  • Shoestring French Fries are way easier to make at home than you may think! The amount of money you will save is incredible and they taste better too!
Check out this video and I will show you just how easy it is to cut your own fries. I have detailed below the cook times that you can follow to cook your fries. I checked them more often than I really needed to in this video so you could see the progress! Have a great day and as always, thanks for watching!
    Instructions:
Cut your potato to size that you like and soak in water for at least an hour before air crisping in the Ninja Foodi.
Pre-heat the Ninja Foodi on Air Crisp mode to 400° F for at least 5 minutes.
Dry the excess water off of your fries with a paper towel or a flour sack like I used. I'll put the link below to the flour sacks so you can see what they are if you aren't familiar with them. They aren't literally flour sacks. 😂
Toss in a little bit of olive oil (or any oil you prefer) and lightly season with whatever seasoning you like.
Place fries in the basket of the Ninja Foodi and Air Crisp on 400 for 4-5 minutes, Flip and continue for another 4 minutes or so.
Then I would check every 1-2 minutes and stop the Air Crisp when they are done the way you like them. Mine took a total of 14 minutes.
Keep in mind that the larger the fry, the longer it will take for the inside to be done and the outside crisp. For really thick cut fries, you might want to bump down the heat to 375° F for the first 5 minutes or so to give the center time to cook and not burn the outside. After that 5 minutes I would increase the heat to 400°F.
The more fries you make at a time, the more often you want to move them around for even cooking and they will probably need longer than my 14 minutes.
Thanks so much for watching! Your support has been amazing and I can't you all enough for the wonderful comments. I feel very lucky to be here with you all.

Another great video, thank you. I made these for the first time, today. I think it's largely because I soaked the uncooked fries, as you recommended (which I'd never done before [i.e. not even pre-Foodi]) and also largely because your directions and demonstration are so clear and so good, the fries turned out to be the best I've ever made. Really crisp, really brown, just the way I like them.
Having said that, as I make them repeatedly, they may well improve.
Honestly, If I can do this *anybody* can.

Hello again!....i have tried fries every way under the sun. i learned a method by alton brown using russets by baking them first, and after cooling put them in the fridge over night. then using a sharp knife cut into steak fries, or smaller. then after that coat with olive oil, or better yet chicken fat. ....air fry, or deep fry. they are REALLY GOOD!
i like this method the best, but better yet i instantly have a baked potato, and the left over ones cooked, cooled, and put in the fridge i can make fries for another day.
I am in no way trying to give you advice, because YOU ROCK!..
anyway alton is a bit off the wall......lol....but the episode was on a steak, and fries method remake.

Ordered my Ninja Foodi and will receive it tomorrow. Have been binging your videos this afternoon. I am gluten free and most of the recipes can work for gluten free. Marjorie (Peggy)

I'd love to know how you adapt the recipes for gluten free so I can add those instructions to my written recipes. If you have the time, shoot me an email! louise@thesaltedpepper.com

I am going try to make the spaghetti. I use gluten free spaghetti - Ronzoni is a good brand to use. It tastes just like regular wheat based spaghetti. When you add flour for thickening gravies and such, I substitute with cornstarch. I do have a gluten free all purpose flour by King Arthur. This works well when having to dredge foods for air frying. I haven’t done this with the Ninja Crisper yet, but I like to do chicken strips in the air fryer. Will let you know how it works with the Ninja.

After I soak my potatoes. I run them thru my salad spinner. I add them to my basket for the 5 minute preheat. I then take them out and toss them in my oil and salt. I sometimes add a bit of tumeric or cumin because that's what I like. I then add them back to my foodi and air crisp for 20 minutes. I really benefited from your cutting demo. Thank you for that. Aren't fries in the foodi awesome? I'm still trying to figure out onion rings.

    • @TheSaltedPepper
      @TheSaltedPepper  Před 5 lety

I had a salad spinner years ago, but never really used it. I can see that being a big advantage though. I love the fries in the Foodi! I was semi successful with a blooming onion. I'll have to work on onion rings and perfect the blooming onion for sure.

@B- Dub, you dared say just like In N Out?!! Those are fighting words! But seriously, they really do look THAT good. @The Salted Pepper, definitely appreciate the soaking in water step, you’re right it makes a big difference. Also before I saw this video, I wasn’t patting them down again to remove the oil when they were finished so I will do that tonight to go with the REUBEN (because you’re right, it needs fries!)

I have the Ninja Foodie XL and um trying ti figue out how to do air fried fish and chips for 2. Even tho it’s the larger XL i cannot do the fish and chips at the same time. Im guessing i just have to air fry the chips first and then keep them hot in the oven while i air fry the fish.
