      I’ve beaten DS3 and beaten NG+4 on Elden Ring and tbh, I dislike the series as much as Jeremy does for the same reasons. It’s the kind of game where i just want to finish for the sake of not having an unfinished game on the back of my mind, not because I’m actually having fun at any point. Once this Elden Ring DLC comes out in june(?) and I’ve finished that, I seriously doubt im ever playing another souls/souls-like.
      He’s cruising through the game way faster than I did, even with platy helping guide him it’s extremely impressive.

    • @JurrassicGamer
      @JurrassicGamer Před 2 měsíci

      @@carmandirda I actually enjoyed elden ring for the most part. At no point did I ever feel stuck without the ability to progress, because at any given point in the game you can leave and go do something else just as important/useful. At no point did I ever feel the run to fight a boss was as excruciating as the other DS games can be, there’s sites of grace EVERYWHERE. And at no point did I ever feel I needed to grind heavily and overlevel to beat a particular boss. It’s a much more accessible and open game in general.
      Beyond that? I’ve already got elden ring 100%’d and I might as well finish it off with the DLC (I fully expect the DLC to be on par difficulty-wise with the rest of the series, and I’m okay with that)

      I mean it sucks that he thinks platy's being sarcastic every time he compliments him lol, but it's insane watching his skill level increase. He got so smart with his dodge rolls and attacks. There are three types of people. 1: People who fail and give up. 2: People who persevere through failure and come out with joy and 3: People who persevere and come out with hate. 2's are grateful for the overcoming the experience and the pride and elation that comes from their success. 3's are grateful for simply overcoming the experience...and the pride and joy that's it's over and will never have to experience it again.
    What's interesting is that 3's understand 2's but 2's find it odd that 3's don't share their experience. Jeremy and Ray are definitely 3's. Nevertheless everyone enjoys the fact that they go through the game anyway, either way it it's fun for the watchers and we do appreciate the unfortunate torture that comes along with it.

    • @Ryoku1
      @Ryoku1 Před 2 měsíci +5

      As a 1, I find 2s frustratingly annoying because they refuse to let 1s and 3s have fun our way (at least the loud ones do). Asking for an easy mode doesn't rob 2s of their challenge. It just gives 1s and 3s more room to enjoy the game.
      I'm going to get off my soap box before I go on a rant. TLDR, I hate Elden Souls partially because of the game itself but mostly because of the gatekeeping fan boys.

    Funnily enough, I think Jeremy's hatred of Dark Souls is part of why he's so good at it. Most people who love the game have all sorts of emotional highs and lows. They're doing well, they get excited, they get sloppy. They're doing poorly, they get frustrated, they get sloppy. i saw him bring this up in another video, but the reason he likes binding of isaac is because theres luck and rng to it, as well as unlocking things to make runs easier. he said something along the lines of 'i dont like games like this because if you fail it's solely because you messed up and youre not good enough and im already depressed so i dont need that in my life' and i wholly agree with him

      @@07flaughyeah they're definitely not the same game especially when Binding of issac mobs can be hit from any direction and the damage is just as effective while Dark Souls has directional hit boxes that adds another level of complexity. They both have luck, rng, and the ability to get more items to make the game easier, but the 3 dimensional aspect is why you can't compare games like Cuphead or Hollow Knight to Elden Ring in terms of difficulty despite being very similar in terms of gameplay of "die till u make it" sort of games.

    It's always a pleasure watching someone's first playthroughs. Most people just clear the bars of what is and isn't difficult very differently in these sorts of games that's interesting to see. What's one man's "oh it's this there" is another man's "wait, you seen that and I didn't". For example, my playthrough I did a strength build and seen blue sorcery and very witch looking robes of the sage, and I shouted "nerd" and didn't let up with wailing on him for a straightforward fight. I seen people not immediately understand the hue difference and struggle. Quite a few people also struggle to piece together Yhorm's fight. Most players in general know mainly playing with only dodging and hitting, but apparently, shields are viable. And because you have the freedom to how you manipulate your build and interact with many many people and things, there's often things people haven't seen before like various bosses parried or riposted.

    I'm someone who avoided the souls games for quite a while because of the vocal, more _mean_ sides of their communities, but 3 was the first one I finally hopped on. I never finished it, but it took far longer than I expected to reach the point where the fights weren't worth the catharsis of success for me anymore, so I feel ya on not jiving with the repetition and being pummeled into the dirt over time. For me, Elden Ring is the entry that approached the things I liked about the game in ways that dodged the things I didn't. Boss or enemies being a massive pain in the keister? I could go elsewhere, come back stronger, and power-fantasy my way through. Died to a boss at the end of a long dungeon? Stake of Marika means the run-back is all of about 5 seconds! Still has plenty of points that knock you down a few pegs and kick you a few times for good measure, but I think its approach to personal expression and variety of places to go at any one time helped a lot. Oh and the slightly seamless co-op since it's not really seamless locking you into the area you summon someone in or until you beat a big boss which is honestly the same for dark souls just the areas aren't as big and there is less small "bosses"

The only people that care about specific level caps are the pvpers. Most casual enjoyers just level as they see fit. In Jeremy's case he's not a fan of how hard the game is, so to enjoy the game to its fullest in his own way, leveling would probably be the best option.

    It’s a 7+ hour video, I should be allowed to comment a second time, a lots happened.
    1.) Really appreciate Platy’s dedication to trying his best to keep Jeremy’s spirits up and 2.) I respect his blinding devotion to the game which clearly fails to inspire JD at every turn… seems to kinda agitate more than excite at times.
    3.) While I wish Jeremy was interested and involved in the game just like I am in watching him play it, I’m forced to think back to the first time I played D2 and how much it enraged my teenage self, and I remember how absolutely annoying it was when a particular friend would only ever rant and rave about how good and not difficult FromSoftware games were😅
    *Some things are doomed to fail. Gonna make a twitch account just to sub to DooleyNotedGaming to pad his sub count as payment for suffering this ordeal

    So one of the big things with dark souls is that it helps establish a sense of self-efficacy in the idea of overcoming challenges after they beat the ever living shit out of you. It ironically is actually good for a person's mental health because it is so merciless and brutal in a way that forces you to grow. It isn't necessarily that the game itself is hard but that it lacks the same sort of mercy or set of rules that other games might follow, such as easier difficulties, set rules for how AI or other mechanics might work, short grinds for high rewards and much more. It does this while also provoking the player to complete the challenge it presents and pushing them to keep going. I hate the phrase "Get good" especially since there are assholes in the souls game community that love to be pretentious dicks and throw it around, but it is unironically an accurate statement for souls games. There's still Meta's, extreme grinding, and secret tricks for certain bosses and such, but in the end you still have to actually grow as a player and learn while adapting if you want to overcome and finish the game, because the game itself will not let you win. All this being said, these games simply are not for everyone. I absolutely love from software games and I wish I had IRL friends that liked them, but I know that these aren't the kinds of games they would like so I don't push it onto them. It's perfectly okay if Jeremy didn't like playing them or even hated them, not everyone is going to enjoy or have the same opinion on the same game.
    Also odd choice for platy to have him take on DS3 as his first from software game of all games, considering how much of it is a nostalgia trip of DS1. DS2 definitely would have been worse for someone's introduction to from software but Elden ring or dark souls 1 probably would have been better as introductory games. I also feel like Jeremy probably would have been more into the aesthetics and story of bloodborne out of all possible games.

      I think (could be wrong) that jersey is the one that said 3...
      Basically the idea that he has the best QoL advancements form the games.
      I doubt jermy would like bloodborn honestly he hated all the dodging and bloodborne is way more of a get hit once your dead
      Combat is faster which is something he didn't like when most bosses got faster
      End of day there isn't a souls game Jeremy is gonna like. He doesn't like hit the same thing 10x times till you beat it.

    • @gun506
      @gun506 Před 2 měsíci +1

      @shawnbelcher7135 Yeah, I wasn't saying that he would like bloodborne overall, I'm certain he wouldn't like any from software game. I was just saying that he would be more intrigued by the aesthetics and story of it compared to DS3, which has some of its value come from if you already played DS1. I can agree it has better QoL than DS1 and definitely DS2, but again, it's just an odd one to jump into as an introductory game due to its connection to 1.

      @@gun506 but as seen Jeremy didn't care at all about story. All these games require you to read and pay attention to the story to enjoy it.
      20 mins in Jeremy was done with that
      He also DID like designs of the bosses and the aesthetic.
      DA 3 was the beat becuse it was the most likely one for him to get the futhereat. Now we know even if he beat the game he wouldn't like it.

      @@shawnbelcher7135 Again and sorry if this comes off as rude or hostile, but I feel like I'm repeating myself here. I was never saying that he would actually like it or that he should go play it instead. I never said that he didn't like the aesthetics of DS3, and I even agreed that DS3 has the best QoL optimization of the souls games and bloodborne. I was simply stating that I think he would have been more intrigued by the setting and themes compared to DS3. By "story" I meant that disregarding the more Indepth lore you have to read through, I think Jeremy would have at least thought the whole hunters hunting beast theme it has would have been cool. I never said that he didn't like the aesthetics of DS3 and I never said he would actually like any of the souls games. I never said that DS3 was a terrible pick or had terrible controls, just that it was an odd one because of it picking up in a story that was already being told.

      Jeremy said in this video "I don't care about story. The redoing boss fights over and over ruins story for me" this applies to blood borne
      It's not that he didn't like the story. It's the gameplay loop which with share.
      I get what you're saying, but Jeremy made it clear that no. It wouldn't.
      As soon as he faces a boss he can't beat and has to repeat he no longer cares about the story
      So it wouldn't help him

He complains about this game and yet he played so much Binding of Isaac and its the exact same thing. Just muscle memory and timing while Isaac is all pure RNG on whether or not you get something good while DS is getting gud with whatever you can get your hands on from loot.

    While a visually pleasing game to watch, I completely feel Jeremy's hatred for playing it. Needing to kill every mob again and again for EVERY death between bonfire checkpoints, including boss fight replays, is as nightmarish to deal with as the designs of all these monsters. I've never seen gameplay of Dark Souls before watching these streams (and I appreciate the polar opposites of Platy and Jeremy's opinions over it), so while it's cool to see the absolute atrocities that the designers made for bosses (Oh, lord in Heaven, this thing at 6:28:30 is horrendous), I'm siding with Jeremy on frustration level: this game looks like Hell if you don't love getting beaten to death by literally everything all the time.
    Jeremy, if you happen to read this, you deserve a wonderful break for as long as you need. Not hearing you laugh or make wise-cracking jokes during this entire play through is disheartening, so rest up and play something you love again when you're ready.
