    If oxford had absorbed these colleges, what's the point of doing so? Is the underlying rationale similar to that which motivated chain stores?

      The colleges came together to form Oxford, rather than Oxford absorbing them. Bit like how the 13 original colonies became the USA.

      @@JesusCollegeOxford1571 I see, I thought it was something like a European Union still accepting new members. I think I confused myself over the word college, believing that the physical size of Oxford is equivalent to ~40 universities combined. Having looked up the wiki just now, I see that that's not the case. But anyways, thanks for making these videos; I like how they set proper attitudes for people to learn and explore
