It's just me myself and I
It's just me myself and I
It's just me myself and I
Now you tease my Plug One style
And my Plug One spectacle
You say Plug One and Two are hippies
No we're not, thats pure plug bull
Always pushing that we formed an image
There's no need to lie
When it comes to being Plug One
It's just me myself and I
It's just me myself and I
It's just me myself and I
It's just me myself and I
Proud, I'm proud of what I am
Poems I speak are Plug Two type (type)
Please oh please let Plug Two be
Himself, not what you read or write
Write is wrong when hype is written
On the Soul, De La that is
Style is surely our own thing
Not the false disguise of showbiz
De La Soul is from the soul
And in fact I can't deny
Strictly from the Dan called Stuckie
And from me myself and I
It's just me myself and I
It's just me myself and I
It's just me myself and I
Glory Glory Halleluh
Glory for Plug One and Two
But that glory's been denied
By kizids and dookie eyes
People think they diss my person
By stating I'm darkly pack
I know this so I point at Q-Tip
And he states, "Black is Black"
Mirror mirror on the wall
Shovel chestnuts in my path
Just keep all nuts twistin up
So I don't get an aftermath
But if I do I'll calmly punch them
In the 4th day of July
Cause they tried to mess with third degree
That's me myself and I
It's just me myself and I
It's just me myself and I
It's just me myself and I
Contestant number four, do you have the answers?
Uhh…I saw, at the tip of my tongue...

Its devastating that Trugoy didn’t live to see their entire catalogue released! RIP legend! Been bumping to their entire catalogue all day!
Vinyl should be here today!
Proudest Hip-Hop day in life. Stream all their stuff so the brothers can finally reap ALL the benefits! RIP 🕊
It's like prince after he passed away he music became available really sad rip
I believe Tru's Spirit pushed the victory on through. De La Soul vibes are heavily needed right now 🙏🏾✊🏾💗
@@dj_ath Received mine yesterday (Mexico City). Extremely happy with the fact I could finally get my hands on a new one for a decent price. Discogs was showing the past 3 years ridiculous prices of over 800 USD.
My uncle Sylvester Covin is in this video (Heavy set guy with fur hat, big chains, and sunglasses). Ironically, he passed away suddenly 6 days after Trugoy. It gives me solace knowing I can always see my uncle while also listening to one of the greatest rap songs of all time. RIP Uncle & Trugoy.
May your uncle rest in peace he will always be a legend❤❤
Wow! Sorry for your loss.
💗
Sorry for your loss. Your uncle's name is legendary and visual.
Rip. Hope you cherish those memories
congrats De La for finally owning the rights to your music. shouldnt have taken this long for yall. RIP TRUGOY ✌️
They owned the rights, the problem was clearing the samples for streaming
Older white man from across the pond here; this was an incredible song back in 1997 and it is STILL one of the best tracks ever.
The song came out in 1989
@@user-sc1ud4fc2p I thought it was older than that! I think the listing must have been for a re-release or greatest hits compilation. Thanks for confirming:)
It ain’t the skin, it’s the soul!
Run DMC and De La Soul. A big part of my childhood ❤
Hilarious because this song was back in the golden ERA 88-95 this particular track was early 90s definitely NOT 97 so are truly a fan? I would say NO most of you wp are not true fans and never were
This song (and album) got me through a really hard time in my life. I will forever be grateful for DLS.
Much Blessings...

We use to play this over and over!!!! we didn't have cable so our families friend let us borrow a vhs or vcr tape and we would play this and other videos over and over!!!!! we were so broke!!!!
It’s crazy knowing my father is the in this video and him being the big dude with all the big gold chains and Black Shades being the class enforcer 😂😂😂. The guy who put the stereo on the desk. Love you pops I’m glad you showed me this 💪🏾💚
That's what's up!
How old was your pops during this? And when did he have youM
@@EriPages I gotta ask him but I know it was his early 20s and he had me in his late 20’s. I was born in 95
The day i got my license and first drove by myself in my own car, this song was JUST starting on the radio. How perfect, huh? That was a VERY long time ago. Still a great song. I will NEVER forget it.
Sounds made up
Golden age of Hip Hop....
For real!💯👍🏾🥰
Music is the best time machine ever.
I just recently turned 49 years old and this and much of the music around this time was such an integral part of me becoming a teenager going into a young adult and starting to see the world with more awareness than just what was going on in my small part of the world. I'm lucky to have experienced this firsthand. RIP Plug 2!
I was 17 when the album came out. It rewired my brain. None of us could believe what we were hearing.
Yes!!!!
I love how Q-Tip just appears from out the side of the void.
Finally all of De LA Soul's albums are finally available on streaming platforms!!
FEELS SO GOOD!

Thank you de la soul Hip Hop community. Be myself good way and not bad way.
One of the greatest songs and videos of all time!
On god brotha
Agreed!!!
No doubt #trailblazing!!! #DLS4Eva
🤟🏾😎💯
This really is just total art. also the video production mirrors the looseness and freedom of the early De La musical and rap style. It's just amazing and such a gift for us and many future generations to come
Summer 1989. I'll never forget it. Batman, Do The Right Thing and the best Era in hip hop hands down. Thanks fellas.
90s rap had so many different styles and flows , it's just not ever going to be duplicated , ever .
This was release in 89
@@godzilla1315 okay , but that was 90s rap vibe , pharcyde , fugees , wu tang , arrested development , too many to list 👍
@joseortiz8094 yes but take in consideration, those cool cats probably made those songs a year before or maybe 2, all they needed was someone to play them on the radio and record deal
eighties nineties generation

Once In a Lifetime experience!
Come on people, let's get these views up and up where they belong. De La Soul are one of the reasons hip hop still exists. One of the best groups there's ever been. Not just hip hop groups, groups period. Thank you for the music. Thank you for the education. Fly high Dove ❤️
oh yeah ,legends of hip hop
I remember when 3 Feet High came out and I got the cassette at a Caldor. Played it until my Walkman chewed it up. Thank you for being part of the soundtrack to my life for 30+ years!
Exactly😆lol! #StraightCassette🌻#IntheBeetle👏🏽#DeLAGroovin'🙌🏾
maaaan...this album, Tribe's debut, Black Sheep, Leaders of the New School, Jungle Bros...was the soundtrack of my college years. The soundtack of our roadtrips and escapades, basement parties, all night political discussions. The soundtrack of my early life.
@@juniorjames7076 I love how certain music like this can bring you right back to an exact moment in time.
Never heard the Album gotta check it out.
I loved it so much I called a friend and made them listen to the whole thing - OVER THE PHONE! And she didn't hang up!
I hope that with the streaming release of their classics that they reach a new younger audience i would love to hear this blasting from cars and blutooth speakers around the city all summer
the world is on a different vibration these days sadly.. this doesnt even touch most kids if they listen to it.
Fr, just recently decided to listen to their debut album. It’s fantastic.
This is the hip hop I vibe with. I’m a 90s gal through and through
"We hate this song, but you love this song. So love this song, love this song "
-DeLaSoul
RIP Dave. De La forever
Why did de la soul hate this song?
Old school… 80s classic. This is from the late 80s and was one of my favorite songs. I was just guided to listen to it and it just lifted my spirits again and reminded me to be true to myself amongst the insecure pack of haters that can try to make you conform when they’re not solid in themselves. Don’t let anyone take you away from you ❤
It’s about damn time , de la soul finally streaming everywhere
Still sheer brilliance after all these years.
Just got back from the Trugoy tribute/D.A.I.S.Y. Experience at Webster Hall. So thankful to experience all the love everyone has for Dave. 🕊
Can't find a replay of it anywhere yet. Hoping!
@@tezzasmif. It was streaming on Amazon Music on Twitch maybe they will upload it. For now there's only Twitter and IG clips.

@@Kwaku211 thank you! I found it on here- fullblast radio though parts are mashed up maybe coz of copyright? So I'll find on amazon 🕊🌸
You know you make dope music when it gets better over time. RIP plug 2.
Timeless song, timeless album.... I have as cassette/cd/mp3, now streaming - I can't believe 30 years has passed
RIP Plug2
Some good dudes, there. Very smart and talented. I wish I could’ve seen them live. I had just graduated high school when this album came out. Wore my cassette out in the car and at home.
So wonderful to find the Soul finally. They gave us a voice when we had none yet in Hip Hop. The alternate, the weird, the higher consciousness leaning! De La 4ever!
I was in secondary school in the UK when this first came out. This was the era of real hip hop that we grew up listening to.
So much respect for De La Soul... Their music and style was so unique and memorable. True pioneers....RIP Dave Jolicoeur..
One of the greatest Hip Hop records of all time.
First, this is the song that introduced this odd nerdy white kid from Texas into the world of hip hop that still loves it all these years ago. You guys brought a true positivity to the genre that we need more of today. Thoughts up to Dove and respect for everything D.A.I.S.Y
why announce ur whiteness
@@ThePrinceOfTheTalkbox Just being real. It made me feel like there was a bigger world out there than what I knew. Opened my eyes to other folks around me and helped shape me into the well-rounded person I am today..
damn this was the soundtrack of my college years! This, then Tribe Called Quest's debut, then Black Sheep, and of course Public Enemy's Fear Of...it was a Golden Age. The soundtrack of our roadtrips, our parties, all night political discussions, and the soundtrack of our reunions. The Native Tongues were the soundtrack of my life.
He's trying to show that this band has a periphery demographic.

Yo! I had the De La haircut, black medallions, and the rayon shirts when I was a free spirited 15 y/o in high school. Now I’m a stiff 49 y/o black executive in Corp America. Sigh…Life is but a blink.
Do you at least still have the spirit of the 15 year old you used to be?

I love this song.
Forever a Classic! ✌🏽
I’m here, still listening to De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest, Dj Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince etc.
To me this will always be the best kind of hip hop.
Agreed but not sure bout fresh prince in that list.. maybe gang starr instead? 😘
@@iammoz Nothing wrong with Gang Starr, but I have a lot of fun listening to Fresh Prince, specially the albums “He’s the DJ, I’m the Rapper” and “Homebase”. Will Smith is a good storyteller and I just enjoy listening to it 😊
Me, myself and I is an encompassed spiritual enlightened mentality.
Complete classic, thank you De La Soul for these incredible records. RIP TRUGOY 🙏🏽🕊️
This song still hits 34 years later. R.I.P. Dave.
I haven't heard this version in years. Real chills
When I was young I hated the rap that was on the radio and was talking to an older guy about it and he wrote down a couple artists I should listen to and DLS was one of them. Took me on a journey of discovering hip hop in a whole new way and this music became a huge part of my life, and I'll be forever grateful
Props to De La for this amazing album and Parliament Funkadelic for the source of amazing samples on this track. Hip Hop was my gateway to 60s/70s jazz and funk!
Absolutely grieving over our loss of Trugoy.
Back in the late 80s/early 90s, hiphop became one of the most important influences in my life and carried me through puberty and into adulthood.
DLS is a bedrock of talent! Thank you to all DLS members, crew, and fans all over the world!

RIP Dave. Glad your first album gets a chance to live again online.
My all time favorite Da La Soul song EVERRRRRR!!!!! So many college memories when I hear them, it hurts sometimes! R.I.P. Dove Plug 1!🙏🏿
Been a fan of rap since the late 70s, but not until this album and the whole native tongues movement could I relate to the rappers themselves. Iconoclasts doing their own thing their own way without concern for what anyone else thought about it. De La Soul is ALIVE!!!
Rappers nowadays are not relatable
The day has finally came. 3 feet high and rising can now be enjoyed on streaming.
Happy my aunt put me onto De La Soul. Rest in Power Trugoy the Dove
Greatest sample ever. They did it RIGHT! R.I.P Brother.
🙋🏾♂️ Great music Great times. So glad I was there during the Hip Hop golden age. Todays music it trash. R.I.P. Trugoy, thanks for the wonderful music you will be forever missed.
This groups catalog has aged so well over the years. And I loved it when it came out but now, these words mean even more to me. #DeLa4Ever!
One of my favorite samples of all time 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
It's a great sample
De La Soul team, who's in? (Reply if you're in).
55 year old Northern California white man, married for 26 years, raised 2 boys to grown men, been in Biotech Industry for most of my adult life, grew up on Rock, Rap, and Country. Still a Top 5 album for me, still listen to cuts off it once or twice a week. I miss bumping this in '89 out of my 4 door Datsun 510, beat to shit but had MTX 10"s in a custom box in the back because... priorities. Poor community college student. Best friends during that period were African-American Theo, starting running back at the local high school making his way through life, Pacific Islander Ernie, built like a garage freezer had a heart of gold, and curly haired White Boy me. Lost touch with them over time, Theo passed away about 6 years ago, Ernie disappeared long before that. But this album always brings me back to how much I loved Theo and Ernie, and though we were all barely surviving financially, how much simpler life was. Spittin' game at girls, eating fries in the college cafe, driving to SF on Saturday nights pretending to be ballers. Man I miss those days.
FINALLY. RIP Dave 🙏🏾👑
