    This is "online mathematical cash-game analysis"... of a freezeout live-play event, against a guy who isn't keeping track of your ranges, frequencies or anything remotely related to GTO. This strikes me as classic over-thinking. In chess, this would be like analyzing an amateur online bullet game with a 500 page novel written by Hikaru Nakamura.

    • @joshuag6057
      @joshuag6057 Před 3 lety +7

      Yep even the very first J10 hand, Daniel says Phil was steaming and gets sticky when he’s tilted. Also says Phil is betting his weak pairs in the turn far too often. Soooo if he often has a pair and isn’t folding, doesn’t that make giving him 3-1 on the river absolutely awful??

      So can someone explain HAND #4 to me a little more? I can see why Phil shoved all in b/c he wanted to avoid a diamond. Let's say Phil just called or did a small reraise and a diamond came on the turn, what is his move suppose to be then? Is he suppose to raise even if the diamond comes on the turn to see what Daniel will do?

      @colintimp1372 Před 3 lety

      You're absolutely right. Over-analyzing may save you 0.5% variance over a million hands; but when your opponent is on the ropes, there may only be a few hands left. Variances will skyrocket, and the analysis means nothing.

      I think this is good though. Its not for people really studying GTO already, but GTO "amateurs " lol. I find it helpful to get used to the concepts and get thinking about them in specific spots, but its not gunna be super useful where I am obviously, but it eventually will. It gets the ball rolling.

    I do think a more polarizing bet on the river of the T4 hand makes more sense in this situation. Solvers are betting big on both your nutted and air hands so if you decide to float with the intention of barreling river I think you need to bet pot to 1.5 pot. And in this case with the sit and go I think it makes even more sense putting Phil all in when if he loses he’s out and loses the sit and go makes it significantly tougher and could likely get him to fold some of his Q hands even.

    • @brianmcgee127
      @brianmcgee127 Před 2 lety +2

      Yep agreed. This comes down to nothing more than underestimating feel and reads, which in poker means alot. You can play totally mathematical all day long, but if that was all that mattered.. Phil would never win. Unless he's the luckiest guy on the planet, which he isnt. I think it comes down to a little jealousy on the cashes and wins he has, and also Phil isnt the most gracious winner and loser.

    I don't agree with the k5 hand. I usually check with my top pair only if the board isn't connecting. If I haven't connected at all on the turn on a board that is connected then I just fold to any hand. I should be betting most of the time with my top pair, so that is how I balance my range. If I had A7 in that position and get raised on the turn after I have checked the flop, I am folding every time because opponent having any card from 8 to K puts in a bad position at the river.

      I think he just misspoke and it should be bet/(bet + pot) or 2000/(2000+4000)= 1/3

    Can someone explain the game theory math he was doing to find out how much he should call for to make it a profitable play ?

      If you and a friend both bet a dollar on something to figure out the percent you need to think your bet wins to take the bet you would do stake/(reward+stake) so 1/(1+1)= 0.5 so 50% so if a pot was 100 and someone bet 40 then you would do 40/180=0.22 so if you bet 40 into a pot of 100 you give the person 88% to call 22% to fold

    JTs: When you have read that he bets all sort of weak to medium strength hands this would be decent spot to raise and represent all the Ax that you most of time probably playing this way as well. Well stack depth is bit awkward I suppose but we can raise to 2.5k and actually put lot of those weak one pair hands into tough spot. Then be ready to fire river decently often having 3/4 pot behind. Call would be better if you assume his range to be polarized into Ax+ (or even two pair+ because theory wise BB should be probe betting A turn very very rarely imo) or semibluff with oesd or fd. In that spot I would call for having decent showdown value with gutshot as support. Most people would not be bluffing with any Kx so we beat most of the semibluff range.
    Also are you raise-folding or raise-calling preflop versus Phil if he shoves? In general raise-folding such high equity hand is not recommended with these stacks and limping would be good option. Though versus very passive opponent raise-folding is reasonable I suppose.
    K5s: Flop and turn are fine. In river I would think about bluff raising. Maybe not good candidate for it. But in general I would tend to use bottom of my range that comes into this spot as there is not that much ways to block straight combos considering how wide HU ranges are.
    ATo: Yeah its absurd move to shove. When I saw that I really wondered if there is any weaker hand to call that is not like AQd type. Maybe 87? Good example of overprotecting hand on scary board.
    K4s: Yeah cant fold this pre. K4o versus this type opponent I would tend to fold. Heh nasty flop spot. If you think he is going to barrel often it would actually be fold on flop imo. Super nitty and exploitative adjustment though but this hand is not going to improve often. Plus even if we improve we are not going to be super happy probably.
    JTo: Super clear call with that stack on turn.

    Daniel I think you are truly an amazing player and very well spoken... But.. there is game theory which is the avenue in which you approach your play with.. He is doing live read play... and playing you.. He has played so flawless when the most likely play is to do as you suggest.. But that is what random players do. . Which is where you made most of your money.. But truly he has a unique skill and understanding.. There is a small luck factor.. Overall he knows the difference between that and the true winning strategy.. He will always win in a tournament setting.. But the factors do not work when real money is involved and not a prize to win...

      This comment makes no sense. Literally every poker pro knows that in the long run over a long trend of hands full game theory optimal wins every time. Why do you think that programs like Solver exist and show how a computer would play the game?

      Either gotta multiply bet size by number of players or learn to eyeball the pot to where you're close enough
