    Your trash collection people must be nice. Ours see so much as a misalignment of the bins by the kerb and they don't bother to empty them. Yesterday they just randomly decided to skip a bunch of bins in my street.

    Project turned out great. Really jealous of the assembly table. Just a thought, put your enclosure on patio pavers. It will last even longer when it’s not on the wet grass and mud

    Looks great. Very functional. I need one of these soon as we have bears in the neighborhood that keep getting into garbage cans.

    Bear Mountain Builds : "I am also pre-drilling a clearence hole through the small pieces of cedar to prevent my quarter by 2-inch lag screws from splitting them"
    small pieces of cedar at 20:45 " for real bro ? " xD
    I am normally not noticing these kind of things but i am very interested in the build (i am soon building one for my self so i gather ideas....) so thats why it cought my attention.
    Other than that, i really life the simplisity/utilitarianistic nature and subtle design.

    Nice design. You will probably want to add some lift struts to that top lid to keep it open while putting your trash in the cans.

      I was originally going to do that, but was under a time crunch to get it done so I decided to axe the idea

    I’ve never heard of having to leave your cans by the road. Mine are by the house and I take them to the road on garbage day. If I had the space I would love a build like this to hide the can but I don’t have the room. It’s a beautiful build though.

    how did you know the gusset would lower the strength of the door to where u decided to take them out? Also, would you have needed to put a bracing under the floor of the home so the weight of the trash doesn't deform it? I am asking because I am still relatively new to woodworking design.

    • @BearMountainBuilds
      @BearMountainBuilds  Před měsícem +1

      It's better to have the hinges as far apart as possible to best handle the torque from the weight of the door. The gussets just got in the way of the hinges. You could add an additional frame brace down the middle of the floor slats and you wouldn't need to worry about any damage. My garbage cans aren't very large so I wasn't worried about needing extra strength, but it's not a bad idea to make it more robust

    Where you live, they don’t have the robotic arm trash trucks? The bin is very nice, but won’t the bottom be ruined with rain and snow?

    • @BearMountainBuilds
      @BearMountainBuilds  Před měsícem +1

      It's a bit more rural and the garbage men just grab the bins and toss them in

  • @RichyN25
    @RichyN25 Před měsícem +1

    Sadly this won't work here in Texas, our garbage cans are large 50 gallon cans on wheels, we usually roll them to the curb on trash day and then roll them back down the driveway when done. Great design though!

      The trucks that dump our bins don't have the "remove the bin from the enclosure" function either. Sort of archaic having people that dump your trash.

      Richy and Stevenbrowningsr, we have similar issues here, but my wife wants the garbage can to be hidden when at the house and this style is what she wants, so I’m modifying the design to fit the large wheely bins we have.

      @@The50Workshop yeah I can see it modified for sure, would have to be a lot bigger to fit our giant wheeled cans

    I hope your trash collector knows where those bins are or they will just drive past.
    In our country you pull your bins to outside your gate and leave them there on the pavement, when the truck pulls up they pull the bin to the truck and that tips the bin into the truck and it's emptied, the trouble is if that bin is too heavy to pull they leave it there until the next fortnight, too heavy? it's not them that tips it into the truck for christ sake.
    When i was a kid the bin men as we called them would come into your back garden (you have to remember to unlock the back gate) grab you metal bin, sling it over his shoulder and off to the truck he went, then he tipped it into the back of the truck and then went back to your garden, put the bin down, put the lid back on it then out the gate and closed it behind, those were the days no moaning that the bin is too heavy and they emptied the bin every week not every two weeks as it is now.
    Sorry for the long comment, take care.

      Depends on where you are in the state. If you're in/near the city you can just bring the garbage can to the street, but in more rural areas it's up to what the garbage company wants.
