    Dude, your videos are awesome! Putting the mill on the mountain allowed me to get a 16 turn victory with Nordic last night.
    That'll shut the Polania player up!

    We are currently in the middle of the campaign where both Albion and Togowa are being played. I’m stuck with Nordic for the campaign. My concern is by moving to the village towards Albion it really cripples his game from the start. I want everyone to have fun and if I do that I feel like that’s just mean 🙈. I have had pretty good success at moving towards the village AND food towards Rusviet.
    Also, which player mats are best for Nordic?

    Been thinking about this a lot, and it seems pretty clear. As Nordic in 7p, you simply have to tell Russviet right off the bat that you'll head to the near farm, letting them have the better one with the encounter, and that if they take you out of contention by attacking your farm, then you will do nothing but hamper their chances for first place. Artillery, which looks no better than average in a normal situation where you care about your own power, suddenly appears much better as a kamikaze threat, when combined with Seaworthy's retreat power. You can mess them up really bad once you have no reason to care anymore. I think your best early-mid game bet is to get a rational Russviet player who realizes this.

    I remember another strategy guide video ranked Build as the weakest bottom row action (and Enlist the strongest), but it seems from this and the few games I've done that early Mill can be super strong. Is this mat dependent?

    • @justincantczak
      @justincantczak Před 3 lety

      Build can be really good, but it is highly situational. Mill is only good early, and it can be difficult to spread out enough to place structures in the right place at the right time. Also, some factions just never need to bother with it. Certain factions though, like Nords, can profit from an early mill or Polania from the monument.

    Wouldn't you have an explicit tit-for-tat negotiation with Russviet: "if you take me out of the game on one farm, while you have another, better one, then I will have absolutely no objective all game but to harm you" ?

    So if you start a game as Nordic and you have two neighbors you are pretty much already losing?? How is that balanced?

      Stegmeier Designs cool Games, but balance in general in my pov is not his thing

      The game wasn't designed to be a wordlclass competitive game like chess. However it's done surprisingly well and garnered much respect. Also there is bidding in competitive play so people know what they are getting into. If all your friends at home play super.comoettive scythe then learnt he comp rules and implement

    Hey, where do i download the online game? I have the board game but this just saves so much of setup time.

    would be too difficult to take one of the sought farms with a combat? ( and achieve your first star as a bonus?)

    • @indef2def
      @indef2def Před 4 lety +1

      Hey there, buddy! In my mind, I think that's generally too slow for what you really want, which is to be in the Enlist competition early. As you can see Rain emphasizing in his videos, Enlist is the most important bottom row action to have an early plan for, and the star you know you'll get in every game. You need food for Enlist, and you need to get onto a farm for food. On some boards, trading for your food might end up working out, but probably not. And of course you could get very lucky with a first encounter that gives you strong food. But in a 7 player game, I think making that ultimatum with Russviet is your best bet.

    • @indef2def
      @indef2def Před 4 lety

      @@fmoros Rain almost gets there at 4:35, but misses the crucial game theory part, where you promise Russviet you're ready to tank the game to punish them if they get greedy for two farms.

    What does he mean with building a mill on a mountain is completely unique to Nordic? Saxony, Crimea and Rusviet could do it too, no?

    • @seemain50
      @seemain50 Před 5 lety

      He's talking about in their starting circle (island). Presumably without trading.

    • @WillianMates

      It is doable on turn three on some board, which is really powerfull, no other faction can put a mill on the iron that fast.
