Bro same. Right now I’m using a build that uses SS, Soul twister, soul eater, quick slash, and dash master. For bosses that are relatively stationary, they will be gone within 15-30 seconds it’s pretty crazy. And the combos you can do are also pretty ridiculous. For example one that I like to do a lot is I hit the boss twice, dash, then descending dark, another two swings and then finally dashing again. Easiest combo to do is simply dash then shade soul. If you want I can make a list of combos herw

Nailmaster's Glory is actually insane. With just a single charm notch, it can basically replace other nail charms. Nail Arts have more range than a nail with Mark of Pride and they don't knock you back. Nail Arts are also very flexible and have a surprisingly large hitbox. You can hit enemies above you with Great Slash, which trivializes flying enemies while Dash Slash can be used to poke enemies from a great distance. Cyclone Slash is useful to deal damage while still maintaining some degree of mobility to step out of some attacks.
My preferred build is a high mobility Nail Arts focused build with Nailmaster's Glory, Dashmaster, Sprintmaster, and Sharp Shadow. Being able to immediately dash again after dashing through a charging enemy with Sharp Shadow allows you to retaliate with a Dash Slash in relative safety. The movement speed boost you get from Dashmaster and Sprintmaster helps you position yourself out of danger to save Sharp Shadow to deal damage. This is an incredibly fun and flexible build that only cost 6 notches, giving you 5 notches to use as you see fit. I usually throw in Quick Focus/Shaman Stone and Spell Twister for an extremely potent burst build capable of staggering some bosses quickly.

    • @warriordinag3921
      @warriordinag3921 Před 2 lety +5

I reciprocate this, nailmaster’s is probably the best charm in the game. Allowing you to use cyclone basically whenever you want already puts it at quick slash strength level of continued dps, but great slash/dash slash also makes it great against bosses with few attack opportunities, so it gets the best of both worlds. It’s also the best charm to pair with spells and minions so it tends to be great at speedrunning or toughing out a prolonged fight. You can literally equip it with shaman stone, flukenest, spell twister and soul catcher at once and go full destruction mode on EVERYTHING.
Although I never used it like that; I always prefer sharp shadow and minions/dreamshield with it.
It even works well with heavy blow to make radiant markoth easier.

SHARP SHADOW BAYBEEEE I always have it on me (except in fog canyon....)
Also I find it weird that some people look down on charms because they provide some cheap protection. I’ll take cheap protection, lol. Grubsong is part of my usual charm set, despite the fact that I can dodge attacks in a lot of fights, including NKG, whom I enjoy fighting for fun. When I do get hit, I get some soul! I won’t say no to that. It’s just part of my playstyle, I usually don’t like tanking bosses. I like playing it safe and being on as close to full health as possible at all times. (Silksong is gonna make me so anxious with its healing mechanics e_e) Weird that some people look down on that. Sounds kind of elitist.

I love Sharp Shadow. I remember the first time I put it on after I got it and I've never taken it off since then. It's just, such a good charm. It doesn't even really muck with platforming segments that much, I can think of exactly one place, right before Traitor Lord, but that's it. It, Soul Catcher and Shaman Stone are probably the charms that I get the most use out of.

As someone who started the game and used pretty much only one charms and used steady charm constantly, it’s amazing and I legitimately can’t play without it now, same for Grubsong, and Longnail. Trust me Longnail + Steady Body has made me and Ariel threat and Grub Song is just OP because comboing it with firing spirits by purposely getting hit can end a boss fight quickly. Once I got used to the map I removed Compass and Thorns of Agony and added Soul Twister.

Well, choosing between Carefree melody and Grimmchild you quickly realise, that there's actually no choice. You choose CM every damn time because it's just that good. It's an insurance from mistake. Not once or twice it saved my butt in pantheons when I was playing like crap and just when I thought that I was done, it took me out of the jaws of defeat, giving me much needed chance. And if boss does double damage, CM usefulness doubles just as well. I don't really wear it for regular travel across the map, but for pantheons it's the first charm that gets equiped.

The build that I use for basically everything now is:
    Steady Body
    Dashmaster
    Sprintmaster
    Sharp Shadow
    Nailmaster's Glory
    Dream Wielder
    Dreamshield

I always use sharp shadow during pantheons and fighting bosses, makes hive knight more fun to play against, gives a safe option for attacking and allows you to go through slighty bigger bossed because of the dash length. I wouldn't recommend it for plat forming though, the platforming was not made for sharp shadow's dash length and can lead to unnecessary damage

Nailmaster's Glory was my STAR during my hollow knight playthrough even through most of the pantheons so I was always SO shocked whenever people would call it or the nail arts trash or just completely forget about them.
I think it's primarily because when you get it and when you get the nail arts, you're already STEEPED in spell builds and soul and quick slash so you see this extra form of burst and you go "I could do that, or shoot 3 spells off instantly."
But I really loved the 'attack between attacks' playstyle that the charm provided and it felt SO satisfying to hit bosses like NKGrimm and Zote while they weren't even in any of their 'official' openings

  • @RadishTheSpringChild

For Hollow Knight being my first metroidvania game I appreciate a charm like Grubsong. I am very much a skiddish player who gets hit more times than I'd like to admit and it's nice to get something that can heal me or help me get off a spell because of my clumsiness. I also like having the Weaversong charm on a lot and having those two paired together has definitely gotten me the heals I needed. I can understand why it's preferred as training wheels as opposed to other charms, but sometimes players who aren't going to be as good as other players can appreciate keeping those training wheels on. ^^
But it is nice to see you broadening your opinion and seeing what the charms can offer, even if you're not the biggest fan of them or don't think they are as good as others. As well as whenever I watch you you are always there to give me a good laugh so that's always a bonus! Another amazing list video, even we don't always agree on charms haha

I think you forgot about grubsong’s synergy with weaversong. It makes the weaverlings collect soul for you, so it’s basically a better version of kingsoul for only three charm notches, and with passive damage to enemies as well. Not to mention how it’s an excuse to keep sprintmaster on. For just 4 charm notches you’ve got an all purpose synergy, with plenty of room for spell charms. So yeah, grubsong is okay, but it makes weaversong really good, and that’s what I like about it.
