In this video I show you my massive collection of jars, reusable bags, and more to contain all of my gerbil's food mixes and treats! We also have a small tribute remembering my hamster, Simba, for growing all of my flax and wheat sprays.

If you stayed until the end answer the question here! 🌟 also, which gerbil do you think made an appearance here?

I'm gonna guess Almond made the appearance! And to answer your question...
I store my gerbils' food in that same large container you have, actually!

We store David's food in random jars and things 😀 for his forage we use an IKEA tub, for pea flakes we use a nesquik tub and for seeds and treats pasta sauce jars

Those jars are great and I use those kind too for so many things. I also use square glass containers with snap lids for my larger food items because it's easier to access. They keep food items safe from ants or any other little bugs better than even keeping them in a resealable bag or plastic containers (never liked plastic Tupperware type containers except for storing leftovers in the frig after dinner, lol) and they keep them fresher longer. Even though I don't make an entirely from-scratch food mix, I still like to put the food in glass jars when I can. Your vid has reminded me that I need to buy some for the hamster/gerbil foods I have. My other were co-opted for art supplies, lol.

I love those snap lid tubs! Definitely want to get myself some of those!
Also noticed another voiceover style video, are you enjoying making them? I prefer making voiceover videos myself ☺️

I try to do a mix of both in my channel! It’s definitely a lot more challenging/heavy editing when I’m doing voiceovers to make it entertaining and educational. I do love them more if only for the fact I don’t have to judge my every movement and appearance on camera :’)

@@finsandwhiskers that's really interesting hearing your experience ☺️
Weirdly, I actually find it easier to edit voiceover videos 😅 I think the first few times were more difficult, but since I've collected sooo much footage of gerbils now, I find it easier to sift through ye olde archives or shoot some B-roll, rather than set up and record a whole talking head segment! I also find it easier to make them more educational because I have to show it, I can't just say it. I've found my retention tends to be better for my voiceover videos too so I take that as a sign my audience prefers them too, these are just my experiences though, I think everyone should make the content they enjoy the most in whatever style they're most comfortable with ☺️

@@PetConnectionInternational I make it hard on myself! I make all of my animations, keying edits, art, all that jazz. I have many “ready to go” animations made in the past, but I also cater to my own words in every video to make specific animation decisions, many new. I’ve found that my voiceovers and filming myself both do well! You should always just have fun with your content. It’s not always about analytics ♥️

    In terms of storage:
    - flower mix in a small glass jar from the dollar store
    - leaves and roots mix in a small glass jar
    - seed mix in a large glass jar from Walmart
    - treats we typically keep in original packaging
    - sprays or original bags of the herbs and such we also keep in their original packaging

Hey! Thanks for all the content. We’re new gerbil owners and really have used your videos to mold our gerbil care. So thank you! What we haven’t done (yet) is create our own gerbil food. I know you don’t recommend commercial food, but if you were to use one what would it be? We do plan on making our own someday but for now we have to go commercial . Thanks!

She’s mentioned this before, Higgins Sunburst is one of the best. It still has 2% too much fat, as it is created for both hamsters and gerbils, though the dietary needs of these species’ are different, but it’s better. I actually just asked a question in the comments of this video asking what I could do to make the ratio better, so if she replies, I’ll edit this comment. (:

What tank size would you recommend for two gerbils?

Hey! So, I’ve heard you talk about how Higgins Sunburst food is one of the best for gerbils, but it still has 2% too much fat. I was wondering if you had any tips, such as what I could add to even out the formula, or what ingredients are high in fat, so I could remove them and use them as treats instead. (A do it yourself mix is sadly not an option for me.)

It actually doesn't matter too much as long as you are monitoring your gerbils and they have a lot of space and things to do, they will excersize. If they do gain a lot of weight you can mix some dried herbs and flowers and that might work
      Hope this helps!

Hii!! I have two gerbils they have a issue with biting at the lid, do you have any tips to help my stop them, do you think it could be lack of nutrition??

    • @finsandwhiskers
      @finsandwhiskers  Před 2 lety

How much bedding do they have? Sometimes you have to lower their things just enough so they can’t reach, otherwise they just get interested to see where they can go
