People have been collecting here for over 100 years......I read that on some weekends there were over 100 people collecting. Ive been going here for 20+ years and it's one of my favorite places to go. ALWAYS find something but some days are better than others.

Yeah I guess I’m just spoiled I have a spot at home that nobody has ever picked and have it all to myself

Still some nice stuff... my wife always finds the good stuff... I hit graves mountain, it was so big that it was hard to decide where to dig... next time I’m going to try a different pit

If you want to find anything at Moat Mountain you have to dig....dig.....dig......down 4-6 feet. Unless you go to the two other collecting sites well off to the left where you handle mostly rocks of different sites that were broken off two ledges. Then there is another place which is about a mile or two from these ledges which also has some nice things to find.

Thanks so much for this! This was really helpful; I’m just getting into rockhounding, and was looking for good spots, and frankly didn’t know where to go location wise, or what to look for when there

Hi, I'm going to do a couple days at Moat this week. Any tips on how I should be looking? Breaking bigger stuff? Sifting tailings? Searching on top? Last time I was there a month ago I found a couple nice pieces but just on top of the ground as it was dusk and it gets scary and dark in the woods fast I had to get moving quick so didn't have but maybe 30 mins to look around.

Be prepared to dig and dig deep near route systems

Are there any locations in New Hampshire you would recommend. I live in central New Hampshire and want to find cool rocks.

This is my back yard !! Bartlett, Conway, Intervale, Glen, Jackson, and the surrounding towns are picked pretty much clean. If you decide to venture out this way again, I can put you on some serious rock. Yes, it is isolated out here in the White Mountains, but gods greatest creations are hard to find.
Fun fact Redstone is literally 10 miles from this location. I’ll leave some literature, on what that means. It’s super cool.
