A well presented and produced film, especially for free viewing on CZcams, so well done Mike. Best practice for fish handling is changing all the time and it wasn't that long ago that fisheries like this would insist on the fish being dispatched, so I'm not sure why so many people have felt it necessary to be so hugely critical. They obviously enjoyed it, or they wouldn't have watched it! .
Very nice, i really enjoy the UK fly fishing shows, it's quiet, peaceful with beautiful surroundings, so much better then most of the macho yeah ha crap coming out of the U.S.
The Country Channel originally wanted a second series but then shelved the idea. Shortly after they stopped broadcasting on Sky. So no second series, which is a pity as we had planned to go into more detail, fly tying, casting and more varied methods.
Mike, they've had day tickets at the Barton Court fishery for many years; I went down there, by train, from Birmingham, when i was around 18 or 19 (I'm 60 now), but a great place, so much choice, a place where you can try different tactics without too many 'purist' rules and regulations I think; but a pleasant video.
using barbed hooks, handling the fish with dry hands and putting the fish on dry land is not the way to go if you are planning for them to live on afterwards.
It dont matter if your hands are wet from the line you should always wet your hands in the same water before you touch the fish shows how much yous know about fishing helps prevents the fish catching diseases you might as well just roll it about the grass and mud before you out it back as well take all the protective slim of the fish
Why won't a stocked fish survive the winter? I fish many rivers with tatttooed fish so we know which year they were stocked and they survive winters very well and grown on.
Herp is quite right. Please, please teach the necessity of wetting your hand before even touching a fish and then return it gently to the river. Seeing one swim happily away totally overwhelms the anticipation of the sizzle of butter in the frying pan. But, if you don't show each fish all due care, you might just as well fry them, they will probably die anyway!
I get that people mean well with their criticisms but surely putting a hook in its mouth and dragging it out the water by its face is doing it more harm than having dry hands?
If you don't wet your hands the fish is liable to get a fungal infection where its natural protection has been damaged by dry hands. If you don't take the precaution of wetting your hands you are better off knocking it on the head and having it for breakfast.
What are you lot moaning about wet hands etc. If it weren't for paying rods these beautiful streams would be polluted dead sewers. Be practical for goodness sake!
timairglider doesnt justify wrong handling of fish. Id rather see no fish in polluted sewers than dickheads thinking they know what theyre doing. Now piss off back in your glider knobrot.
Holy shit, come up here to Scotland and treat your fish like that you'd get kicked off the water, makes me cringe when you Handle fish like that and keep them out the water
Why would you treat such a beautiful creature with so little respect? You have the opportunity to teach people how to properly handle and care for a fish, instead you show little regard for its well being. It looks like from other post that this show was cancelled. I am happy for that.
Please inform yourself about the rules of catch and release of fish. It's bad as what to see! All fish have little Cance to survive. Very sad and a bad example.
I'm drooling about chalk stream fishing...the best in the world...You have it!...Lucky man.

I agree, wrong handling of fish if you intend to catch and release.
I agree 100% that's against any catch & release policy no matter if it's a stocked fish

you have reel the wrong way round for a right hand cast
Why is that

They are stocked fish so wouldn't survive the winter anyway so anglers are meant to kill them

All these armchair experts banging on about handling. I wish they would get a life. Well done Mike

also your line is in a real mess,if you get a decent fish on you know all about it

Agreed. Cringed each time he did this.
