I was thinking, regarding the Heterochromia designs, I'd love it if the eyes are used as a subtle hint whether he is telling truth or is lying, by making him wink (since he always winks anyway).
And then, for crucial moments in trials, he'd lie without closing his eyes, to confuse the player even further

I like it better that you can't tell when he's lying or not. However, I do like his Heterochromia design more. Since his final one looks a little too exaggerated compared to every other character. It could make him look more intimidating if his eyes glowed in different colors at times though.
I have seen headcannons that Kokichi has heterochromia hit wears purple contacts to cover it up
I love this idea so much. It would help enhance the lying part of his character without getting too old too quickly
Also another thing about the beta design I like better is the baggier looking clothing. The bigger clothing gives off a more childish demeanor

At 18:17, the eyepatch could also be a chuunibyou thing? Especially in conjunction with the bandages and sorcery. Feels like that delusion of mystic grandure fits his personality and could reinforce his righteous justification for his murderous behavior. The evil eye under an eyepatch being a common chuuni trope and all.

Honestly? If Spike actually went and put these beta designs into decadence, it might actually sell a few more copies, since it would be a neat idea to have more costumes other than "color variant" or "swimsuits"

Let me tell you, the Tsumugi drink making art, the push up scene, and her general design from the waist down was always “sexy” to me. I loved her character in general. My only thing is hat her long hair made her design a little too bland with the blue on blue, so I’d rather her hair be shorter (which would be good for wigs) or a different color than her outfit.

Similar to Shirogane’s second last design where I want to keep the design but give her Tsumugi’s face and pose but Weeby’s personality
I also REALLY like Maki’s last design, though I kinda want her to wear lighter colours to combat her edge. I also admit I’m not really a fan of the over dramatized pigtails.
I think Maki’s third-last one is actually my ideal design for Tsumugi
And I kinda wish they added cards to her bear parka and Yumeno’s canon face for Himiko’s first design

Fun fact : before I got into the danganronpa fandom, I thought shuichi, kokichi, nagito, rantaro, and korekiyo were girls because they all could pass as a girl.
Shuichi : could be a girl that likes having short hair.
Kokichi : his eyes and hair could pass as a girls.
Nagito : he looks like he has fine eyeliner.
Rantaro : could be a tomboy but could be a girl.
Korekiyo : I mean, look at him. His hair is long and it looks like he has eyeliner on.

I don't get how people have so much trouble with boy vs. Girl characters. I never seen any character above as a "girl" because its usually obvious what they're going for once you look at them.

The Kaeda Beta Design with that hat makes me think we were originally going to have the protagonist swap be from Shuichi to Kaede. It would explain Shuichi's audition tape describing his execution, which would have had more weight to it than it did in the final product.
Maybe next time we'll get an execution for an ultimate detective?

The second kiibo design really reminds me of the Gantz suit
The thing about character design is they start out intentionally over exaggerated so they can see what aspects they like and slowly tone it down. That’s why most of the concept art looks “weird” or used the generic protagonist face at first. They’re just laying the groundwork that they can build on as they find the character. It’s like sculpting, you slap on a chunk of clay and push it all around until you find the image hiding beneath.
Tsumugi frist beta design struck me more ask a teacher who got stuck with a bunch of kids for some reason.
