One of my favorites.
I had a huge crush on Belinda in the 80's. The Go-Go's started out as punk rockers, and they tamed their show for mainstream success.
Belinda tells the story of how she met her husband. Her band was at a reception in the White House. She had half-shaved, green hair; torn ripped clothes with fishnets and safety pins. Here future husband was a PR guy in the Reagan administration, wearing a three-piece suit. They both knew it was love at first sight. He is the guy in her other video, "Heaven is a Place on Earth".
I was at a CT casino in the late 90's, and the Go-Go's were doing a no cover show at the open-air center bar, where the gamblers could watch. They sounded as good as they did on their albums from a decade earlier. The casino messed up because they underestimated the Go-Go's continuing popularity. They should have put them in the arena. No one could move on the gambling floor because the crowd was 10 deep at the railings. If i had known that they had reunited and were playing, I would have arrived earlier to get a seat in the bar.
He was Morgan Mason, the son of the great actor James Mason. He was himself a child actor who played Liz Taylor's kid in the Sandpipers.

Saw the Go-Go's live in Durham NC in the '80's. Their set was fine, but a little nervous (they weren't all instrumental virtuosi) but Belinda's voice was magic. She exudes charm and beauty in this video and it just makes me feel I am an old soul trying to live in a new world. I remember when it was a virtue for a girl simply to be nice.

Belinda has always been gorgeous! She inspired so many of us in the 80s to wear hoop earings and black turtle necks and chop our hair to the chin!!

Belinda is a great singer. Her cover of Band of Gold off the same album (her solo debut album) is great. Has that Olivia Newton John feel. That was her husband at the time in the video (Mason Morgan). Even Andy Taylor (Duran Duran) makes an appearance (the guitar player).

Me and my daughter loved this song when she was in school. My daughter and me were very close she died at 37. I miss her every moment of everyday.

Written primarily by Paula Jean Brown, who was a Go-Go for about as long as it takes me to type this. When Jane Wiedlin quit the band in 1984, the group moved Kathy Valentine to lead guitar and brought in Paula Jean to take over on bass.
This lasted for all of TWO shows, and then Belinda and Charlotte Caffey decided they weren't feeling the new alignment and the group split up. But Paula Jean ended up making a contribution, after all. Lovely song, lovely performance, lovely Belinda.
This was Belinda Carlisle’s first big solo hit and it is my favorite! That is Andy Taylor formerly an original member of Duran Duran on guitar on this song and in the video! In this video, Belinda reminds me of a young Ann Margaret (starred with Elvis in Viva Las Vegas), a great actress known for her beautiful and sex appeal!❤❤

This was her first hit as a solo artist. Her and her crew did such a great job of picking her style for her first video release. Hair, makeup, clothes etc were so classy and fresh. I remember seeing it for the first time as it was getting major radio play.

This is a wonderful song! 1986 saw her breakout album “Belinda” The album depicted a celebration of her ascent from the hard partying days of the GoGos to having peace of mind. Another great song from this album is “I Feel the Magic” which depicts a celebration of life without drugs.
Actually, if you read her book, Lips Unsealed, she was still partying hard after the break up with The Go Go’s. It’s a good read, you should check it out! Love Belinda!

The Go Go’s had Belinda Carlisle and Jane Weidlin as genuine solo superstars in the band. Jane killed it with “Rush Hour” which surpasses “Mad About You”. Lots of performance clips exist on the net for “Rush Hour” with most being live performance type clips.

This was a Renaisssance for Belinda. She'd just married Morgan Mason (the man in this video, son of actor James Mason - they're still together). She's lost a lot of weight, changed her hair colour and you could tell she was really happy.
Now that you two have listened to a few by Belinda, it is time to check out another Go-Go and her solo work. Jane Wiedlin has a great fun song called World On Fire. Y'all should give that one a listen.

This song brings back my happy place memories of the summer of 1986 at 14 yrs old. That was a great summer of music from hard rock to mainstream rock/pop like this one. This song reminds of being at the swimming pool hearing it on the pool's radio speakers jumping off the high dive. Not to mention is a great song. Great choice Rob Squad! Glad you liked it.

You should check out Jane Weidland's solo song "Rush Hour". People don't give Jane enough credit for her voice and contribution to the band but she is talented.
I belive that jane Weidland wrote most of the Go Go's better known songs.
Some in the band wanted all songs to be credited to the band but Jane didn't want to divide the royalties that she was earning.
She supposedly told the others that they needed to write better songs.
Jane is and will forever be my favorite Go Go. But I love them all and Belinda is so iconic.
The great Andy Taylor of Duran Duran plays the guitar solo on this song. He released his first solo album, Thunder, around this time. A real lost classic of the 80s. You guys should check out some of his solo work, "I Might Lie," "Life Goes On," "Thunder." Every song on the album is a banger.

Andy Taylor, Duran Duran's original guitarist, is the lead guitarist in this and he was so underrated, I LOVED his playing, especially in he and John's band Power Station.
Her Circle in the Sand tour was my first concert at age 12. I got to go back stage to meet her. She was very nice & autographed my ticket & program.
This would have been the first single from the Go-Go's fourth album, but sadly the band broke up before they could get there. And as far as crushes go Belinda was definitely right up there, but in the late '70s and early '80s there were so many beautiful women making great music - Linda Ronstadt, Stevie Nicks, Olivia Newton-John, Debbie Harry, Susanna Hoffs, the ladies from ABBA, Donna Summer - what a time it was.

Belinda Carlisle rocks with that vibrato voice of hers. "I Get Weak" is a song that really shows her vibrato off. "Circles in the Sand" is more of a love song that also became a hit video on VH1 and MTV back when I was in middle school.
