  • An obsession is a fear, worry or preoccupation, and a compulsion is an action done (mentally or physically) to try to neutralise the obsession or alleviate the distress. In this video I talk about some of the obsessions and compulsions I have had from my OCD caused by PANDAS / PANS.
I am really lucky that the OCD was only at it's worst for a few weeks and only lasted for a few months. I was saved from dealing with this for longer as I realized I have PANDAS / PANS. I saw a big difference with antibiotics. If people are not given the correct diagnosis or do not get treatment for PANDAS / PANS, then they may be left to live in a state worse than this for years... or even a lifetime. I have it better than many people with PANDAS / PANS, I got the care I need and my symptoms were not as severe and did not last as long as many people's. Everyone deserves the best quality of life possible, everyone deserves to be listened to and to be able to access the care they need.
In this video I talk about the OCD obsessions I have experienced. Some of this may be triggering for some people so be mindful of the trigger warning. My OCD was caused by PANDAS / PANS. PANDAS is where someone gets a strep infection and the immune system gets confused and starts attacking part of the brain called the basal ganglia leading to symptoms such as severe OCD, tics, food restriction and more. PANDAS related OCD is treated slightly differently to how classic OCD is treated. People with PANDAS need antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and immune modulating treatments as well as the classic OCD treatments. Without the the treatments that target the underlying infection, inflammation and autoimmunity, people are unlikely to recover, It is vital that people with PANDAS/ PANS get the appropriate treatment, but it is hard because only a few doctors here in the UK treat PANDAS / PANS and the NHS is wonderful but unfortunately does not always cover many PANDAS / PANS treatments so a lot of families are under financial strain due to this.
If you would like to help those of us in the PANDAS / PANS community, please consider donating to a charity such as PANS PANDAS UK or ASPIRE - The Alliance to Solve PANS and Immune Related Encephalopathies. Research is vital as it will allow us to have more treatment options and will encourage more doctors to go into the field of helping people with PANDAS / PANS. Awareness is vital and makes a huge difference as well, so please speak up about PANDAS / PANS if you feel that is something you can do. If you would like to learn more then you can watch some of my other videos on PAANDAS / PANS or OCD.
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is a serious mental illness that more people need to understand.

Hey Everyone! I hope this video has been helpful for you! If you would like to support me for the work I do, you can contribute financially through my buy me a coffee page. www.buymeacoffee.com/ticcersunite I don't get paid for any of my videos, they are not monetized. Adverts are still shown because CZcams feels they have the right to advertise on creators videos, but if the videos aren't actually monetized then the creator doesn't get anything. I put a lot of time into researching, making videos, and editing, so if anyone did want to help out then that would be amazing! Please do not feel obliged to do so though, it's just great to have you all here!

You're such a sweet person. I'm, so sorry that you have had such a battle through the years.. I wish you peaceful thoughts and a calm heart. And You're NOT a Bad Person. When I listen to you talk, I hear and kind and compassionate person. (Philippians 4:6 & 7)

Another great video. Thanks! I also have ocd with my tics. Best thing for me was not googling! Makes it a million times worse. Nice to see someone making awareness videos on these topics !

Great video. Thank you for letting me know I'm not alone. I do but suffer from PANDAS/PANS but I do from OCD + tics (tourettic OCD).

i’ve had pandas for almost five years now and i remember how horrible my ocd was. like, i would carry hand sanitizer or clorox wipes with me just so that if someone touched me, i could sanitize that spot. i had ended up going to therapy for it which helped tremendously (along with getting my tonsils removed lol). and although my ocd is still bad, it’s a lot better than it used to be :))

Hey. I have a question. If you have a mental Tic - for example like just any thoughts without the fear but with anxiety - how do you deal with them? I have mild to severe intrusive thoughts and they trigger my Tics very badly. Any advice would be good!

For mental tics I found that listening to music sometimes helps, along with being busy and distracting yourself.
For intrusive thoughts I am not sure what advice I would give, I am still learning but I think that not resisting them and knowing that they are just thoughts can help but that is ablot easier said than done. I found that being out in nature was very calming for me and pretty much temporarily stopped my intrusive thoughts. If you are having a particularly rough day due to intrusive thoughts then taking it easy and doing things that bring you comfort may help.
