      no, ð is one of those weird letters that are used for precise speaking. like how ā is pronounced as "AY", not "ahh". thorn is the basic speaking letter, ð is the advanced speaking letter.

      Not really. “You” comes from Old English “ēou”, while “þou” comes from OE “þū”. It just so happened þat þe singular/informal “þou” slowly fell out of favor as þe plural/formal “you” took over.

      I’m not a linguist historian or anything but I am German and in german “you” (at least informally) is “du” so that would draw a neat line from the common ancestor of “du” in german to “thou” in English to thorn looking like “Y” and turning it into “You”

      ð can stay dead tbh, unless its purpose changes to something more useful. English isn't a fan of differentiating voiced/unvoiced, and trying to add 2 similar letters at once is much harder than 1 or 2 distinct letters, such as to replace the "sh" sound.

    Fun little fact: Thorn has a companion in it's obscurity. You ever notice that the th in "thorn" sounds different than the th in "that"? Well, there were at one point 2 seperate letters for these! Thorn (Þ)dealt with the th without voice, whereas Eth (Ð) dealt with the th with voice!
