I rescued one today I have never had a gerbil before but I have many small rodents the gerbil was in a 5 gallon tank with no bedding now she’s chilling in a 40 gallon tank with lots of bedding I do hope to get her a friend soon tho
PetSmart has dried flower mixes with their tortoise/reptile foods! Idk if they're cheaper than Etsy, but it could be an option in a pinch 😊 great video!
Hello! I just wanna say that your videos have always kept me happy and gave me the best care for my gerbils. I know this sounds like every comment, but you deserve so many more views and thank you for putting time into your day to make these
Great video. I'm setting up a tank and really having trouble finding a wooden wheel for Gerbils, not made out of pine. When I look for further details, for the wheels on amazon currently, they actually all seem to be made from it and I know that's not recommended. Maybe I'm being too fussy and should see if they chew it at all, they may just leave it alone.
So I had an idea to save money on gerbil bedding..... when I clean the cage monthly if I take out 1/4 bedding that is still clean and keep it for the play pen, I’ll still throw away 1/4 dirty bedding so they still have half of the used bedding that is the cleanest x
Hi✨so the thing is i have a gebril and we have him for like a month…?but we wont to have another one but in the shop they said that he is agresive to others and we (my mother and i) want another one.help!
my gerbils seem to be very un sociable and iv tried everything on the taming video but i’m still trying to talk to them, but one of them is just very skittish they just don’t seem to sociable and i would love to change that. any tips?
I don't have gerbils yet 😅 but one question is how much do they cost for you? Like how much did they cost the first year if you know. I can't seem to get a clear answer out of Google, Thank you! (Sorry if you have a video on it if you do I did not see it)
@@lexibrown316 I don't know for sure but, rodents are prey animals sometimes they will never be fully tame or it can take up too 2 years like my guinea pigs took 2 years to take sadly, I also did not look at too many taming rodents videos then though.
hello ! i just love what you're doing and i'd love to have myself three gerbils, but id love to know what is the size of their tank ? i was wondering if a 120X50X50 cm tank was enough ? thank you so much. please keep going
i was wondering if it was okay for my two female gerbils to sleep alone, because they sleep together sometimes but i just noticed them sleeping separately in there bedding. is that okay? they were sleeping together earlier this morning though, I just got them yesterday morning.
I’m upgrading and building my tank for my 2 gerbils but I can’t figure out how/what to make a good divider out of. Do you know of any good Materials/what you did for yours?
My gerbils are fighting and I separated the one that they are fighting with what should I do? And yes the foot was injured and the nose was scratched and I feel really bad what should I do?
I am really sorry to hear that. :( the first thing I would do is take them to the vet so they can heal properly and avoid infections. Bonding can be quite hard once fighting has occurred, and I honestly think it’s up to you on what you think you should do. You could try to pair them up slowly again through the bonding process, or pair them with different gerbils. If they are older gerbils, you can keep them alone as it is quite a difficult thing to do at an older age. All that being said, it is a hard decision with no real answer, you can probably ask your vet for advice as well. ♥️
I honestly recommend a 40 gallon or above. The bare minimum would be a 20g for two but I definitely think you’ll need a cage topper for their wheel, water, and sand, if it is that size as you won’t have enough space to use a divider!
Off topic Just cleaned my gerbils cage and it’s my first month of having them. I had to pick them up and out of it and felt bad because they hated it. Is it okay? Will I lose any bonding experience?
hi, I had 2 male gerbils sadly one passed away and my gerbil is now alone, he had been alone for a year, now and he is one and a half years old. I want him to be happy , if ill bring to him a friend should it be a male or a female, how to introduce them to each other without them fighting? , or he is better alone? plz answer :)
It would be hard to acclimate a male to another male without them becoming territorial or fighting, so your best bet would be a female but be prepared for babies if they do end up having pups
Hi Alma! You can introduce your male gerbil to another male provided that the new one is still a pup, between 5-8 weeks old. If he's older than that, it can be difficult for your gerbil to accept him, as the "cute / vulnerable factor" of pups is over when they reach 9-10 weeks old and become juveniles and become territorial. You can pair them using neutral territory (NEVER by placing the new gerbil directly in your gerbil's enclosure), but you must supervise them at all times when they're together in the neutral territory in case that the old one wants to pick a fight. When you see that they get along well, you can introduce food or enrichment in the territory one by one (the sand works miracles, as both their smells will get mixed when they use it). The key points for a successful bonding is patience (the process may take some days) and being able to read the gerbils' moods and reactions in order to prevent a fight or territorial behaviour. I suggest that you look for more information in gerbil forums about this process (I read about it in a Spanish forum, so I can't provide any sources). And most importantly, make sure to research as much as possible before trying the bonding, as you must understand that there are risks involved for the gerbils; and you should feel comfortable and confident that you will be able to cope with any outcome. After all these warnings, I'll finish my message on a positive note. 6 months ago one of my gerbils died, leaving his companion alone (both were 1 year old males). One week after the death, I successfully bonded my male gerbil with two male pups (one was 5 weeks and the other 8 weeks old) in a couple of days using neutral territory. Now my first gerbil is like a dad to the other two, and they've been together since then like a family 😊 I wish you good luck if you decide to try it out 😉

Yes! I use those and featured them in my favorite supplies video! They’re available in some Petco’s as well
i also wouldn’t recommend metal wheels they can possibly give your gerbils bumble foot but it can get there feet stuck
Very true!
Tic tac wheels are solid metal not mesh but are fairly heavy so depends on the strength of your gerbil
Thank you so much for all this info, I’m researching about gerbils so I can properly care for them, thank you so much!! 🥰

Haha, yeah I dry my own flowers too, but most of the time it's from a bouquet so I wouldn't feel comfortable feeding it to my animals sadly.
Ah yeah those wouldn’t be safe. I grow them specifically for pets :)
Ive got a white and grey gerbil called cocoa and a ginger brown and grey one called willow

Cardboard or wood with a slit cut out to go in and out will work great!
Is it ok to put rabbit hay in a gerbil cage for them to burry in and help make their tunnels

Give them space tomorrow to get them used to their new bedding and recreate tunnels!
Thank you! I just feel a little bad destroying the tunnels they make, but you gotta clean :)
Any cheep sigestions for a tank type cage for two gerbils that is bigger than 20 gal I have a 20gal right now and want to upgrade
Anywhere 150 below
@@m.a.c.y7980 Petco often has a $1 per gallon sale!
Ikea Detolf
You could make an Ikea Linnmon too. It is the same price as one of those small cages.
Petco is having a 50% sale on their tanks right now!
can you feed gerbils cheerios
Plain cereal with no added sugars or extra ingredients can be fed as a treat! You don't want the Cheerios brand because those have excess sugars.
