- Transformers Five Faces of Darkness introduced the Predacons, a team of ruthless Decepticons who became beasts and merged into Predaking. During the Power of the Primes line, Hasbro put out the Titan Class Predaking set. Captain Kyle reviews it out to see if it’s worth grabbing for yourself.
Predaking is comprised of Divebomb, Rampage, Headstrong, Tantrum, and the leader, Razorclaw. Though with this set they have renamed Tantrum to Torox. Which sounds like a laundry detergent. The original set was sold separately and was the largest G1 combiner. Now we have a gift set of all five Predacons in the Power of the Primes line. Captain Kyle checks them out to see how they improved on one of the best combiners ever.

In my opinion, still the best titan class figure ever made, but he'd be way better with paint instead of stickers.
Sure hope this set is reissued like how Devastatator and Fortress Maximus was in 3-4 years time.
slag was more of a change made for uk/eu sensibilities, it's a rude slang term aimed at women in the uk so makes sense to tweak it...though honestly it's kind of a dumb thing to do really given how little anyone will care.

They changed the name Slag, but apparently these days, the name Shart is acceptable!
I own this & the Weijiang KO. WJ made some design improvements overall but also uses a sort of lousy quality plastic so it doesn't really feel better. WJ also shrank the 5mm pegs to 3.5mm for some weird reason & also did a lot of subtle detail remolding, which means the Toyhax stickers don't really fit. It also has its own stickers which do not copy the official sheet. Some copies shipped with 5 weapons that fit into a big sword but the smaller pegs make it easier to break them when assembling or disassembling it. The Divebomb guns are wide blunderbuss cannons & while the other 2 guns being bigger is more impressive in Predaking mode, it attaches by that thin peg. Oh and the DNA kit doesn't really work thanks to all the redesigns.
I opted to use the WJ Razorclaw with the 4 official limbs- WJ has a larger mane for combined mode & Razorclaw will fit in the slot normally, with the DNA side fillers being the only parts that still fit properly on WJ.
Thanks for the detailed breakdown. I remember when WJ did their version, I was expecting them to OS it like they've done with other gesalts, but then found out it was only _"slightly"_ OS'd to a not significantly recoginizable degree in combined mode. Nice to read about the nuanced differences.
This comparable size to UW/CW devy is what HasTak should've done with other combiners, instead of making them significantly smaller. As much of an improvement the recent Menasor was/is, I was disappointed that it didn't come close to the 17"-18" height. And since WJ was basically shut down for dipping their toe into ironman (the mouse dont play) the writing was on the wall that the influx of OSKOing would also die down.

The stickers really do a lot of work for this set. Especially the wings.
I have this set and it is probably my favourite titan that I own, just the presence and articulation of the titan itself is great
I loved the hasbro combiners... but they were sooo expensive here so I missed out... but this video was super and loved how predaking looks...
Now you need to get the DNA upgrade kit for him, better bigger wings, hands, and he needs his sword.
I was going trough my storage unit and found my sealed SDCC Thone of the Primes and was thinking about opening it because I was sure I had all the prime masters. I pulled a ziplock of them from out of a tub and started removing them from their pretender shells and put them on the back of the throne's box. This is when I discovered I was missing Onyx Prime. This was imposible, I knew I had bought them all, but nope. I skipped Predaking. Now I'm sad. gonna have to get this guy or sell the whole damn incomplete set

Yes, one of the first Reprolabels/ToyHax sets I picked up due to the relatively poor quality of the stickers. I can sort of get the name Torox, as a bull or oxen

These figures look like what I would think a knockoff version would look like. Then seeing the actual KO version and they look spectacular to
16:27 no dude, it’s just as posable as the Legacy Menasor. If not more so. Predaking’s fists open and close. Menasor’s do not.

The name change for Tantrum is probably trademark issues (the original TM ran out forever ago, and unlike certain cases, they couldn't cheat with "Decepticon Tantrum" or "Predacon Tantrum" or that sorta thing.
This set was badly designed and badly handled. Like most other Combiners, Razorclaw should be larger. But they ain't do that, they went for Voyagers across the board, relocating the now extra thicc Predaking thighs & hips to being fugly additions to the leg critters instead of Razorclaw's legs doing the job, among other things. If they thought doin' the FoC Bruticus treatment but bigger was the only way, they should've taken notes from MMC and their Feral Rex set (those are similarly sized AND STILL COMBINE PROPERLY). I went with the Jinbao OSKO of MMC Feral Rex, and haven't looked back.

Tantrum was taken by Takara at the time of the power of the Primes era. Correct me if I am wrong but that is what I believe I heard at one time.

Too bulky. I think i prefer third party.
I have this Predaking and the DNA upgrades that go along with it to dramatically improve the wings and also a combining sword, although the smaller individual sword portions aren't the best looking weapons, it's MORE THAN HASBRO GAVE US, lol.
That said, I also have the 1:1 KO Predaking that WeiJiang did, which is a pretty nice option if you want a better looking Predaking without needing the DNA upgrades to achieve a similar look... Basically, the KO version is what we should have gotten from Hasbro, without needing 3rd Party upgrades to fix their $#!t, like usual... the separate WJ Skysword is definitely better than the DNA version, but again, at least DNA provided some "blade" weapons, and a hammer (?).
I also have the OS KO Jinbao Feral Rex, aka Predaking, as well, which can also be a 6 combiner, depending upon how you choose to go with it... I stick with the original 5 figures and the extra character is just a bonus Decepticon Predacon... I did manage to get the additional upgrades and replacement parts to improve on the KO figures and combined mode.
There are definitely things that i like and dislike about all of these versions, but I love all of them about the same... having 3 versions allows me to display a combined set, a bot mode set, and an alt mode set if I want, and if I have the room needed for that...
