There is something about Floyd music that ages and matures with you the older you get. Revealing emotion and depth that could have very well passed you by at a younger age. This could be part of its timelessness. It is the musical gift that truly keeps on giving.

Speed does not equate to talent. Unfortunately, it seems to be believed it does these days. Gilmour is perfect on each note, in my book, that's far more important and a sign of actual talent.

It did for me too! This song was the second time (in my lifetime) I've had what I refer to as a 'music-gasm' (it's a good thing, not perverted). So that makes it one of the top two musical experiences of my life, as far as not being at a show physically (not too shabby!).

My wife and I along with several other couples went to see that show in Atlanta at the Bobby Dodd stadium both nights. and it rained one of the nights, the fog came down right above the stage and enhanced the laser light show twice as much it was awesome.
I went totally sober so I could take in every second for future memories. When that song played at the end of the show we looked around and EVERYONE was openly crying and singing our hearts out along with the band, by far the best concert ever! David Gilmour just pours out his soul through music and that guitar!

the tower spinning beside David Gilmore is called a Lesley speaker. if you listen to organ music, sometimes it sounds kind of swirly. organs use to almost exclusively use Lesley speakers as it was the preferred sound. if you look closely, there are four sides. two of them have spotlights, the other two have three speakers each. guitarists have used Lesleys in the past.
glad you enjoyed your trip to the other planet.

If your interested in the roots of how a band gets to that level, I would strongly urge you watch PF "Echoes live at Pompeii" where they play in an empty Roman Amphitheater with no audience.
Even in the early 70's PF were already in a select group of bands head-n-shoulders above the rest.
Worth having the lyrics although it's mostly instrumental. But the song reflects on the beggings of life in the oceans through to two humans recognising themselves as mere echoes of that first life on earth and the connection we all have.
It's a rabbit hole for sure, but if you want to go deeper then "buckle up dorethy, kansas is about to go bye bye!" 😊

Yea, I was at the show. working in London at the time so went to 6 nights of a ten night run. The entrance was through the adjacent hall where they had the food and merc stands; dominated by the original 20 foot heads from the Division Bell CD cover. They changed a few songs during the first half of the show, the second half was the complete DSOTM album, and the encore the usual trio of Wish You Were Here, Comfortably Numb and Run Like Hell.

As an English man of a certain age I may be accused of being bias but I don't believe that any other country has produced the quality of music that has come out of my little Island in the last 50 years , there is no other band quite like Pink Floyd in my opinion, I think people will still be listening to that guitar solo a hundred years from now and be moved in the same way as people today . Ps America has produced some wonderful bands and solo artists some of which I like a lot but I think I grew up in the right era and right place for music, especially Rock music.

As a "yankee" girl of a certain age, I have to agree wholeheartedly! I grew up listening to, and falling in love with, a fair number of brilliant musicians from your little island. The level of creativity, imagination and musicianship is mind-boggling! Not taking away from the great contribution of American artists to the music scene in the last 50-60 years - but there really must be something in the water over there! And no, I don't think we will ever see a band quite like Pink Floyd again.

I witnessed this twice, Earls Court London 1980 and Sydney 1988. You were also allowed to smoke in the auditorium at the time!

I think the "spinning thing" that you refer to is a rotary speaker system that Dave Gilmour uses as part of his rig.

I'm thinking they had those white lights spinning on the stage are supposed to be lighthouse light beacons to the "distant ship on the horizon". That's what I get from them. And yes, I did see them on that tour at the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans.

@@BetterEveryDayCZcams I have a suggestion, if you want a closer experience to the live version of same song, find someone with a huge TV, hooked into a massive stereo, darken the room, and watch it again, laptops or computer screens don't even come CLOSE to what you can get out of this video, and youll have a better understanding of what it was like to be there, turn it up to 11, or as high as you can without any distortion, loud and clean is paramount ^^

Wasn't at that particular show but saw them during that tour. I'm pretty sure I went into sensory overload lol....there was almost too much happening to take it all in. Never seen anything like it before or since. Wouldn't have recommended anyone who was epileptic to go as the finale "Run like hell" would have sent them into uncontrollable seizures.

@@BetterEveryDayCZcams *big thumbs up* Young body but old soul I woud say (it's a compliment :-P ). You described the feeling better than I would have been able to express it! I just got lost and tripping. Really don't remember how I got home after these concerts .... but my life had been changed :-) ... It's the bitter-sweet feeling of melancholy.

Classic song from one of the greatest bands of all time. But to me, I like the studio version better cause the sound seemed kinda muffled to me, although the stage show and lasers were awsome, not to mention David Gilmores guitat solo...

There is an imbalance between your voice and the music. Please turn your voice volume up. I was there at the Division Bell tour and experienced the whole thing. Amazing, epic.
