Honestly this april fools was more painful than playful, lots of jokes were basically companies posting what we wanted for years rather than goofy things no one really thought of before.

You forgot to mention why Putin is mandating the development of gaming consoles. All three console makers don’t sell to Russia anymore. I hope if it somehow happens that none of the major developers will support a hypothetical console created by a mandate from Putin.
Companies like EA and Sony will. Hard to say if Microsoft would. Before Activision Blizzard, Bobby absolutely would have jumped at that.

@@CrocvsGator If they can work out a deal they would. A return to the country would be something they would work to do to expand business. Only reason Microsoft wouldn't likely be able to is because they take government contracts.

Russia creating their own game system is not far fetched, China makes a bunch of their own.
It's easy enough to put a gaming tag on a piece of hardware.
The hard part is actually making/having original games, polishing them and the overall experience.

A lot of the Chinese ones are just using tech they've been building for other countries. They don't necessarily have the patent for them to do so. Why build your own game library when they can just make a cheap knockoff that can run existing games?

Dreamcast Mini needs to become a reality. I would buy it. It was one of my absolute favorite systems. It was sad that it failed when it was built so well.

Russia’s last great console was Dendy in the 1990s. They have tons of popular Russian IP some of which they’ve been putting into movies recently that made bank. They are now looking to develop some of that into video game content.
I remember when Blizzard released an April Fool's day article adding Pandarian race to WOW. This was very early in WOW's life. Then a decade later they released it for real in Mists of Pandaria. Pretty funny how it is a litmus test sometimes.

April Fools was pretty tame this year overall. My favorite was Arrowhead saying they were adding a paid only premium currency to Helldivers 2 called Democracy Dollars for a premium paid only warbond and for progression medals as well as a PvP mode. Was hilarious because that is 100% opposite of everything they've said and built the game around but people lost their freaking minds over it.
One thing from yesterday that sounded like a joke but turned out to be 100% real is Night Dive announced they’re remastering the infamous 3DO and PS1 FPS “PO’ed.” yes, the game where one enemy type is literal butts on legs is getting a remaster from none other than Night Dive!
The main issue I have with some April fools jokes is that even if they don't fool me, I do get disappointed to know that it's fake. Like the Dreamcast mini. There's no element of fun there. You fool people? Great, you fooled people and now they are disappointed it was fake. You didn't fool people? Great, now you've made people disappointed that there is no Dreamcast mini.

Resident Evil 1 remake. KILLED ME. I've been hoping for it for a long time now. However the og GameCube remake surprisingly still holds well.

I was just disappointed before I realized it was a joke. We have a perfectly good remake of 1 already that is incredibly accessible and still one of the best games in the series. Why do we need ANOTHER remake of it? I'd rather they remake a game that actually needs more work, like Code Veronica or RE0.

And, I agree that code v needs to be brought to this Era, I SELFISHLY just want my precious RE1 re done. A big BUT is that RE1make we have is sooo good that I bought they could top it. After the years of wondering if a dreamcast mini would ever happen.. I finally bit the bullet and got a Japanese dreamcast (cheaper and in far better condition than used US ones), HDMI converter and crap tons of games (which are insanely easy to rip *cough*) and damn does this system hold up. Still looks bizarrely good with a cheap converter and I love "arcade-y" games which the DC is the king of. It will always have a permanent home in my gaming set up.
Those April Fool's Day jokes were hilarious, but the Dreamcast one is cold. Stone cold. So mean. Lol now I want one and it better have more than 9 games.

•Heavy focus on services in lieu of quality games
•Outdated controller design, lacking haptic feedback and still requiring the use of batteries
•Console may launch in a two sku configuration, one being a capable premium experience, the other being a gimped downgrade. Putin expects to sell far more of the inferior console.
•Aggressive strategy to buy up publishers to fuel the services, with great human cost (mass layoffs) expected, along with questionable software quality.
