It's not only that Mikan's execution made no sense and was very uncomfortable to watch, but even post-execution was really disappointing. • @user-lc7mi1zh2m
      @user-lc7mi1zh2m Před 3 lety +204

Mikan's execution is the most underwhelming one, but it is actually one of the smartest.
All executions have one goal in common besides killing off the characters, but also filling them with despair while doing so.
Leon hates baseball, forced into baseball practice execution,
Mondo craves strength, turns into butter with a kiddy logo,
Celeste wants to die in a special way, but dies of a common car accident.
Junko killed herself with the executions she created herself, she felt excited at first, but got bored in the end anyway.
Teruteru is a chef who is proud of his career, got turned into junk food, and was fried in lava which is too hot for frying.
Peko died believing she killed Fuyuhiko, her one reason to commit murder.
But Mikan? There was literally no way to make her sink into further despair, because she WAS ALREADY IN DESPAIR due to the disease. In fact, she wanted to die, her goal was to meet her beloved Junko.
Thus Monokuma was forced to face a dilemma:
How the hell can he abide the school rules by killing off Mikan, while filling her with despair, when the very thing that gives her hope is death itself?
The answer? The execution we have now.
The main difference between this execution and the other executions is that this execution does not have a final blow, as in we don't get to see the moment the character dies, nor the moment the character was overcome with despair. She was simply kicked out of the death game.
People's reactions to this execution were mainly "That's it?" , which actually doesn't only fit what the players were feeling, but also what Mikan was feeling.
This is what I believe Mikan was feeling during the execution:
(On bed): "Oh yes, I can finally meet my beloved."
(Monokuma trips with the needle): "You are not stabbing me with that? Stop teasing me."
(Monokuma injects the fluid into the giant hand): "Oh yes Oh yes GIMME THE SWEET DEATH I CANT WAIT ALREADY"
(She flies off into space): "Wait... This is it?"
This is the closest Monokuma could get in obeying the school rules, while also filling Mikan with further despair:
      A boring ending.
Kind of like how Shuichi chose to end the entire Danganronpa franchise by picking an end that is so boring, it dissatisfied both parties: the hope side, and the despair side.
Which is probably why Monokuma, rather than doing his signature maniacal laugh, he fell headfirst onto the ground at the very end of the execution, which probably meant even he didn't know what the fuck he could do in this situation.
Mikan was just a pawn for the despair plan from the beginning, and now her clinginess is getting in the way.
      Such despair.

Gonta puts a bunch of emphasis on being a gentleman, so being in a situation where he couldn’t be seen as a proper person would make it seem like all his efforts where to be unrewarded. Hence forth he was killed in a shoot out with Monokuma as the “good meaning” sherif.

Obviously, it's there with Naegi, too, but it's a lot more subtle and Naegi is never aware of it. Kaede's and Gundham's deaths hold the titles of the only ones making me cry. Gundham's got me because of how he reassured his devas before dying-- his last thought was comforting them, and then when he was so convinced he would end up in hell for being a demon, all the spirits of other dead animals came and got him and took him to heaven and I LOST IT. I have such a soft spot for animals and to see them come get him really just tugged at the heartstrings. And with kaede, I was actually spoiled on her dying, I knew she died at some point and that was one of the twists for v3. But I didn't know she died because she was the blackened and I didn't think it would happen so early on, so when they revealed it, my jaw DROPPED. And then when shuichi was really struggling with everything and feeling like he was the one responsible for killing her but also wanting to fulfill her wish, and then when he went to the piano room, I sobbed like a little bitch. Something with the Monokub executions that made me a bit paranoid when I was watching v3 was how they pair up to the killers. Monokid, like Kaede was a musician. Monosuke was very money-minded, which sort of made sense with Kirumi (seeing as her FTEs make it known that she charges a lot and you learn about her status in the trial), but it’s also a subversion of expectations because you think of a maid as being humble. I didn’t make the connection until it was directly revealed, but it was some nice foreshadowing if you spent time with her. The reason why I was so nervous was because my favorite character is and always has been Keebo. The obvious place my mind went to is that he would kill someone and be executed alongside Monodam. It makes sense that Monodam went to Korekiyo, though, as his status as an anthropologist almost makes him view humanity from an outsider’s lens.
(Also on a side note, my favorites in the other two games died in chapter three. The fact that his obvious Monokub pairing died in ch3 really made me feel like the game forgot to kill my favorite off in the third chapter and then just panicked and did it at the end lmao)

But according to other posters who were familiar with the Japanese fandom for Danganronpa back then, nope. :P
It was usually just as easy for most Japanese people who LPed it back on NicoNicoDouga at the time too from what they said, since they're usually at least familiar with the English alphabet. It was always meant to just be a straightforward tutorial case, the language barrier wasn't a thing even pre-translation.

Honestly, I kind of like the idea of Junko's execution.
Like, yeah, I think it would have been cool if she had a unique one, and I definitely think she's crazy enough that she would, too, but I think more than anything that she wouldn't be _able_ to do it.
Because it's easy enough to think of a fitting way for yourself to die, but for Junko, it's different. It's less about what's "fitting" and more about what would cause the most despair. And personally, I don't think Junko could have planned anything more despairing happening to her than having her meticulously-crafted plan, her _years_ of hard work, failing in the end.
So, I think it actually kind of worked for her.
And even further than that, I especially liked that moment at the end with the press hanging above Junko just long enough for her to look up in confusion, because it's not something she expected (for those who haven't read Danganronpa Zero, or who haven't at least heard of it (spoilers, duh), the main protagonist, Ryoko Otonashi, is revealed to be an amnesiac fake identity of Junko, and it's also shown that Junko's actual talent is the Ultimate Analyst. Her analytical skills are what make her able to pull off so many of her feats throughout the series, and how she can always know how to perfectly act to manipulate the people around her. However, everything became too predictable and boring, so she eventually crafted The Tragedy and by extension, the Killing Game, in order to try and put people in a situation to act unpredictable, in order to gain some kind of amusement. But everything ended up going exactly how she'd planned... up until that final trial.
And I feel like those final moments of her execution were like a huge slap in the face. When the press lingered, she probably hadn't expected it. She looked up, looking shocked and confused. Maybe she thought, for a moment, "wait, what's going on? This isn't supposed to happen" only to then turn it around and crush her at the last second, which is probably what she (and the players) expected anyways.
In summary: her execution is much like an onion. It's got some layers, and it's a bit hard to peel those away (with droplets of acidic juice squirting into your eyes 😃), but when you do, you'll see it's a little more complicated than you might've thought upon first impression.

I think I might be able to explain the wild west theme in Gonta's execution, actually. Since Gonta's aspirations were to be a true gentleman in society to show his birth parents that his jungle family weren't just a bunch of filthy animals, the wild west, a place of lawless chaos, debauchery, and ungentlemanly brawls, would be the last place Gonta would ever want to be in.

I feel like they put the LEON thing in for the first trial so new players can get used to the mechanics in a simple way cause the game adds more as it goes on especially in the trails. But I think it also helps get the players used to looking at everything so they know to investigate in a lot of depth especially since in later cases some of the most minuscule differences in background placements and character accounts can lead to solving the cases. Like in both the second and third trails when Mondo mentions the blue tracksuit even tho no one said anything about colour or when celest says we will die like they did even tho the others didn’t know about the second death

For me, when I first watched Korekiyo's execution, it just felt too weird to me. However, there's one detail that most people miss that I think is incredibly fascinating and just shows the dedication put into these executions. If you count the tallies next to Kiyo after the voting, there's one missing. Kiyo didn't vote. Therefore, he got executed twice, both by boiling and with the salt.

One thing I really like about the V3 demo murder is that it happens while everyone is still going about introducing themselves to each other and exploring the facility for the first time.
If you think about it, it's that's a really smart time to kill someone. No one knows anyone, no one knows the layout of the school, everyone is still in shock of being in the death game in the first place, etc. So much confusion and lack of knowledge makes getting away with murder that much easier.

Could gonta's wild west theme supposed to give the feeling of toughness? Since whenever the character is in this setting the normal reaction is that this is the badass standing on his own against the world. I'd say that's similar to how gonta wanted to protect his friends all by himself but couldn't think of anything. That type of strength is further shown by him tanking "bullets" like it's no big deal. I think it's also supposed to show how the bugs he cared about so much were the ones that got him killed, through probably one of the most cruel ways possible that being the fire. So not only is he killed by his most loved hobby, it's killed with him like every other bug. I may be reaching a little but that's how I saw it.

    What about a Design Analysis?
One reason I came up with this is Kokichi's Design where he has the checkered scarf, like a chessboard, it being a very analytical game(studying what move your opponent will/can do) that you need to think and plan before you make another move to trap your opponents king(monokuma).
His clothes in general looks like an insane asylum clothes, gee wonder why.
In his beta design, I can low-key see why the creator didn't take the beta design(as great as it looks) because it didn't show as much of his character as the asylum clothes. His beta design communicated what we already know the first time we see him. That he's childish.

Also Ouma's scarf shows how morally grey character he is, i mean it has black and white colors.

I had started with the Danganronpa anime, which while it does the game’s injustice, was still lots of fun!
The trial I knew immediately who was responsible was the third trial with Sakura. My clues were, there was only one entrance to the game room, the door was locked from the inside with a chair, and the glass that shattered only occurred when Makoto broke it to get in after hearing Aoi scream.

I'M SO GLAD YOU LOVED LEON'S EXECUTION!!!
    Edit:
I watched Teruteru and Peko's trials today just to get into danganronpa drv2! I really didn't know much about drv2, but I realised just how much I loved the trials compared to some that I didn't like as much. In v1 Leon's was kind of boring to start, but in v2, Teruterus was CRAZY! I think Saionji is annoying and rude, but I sometimes laugh at her lines or gasp when she calls Mikan a "sk@nky p!g b1tch" so y'know... I mean she was sad when Mahiru die, but it was really portrayed as "Oh, she's just sensitive and has the maturity of a five year old" rather than "her best/girl friend just died"

I had no idea people didn’t like mondo’s execution, it totally disturbed me as a baby horror teen. More like an unsettling disturbing than a kept me up at night disturbing tho lol. Though I feel like the idea of ppl being turned into food of any kind in general freaked me out a lot then, and I wasn’t affected by teruteru’s execution at all so maybe mondo’s was all it took to like, see and get over it. Big oof for the story it’s based on tho, no idea about the full extent of what happens in it, but I’ll def be checking out the video going over the whole execution ayyyy.
Also I kinda don’t like Korekiyo’s execution, I loved it up until the exorcism part. Showing an actual ghost kinda confirms a supernatural element to the universe of the game and to me kinda erases the impact of the other deaths ig? Like they dead, but kiyo is Dead Dead. My personal headcanon is that maybe they somehow made him feel like he’d died and been exorcised, and just showed it to us how he felt it when maybe he was actually alive up until the end hmmmm. Anyway my fave murder is ibuki’s and my fave execution is kirumi’s. And my all around fave trial is Mahiru’s. :D

Edit: I thought of another execution but this time for Mikan
She gets strapped into a chair and she gets hooked up to a blood draining machine, her blood starts to be removed and she’s injected with a poison that makes her hallucinate and just as the machine taking away her blood is about to kill her Monokuma drives a giant ass needle through her chest killing her
