For how much Jeremy despises this game, rightfully so given circumstances, he is really good. Like, intuitively good at the boss gameplay. I know a bit of it can be boiled down to fight or flight, with flight not being an option here, but the man’s bright and quick witted with an keen eye for some mechanics that flew over the heads of A LOT of streamers during their first run throughs… and most of them had also already played previous Souls games.
Definitely never pick this game back up again in service of your overall health and well-being, but mad props for being a natural. The man overcame boss hurdles sub 30 minutes that some folk take entire streams to complete.

  • @cgull1234

First off, congratulations to Jeremy for persevering through and finishing Dark Souls III's base game! That''s kind of the whole Dark Souls thing, as long as you are still determined to overcome the next obstacle you won't go hollow.
While I feel bad for Jeremy being forced to play a genre of game he doesn't enjoy I feel devastated for Platy. I feel like most souls fans would love to forget everything about their favorite Fromsoft game and experience it again for the first time. Platy just wanted to help Jeremy with his first experience of Dark Souls III and honestly he did an absolutely fantastic job of coaching while still allowing Jeremy the freedom to play how he wanted. Yet throughout the entire stream people were treating Platy as if he was some kind of antagonist, especially near the end where Jeremy was just beyond frustrated with Souls of Cinder.
I just can't believe that during the final boss fight Jeremy straight up told Play that he couldn't wait to kill Cinder just so he could Alt+F4 the game and uninstall it. Imagine spending 20 hours with someone sharing something you genuinely enjoy with them and the entire time thy just keep telling you they can't wait until the experience is over so you never have to suffer through it again, As someone who has been on the receiving end of being bullied for my hobbies, this is the exact shit that taught me to never share anything I enjoy with other people ever again.
Platy, if you are reading this pleas know that I, and I am sure many others, appreciate everything you did to help Jeremy get through this. I genuinely have no idea how far Jeremy would have gotten if not for your help in keeping him moving in the right direction. Your energy and excitement at the end of the stream were outstanding!

    • @Obahar
      @Obahar Před 2 měsíci +9

I think at a point it ended up with Jeremy being petty and grouchy just for the sake of it, as if he was afraid to admit he was having even a modicum of fun with it, for the bit. The last half of this video in particular was just nothing but constant and unenjoyable-to-watch vitriol. He went into it knowing he'd hate it, and he reaffirmed it whenever he could and even unfairly so in some cases.
I remember Jeremy spoke ill of people who acted like that in the past, but I guess it's okay when he does it whilst also getting paid by fans in an attempt to support and cheer him on throughout? (This coming from someone who also finds the Dark Souls games pretty unenjoyable and boringly frustrating)
I watched this series mainly because I know Jeremy is a pretty competent gamer when he focuses down, and was curious as to how well he'd do at this, as well as hoping to enjoy the dialogue between him and Platy. But I think the thought/risk of losing progress is definitely a pain point for him, as shown similarly in the MC server where an inconvenient endgame death basically had him lose all interest in playing further.
I've tried to be the Platy before too, in introducing friends to games that I really enjoy. And I would have 100% given up and said "let's play something else" pretty early on after all that resistance he kept getting, because it really sucks to have to hear somebody badmouth a thing you enjoy over and over again. So props to him for sure, for staying positive throughout it all and even throwing out those chunks of lore to the viewers who were otherwise just there to be a punching bag.

I understand where you're coming from, but I get the feeling that Platy knew this was possible before the first stream ever started and definitely after they had begun. Maybe not to the degree that it got at points, but he definitely knew Jeremy would rage and probably just hoped it'd get better, especially when in his eyes, he was doing so well. Shame it's just not the type of game Jeremy can enjoy regardless of his naturally high skill level. Some things genuinely are just not for everyone. Jeremy can't seem to comprehend how anyone finds this enjoyable, but for me, I rarely feel upset when playing these games, but unlike him, when I do, I can turn it off for a while. He couldn't do that, which just made it all so much worse.

So question. How is someone's dislike of this series any less valid than someone's enjoyment of it? Like yes it sucks to hear someone shit on something you love, but it ALSO sucks to be miserable and have a whole bunch of people shouting "why aren't you having fun?" at you.

I thought of the best analogy for this experience. Giving jeremy the sub goal to suffer through this game, the Dark Souls fans thinking Jetemy would enjoy it.
Is completely identical to that one shitty guard from the green mile that intentionally didnt soak the sponge with water during that electric chair execution just to see what would happen.

The analogy of a child being excited to see Santa giving them a present only to go, "Never mind," and put it back into the sack, and then have the parents think their child will be excited to see Santa again next year is pretty darn good to describe the anguish of ALMOST beating a boss and missing it by one swing. That last boss fight was pure agony. Finally, Jeremy is free, and I couldn't be happier to know that he's free of this game forever.

Often blowing out of proportion is that the player has to do it alone by the "love the struggle" crowd. I did it because I want to be able to. But the game is viable to do more provided assistant figures from the story for doing their chores, or co-op with a friend and plan strategies together for more of an adventure kind of life. Regardless, congrats on beating the game! If you were to play the other Souls games, I advise against 1. Your build strength is stronger and more varied with cool options in 2, plus most bosses aren't considered as difficult although regular enemies get more interesting behaviors and placements.

Like, he has the slab, he just had to do a bit of exploring to get enough chunks to reach +9. they're everywhere in lothric castle. I also think Jeremy's hatred for dark souls is nearly toxic by the end of the stream and truly detrimental to getting any enjoyment out of watching the stream. But that's a different problem.

I usually love watching people play Dark Souls and I love both Jeremy and Platy so much, but I just couldn't enjoy this series. One of the reasons I like watching first plays of DS games is because the player is interested in and wants to play the game. I only was able to finish part one because it's so obvious that Jeremy wasn't enjoying himself and a content creators personal experience with a game is a massive part of my enjoyment. I can watch a person fail the same boss for literal days if they're having fun and wanting to do it, but even though Jeremy practically speed ran DS3 his very apparent dislike for it really soured my ability to enjoy it.

Jeremy legit went from taking an hour and a half from the start of the game to getting the Uchigatana, to wiping fields clean of enemies in just a few hours. I felt the same way about Souls games back in DS1, played it enough to get out of Firelink, died 30 times to the wall demon, and didn't play them again until Bloodborne came out because they were so frustratingly difficult that it didn't feel "fun". Then I learned that there's something about the struggle, and the feeling you get when you just keep going until it's done.

In the interest of Jeremy's enjoyment..Platy REALLY should have told him about (NPC) summons for the bosses. 1v1'ing the boss is a matter of pride for most Souls players, but for introduction players especially who don't share that same mentality and are clearly not enjoying themselves like Jeremy, using summons can make the game FAR less frustrating and might have given him a better experience.

@@HalyconSolace I think Jeremy might've actually enjoyed the game even a little if Platy didn't torture him with no summons, from what I gathered watching it all, the worst things for Jeremy were,
      - Running back through an area to reach a boss
      - Having to have damn near absolute focus during bosses
      - Every death to the same enemy/boss feeling less like progress and more like a waste of time
Summons would've alleviated all those things significantly.

@ 3:42:04 while the comment is slightly off base, the newer GoW games were far closer to DS than the original GoW games. GoW 2016 was clearly inspired by Dark Souls, from the connected world with a center point that branches in separate spots, to the logically created shortcuts, to the boss fights(especially the Valkyries/Berserkers). Jeremy’s reaction to that is massively toxic without seeing the point being made. It’s not a “clone” but it takes a ton of inspiration.
It’s not “souls-like” but being inspired by souls is right there.

Yeah, that was uncalled for. I mean, maybe I'm stupid, but I'd very much like Jeremy to elaborate how he enjoyed GoW but hates this. And he's free to hate on the game, but calling people stupid for enjoying it? Honestly, Jeremy's losing A LOT of my respect for his behavior in this video. I'm really contemplating unsubscribing. I won't because I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt when he's saying he won't ever do this again.

@@BlueEyesRob92 he is one of those the game is hard for the sake of being hard. I think I remember early on he said usually there is a feeling of progression where a level up is a meaningful boost or a new piece of gear makes the old obsolete. It’s not that way in souls. He doesn’t feel like “knowledge of the enemies” and how to approach them is good enough.
In a stream either today or yesterday he was talking about how he doesn’t have the self-esteem for the game and as a result it stresses him out. Which is true it seems. In retrospect, I’m angry on Jeremy’s behalf that Platy just tried to make him enjoy what he likes about these games instead of helping him enjoy it in ways that would actually encourage him. No summons, no magic, nothing that makes the game easier or more social. Just the most elitist version of an already unapproachable game. It is fighting the same pokemon over and over for sometimes hundreds of time to get a worthless pokemon that you will never use. So it is bragging right I guess? Type 2's encounter hardship, push through it, and feel pride at overcoming it. Type 3's encounter hardship, push through it, and feel destroyed that they had to go through it. Jeremy and I both are obviously type 1's. Elden Souls sucks. But this goal his chat bought forced him to pretend to be a type 3. I cannot understand how people defend and enjoy this game. I won't say someone is wrong for liking it, you do you. But the fucking gatekeeping "get gud" bro's make me hate these games. It's actually the exact opposite, the average player in regards to dark souls 3 can't hope to beat the game in less than 24 hours. Jeremy completed the game in roughly 18 to 19 hours and took significantly less time than some of the more challenging bosses that other people spend hours invested to. What seems like he is worse than average, is the just the simple fact that Jeremy strongly dislikes these games and the only reason he is playing is due to a sub goal in the fact that platy is over their assisting him. Otherwise he never would have touched this game but even in regards to his play he did significantly better than the average player. Again the reason to feel so bad or slow is purely from the fact that Jeremy strongly just likes The game and his mood influences how you view the content being played

Platy really ruined ANY chance at getting Jeremy to enjoy Dark Souls by not telling him about Summons, if you love Souls-like games, beating every boss solo at least once is basically a requirement, but if you feel any less than love for these games you should summon and not feel bad about that, and even then, nobody should be made fun of for summoning, after all, what would be the point of jolly co-operation. Any Elitist that says you should never summon is just toxic and gate-keeping, instead, share the love that many can have for this series.

    • @conradmallien5075

The problems with summons is you have to spend an ember every time and with Jeremy basically speed running the game, his inventory would have been limited. Second, being embered up allows for invaders, both NPC and PVP. Lastly, most summons only show up if you do boss fights at certain times, after/before certain events, and if certain NPCs are alive or dead. The headache alone of balancing those 3 just to make a few fights easier probably would have pushed Jeremy over the edge.

Even moments he thought were cool, he only admitted so out of spite.
