    Thanks for enlightening me regarding bear species. At least I got the moose bit right. Glad you enjoyed the vid, very envious of the fishing available to you.

    That’s some nice filming and at summer Low by the looks of it! Where you started on the tail of the leaning willow pool not 5 meters away there is a channel and the start of some slaby rocks and your up to chest deep where the grass on the rock is in view . the head of the heirag pool where you had your first grayling would be well over twice your height in depth , so it’s a place to take real care when walking up and past , I once had big trout take me down that fast shoot of water a the head and wrote a little piece about the battle (on my web site if you interested ) which it won no surprises there if you see the rapids !.
    I know so much about the water as I was the first river keeper on Wye and Usk foundations passport Scheme and the first resident fly fishing guide and coach on the beat , I will add there are some nice Chubb and one of my clients picked up the first recorded Barbel on a fly of Gromain witnessed by Stephen .

    This looks like a place to catch Atlantic Salmon. I've never met an angler with such astute knowledge of land, water, animals and fish as you...Best wishes to you.

    Awesome videos! Keep producing them even though people think they know more than you about fishing when I reality there is always some that knows more than you in any topic.

    Hi Vance. Normally I only use barbless hooks. I find they set deeper than barbed so you get a good hold and as you say they are better for catch and release. As many of the venues in this series were catch and keep I used barbed hooks (the director was very keen for me to put fish on the bank!)
    Nice to know you care about the welfare of the fish.
    Regards Mike

    Hi Louis. This is called the New Zealand method. The dry fly is attached to your leader as normal. An extra lenght of tippet is attached to the bend of the dry fly hook with a uni knot. The nymph is then tied to end of the extra tippet. This method allows the dry fly to be presented correctly (lying on the surface), Have your tippet to the nymph about the same as the depth of water you're fishing. Hope that helps. Best Fishes. Mike

    very much enjoyed your vidio but I must tell you with a sly grin, I`m from colorado and if you see a grizzly you`ve fished about 600 miles to the north :) Plenty of black bear tho, plus moose, elk and eagles. If you ever find yourself in Colorado please enjoy all we have to offer. Catch and release but enjoy a trout or two for dinner if you desire. Quite tasty ! Again...Thanks for the vid

    Hi.. This was the Gromain beat on the Wye, there are many others available on the main river. If you go to the Wye and Usk Foundation website you can get day tickets for the Wye, Usk, Monnow and loads of the tributaries. There is a map where you can pick the waters near you. Usually less than a tenner a day and within 25 miles of Hereford. Hope that helps. Tight lines. Mike

      @johnjones2970 Před 6 lety

      You won't get salmon fishing for a tenner that's for sure. £35-45 pounds with just a slim chance of a fish on most beats. Check the beats catch records for instance -you may get a shock depsite all the hype

    Hey, mate! Nice video, nice fishing. Hope to get there myself, someday. Have you considered switching to barbless fly hooks (or) de-barbing your hooks? Surprising how many more fish you will hook with a barbless hook and this also reduces the mortality rate significantly... Angle on!

    He didn't appear to wet his hands, the trout was flapping on rocks, he was slow to unhookand appeared to throw it back in. Otherwise ok.

    Invest in a hemostat so you don't kill the fish in that crap net you carry. You squeeze the heck out of those beautiful fish trying to take a small hook out of a small fishes mouth with your big clumsy fingers.

    Oh dear, barbed hooks for C&R - guess a lot has moved on since 2012 - for the better in terms of welfare. The increased pollution everywhere we are still to deal with - Wye and Use foundation are doing a sterling job - what will the govt. do after the 'great shoot yourself in the foot exercise' that is Brexit remains to be seen. The govt. are pretty sloppy on most UK infrastructure issues unless it profits their transnational corporate masters. Thank goodness for the vigilance of Foundations, clubs, syndicates and the Angling trust. The float on top brigade - Kayak etc. contribute nothing of course and are unlikely to do anything other than exploit the river in their endlessly entitled way - until sewage discharge makes a few of them ill on a regular basis.
