It would add more to the whole defying tropes thing he has going on, where he looks like your average, obnoxious bad boy gang leader but then actually turns out to be one of the most sympathetic and genuinely nicest guys with a lot of hardships. I feel like it would make him fit the stereotype look more by making him look more intimidating, rude and powerful.

I think Celeste was going to be more sociopathic rather than being nicer because in Leon's beta execution she is smiling when Leon dies whereas in the final game she is looking on in horror
I wouldn't say sociopathic, I'd say more dedicated to her act. I'm fine with both because I think that it also makes sense for her to let her act down when nobody is watching her, but I agree it is interesting how much more dedicated the developers were originally going to make her, if we assume her character is the same
@@thesirensystem Imagine if the DR1 had two trouble making characters, Celeste and Byakuya. Damn, that would have been an awesome. They'd start suspecting Kyoko too so it would be a a nice dynamic between the three of them.

Fun fact- In Distrust, Kyoko was meant to be the mastermind. But later it changed, and it was set that Junko would be the mastermind instead (thus the mastermind-esc drawing for Junko. There was a gap between most of the drawings.)
Also! Leon and Maizuno were killed off first because the staff used them as bases for all the other characters and the staff got sick of them so wanted to get rid of them.

The thing I've wanted for what feels like a long while is a Distrust "remake" (no idea if you can call it a remake if the original game never existed lol), where they flesh out the original beta designs and concepts for a new game. And since this is never going to happen anyways, I'd hope this also would have a very different deaths and story.
Yeah I'd love to play distrust but rewritten and have my choices influence the game. That would be so cool and also I feel like personalities would be a little different, which I'd really enjoy
VLR ended up inheriting the trust/distrust aspect being a major playing part in certain characters dying depending on your choices. It is a Spike Chunksoft game after all.
Or what if Distrust was a "soft reboot" of Danganronpa 1? We already have an official, if non canon reboot when Mukuro didn't die. I guess these designs would still go to waste though :/

3:34 those 'vampire teeth' is actually a snaggletooth. It's recurring design for manga/anime characters. Something to do with mischievousness and playfulness or something.

Some of their designs have Japanese subtitle attached to it. Like the saiyonji sakura one has ‘in her youth’ at the right. Or the suspicious naegi has ‘otaku’ on the right.

Regarding Junko's Beta Design, reminder that she wasn't going to be the mastermind in distrust, she was going to be a victim (at least in the start of developing, I think that before they changed the theme of the game they chose her as the mastermind). Personally, I might prefer her Beta over her actual design, because she looks more innocent.

Re: Asahina's vampire tooth, its actually a pretty fashionable thing in Japan to have long/protruding canine teeth. Its called yaeba and some people actually get surgery to make them more noticeable. Its a pretty moe character design trait lol

I'd say it's more accurate to call Distrust a prototype than a beta, since almost nothing about DR1 resembles Distrust in its current state besides Leon's death, so it almost was a completely different kind of game. The term "beta" is usually reserved for a game that is close to the final product but still has to go through the debugging process.
PS. Thanks for that new browser option. I was getting sick and tired of using Chrome and Firefox.

I believe Byakuya's spiky hair design fit him very well. I think it may be because the one loose hair that covers his left eye. I personally believe it makes his look more intelligent but still snarky.

the fact that mondo's beta hair is literally shaped like a sword, then like a gun. the gun hair looks like it was edited on with a picture.
i wish i could play/see someone play the distrust game, because i love the old school crazy vibes from it and i find it very interesting.
I noticed that when makoto was talking about junko in the first game before he went to hopes peak, junko's bikini beta was on one of the magazines. It was above the one with her hair down and was up close to her, look up diagonally and you'll see junko's bikini beta, well only her stomach and up.
7:09 that design fits chihiro so much better in my opinion! He is the ultimate programmer so I think him wearing comfy clothes makes sense (the cloak kinda looks like a blanket)
I spend lots of time on computers so I know blanket cloaks are GREAT!

I just noticed on the beta design for Mondo, the logo on his shirt looks a lot like the logo on Nagito's shirt. Its a little larger and placed higher on the shirt and by no means exactly like Nagito's, but its very reminiscent.

YEAH your take on Taka and Ishida (awakened / super taka) is exactly how I feel too about it. I love the design but it always makes me really sad because that is literally the last time you see him alive :( I really wish they did a bit more with him, because he felt really fleshed out as a character tbh.
I absolutely love beta toko design so much! My favorite part is that some hair is out of place and the idea of messy is supposed to be like not attractive, but then theirs beta toko and it's like YES

Pretty sure Hagakure and Kyoko were used as the base for Kaito and Kurumi.

Okay so I know danganronpa is old BUT I literally just put this together. The original monokuma design where hes an anatomy doll, could have very well been inspired by corpse party. A character literally gets turned into an anatomy figure but hes still like alive or something, but the exact same look. Half normal half exposing his internals
