It is my first experience into the low vision world, first time I had to look for help for an aging mother whose macular degeneration is starting to affect daily life. Really useful review. I have just been contacted by my dad as he has seen adverts for the Orcam and wanted me to do some research for him. He is in his 90s and blind which means his world is full of challenges and danger. From the advert the Orcam sounded like it would make him like Commander Laforge from Startrek. The reality is, sadly, a few years away yet. You can see the direction and the future but it isn't here in 2023.
Still, at least I know the truth now.
This is an excellent comparison between these two products. Thank you for taking the time to do this, and for your thoroughness. I do have the Orcam MyEye Pro. I would not have purchased the device myself given the extremely high price tag, but have to say I use it all the time and it has significantly improved my ability to function more independently in public and in private. I would have a hard time giving it up now. Let’s hope for that Orcam, Envision baby to come along some day.

You did a great job comparing the two devices. Yes, I am waiting for that baby also! By the way, orcam my eye pro is currently $3700 on Amazon, but if you need customer support, youre going to be waiting a long time.

I would not prefer both because of the very high price of the products& less accuracy of the software . In my opinion my phone would do a better job for me as I have a somewhat decent vision to use my phone indoors . But I loved the AI in it's initial stages hope it will improve in the future and the price could be reasonable then I might give it a thought. Keep up the good work And congratulation for 2 k subs many more achievement waiting to be unlocked

Another excellent review. And yeah, it got me to back off of the Envision product just yet. Orcam looks excellent but is also needs development (particularly, as you mentioned, as to battery life). Neither are worth the cost yet. Soon perhaps. Right, Seeing AI looks like the way to go for the time being. Thanks again for an honest detailed appraisal.

Thanks Scott! I do try to be fair and balanced and not sugar coat tech as I see a lot of creators do. I believe that there is amazing benefit to a lot of adaptive equipment, but it should be balanced with any potential flaws or drawbacks, of which, all products have many!

Congratulations for this great research and examples, this was so helpful. We are just starting in this techonology aides four our son and trying to make a decision. What´s the Microsofot option that you mentioned?
Thank you! I'm glad you found the video helpful! It can be a very expensive and complicated decision depending on what it will be used for. Microsoft Seeing AI is a free app that you can download to iPhone or Android and it does many of the same things as these glasses. There's also Google Lookout for Android which is also free. Only thing I like about both is they're hands free. If I could have a camera interface with seeingAI or be my eyes, I'd purchase that!

Orcam can be used in other countries. I would check to see if it can do your preferred language(s). I know there are a few options.
Have you tested apple glasses? Will those be of any help to legally blind people?

Could you feel either one of them get warm like a cellphone next to your head?
I can't recall feeling either device being very hot.
I don’t use Seeing AI at all; I don’t like it at all. I love my OrCam. I just wish it had a longer battery life.
Does it read in language other than English?
Yes, I believe each device reads in several langue's. You can check it out on their respective websites depending on which device you are more interested in. :)
Can i drive with this device
If you are visually impaired or legally blind this device will not allow you to drive.
My boy cannot use a cell phone in school. I'm looking at something like this to help him read.
So which one worth getting?
Ultimately I think that depends on your use case. It'll be a different answer for everyone. Some would prefer one device over another, some would prefer a free app. It's entirely person dependent.
In my opinion, both items are way overpriced, but there’s really no comparison between the two cents the Envision Glasses can connect you to an Aira Agent. To be a fair comparison, you would have to ask The or cam to walk you across a busy intersection or call you an Uber. 16:31
The only question becomes how much privacy do you have with this technology because. You may be reading a bill or other financial papers with a lot of important personal information that would allow someone to take on your identity or hack you or bankrupt you or sell your data to marketing data harvesters
