She thinks Josie is overreacting but Maria clearly doesn't understand that she's in the wrong here for not only lying to her friend about being poor but also that she took advantage of Josie's generosity and kindness, which makes her a bad friend. Josie did the right thing
Sometimes the people you love and trust have a way of stabbing you in the back, and this proves it all.

I also love how calm and collective Josie acts and mature about the situation. Tells you that there is no need to raise your voice, shout or react in an overtly dramatic way. Her acting and using a more calm yet firm tone was powerful.

Wow! That lady was so shallow and materialistic. Josie has a genuine and caring heart; willing to help someone that, she thought, was down in a tough situation. Now she'll know to be much more careful when it comes to finances and others.

The first thing she should have done when her son told her about seeing her friend shopping at that expensive store was called the bank and put a stop payment on that check. She shouldn’t have waited until the next day to see that sorry excuse for a friend. Wow, what a selfish person. Such a sad story.
That stop payment option will not help if the cheque has already been encashed. Sometimes, communication really is the key to help clear the air.

If Maria was having money problems and wanted to keep up her lavish lifestyle, why didn't she try and get a job instead of making a wally out of poor Josie? A real friend doesn't lie and use you for their own selfishness. Maria didn't deserve such a kind and generous friend. That money was from a fund for Josie's surgery, which makes it even worse.

But rewatching I can see they haven’t seen each other in awhile. So, I can see how the manipulator, Maria, can pull off her scam. So, I take back the initial paragraph, somewhat. But, if Maria pulling this off like this, I can’t see how Josie, didn’t know about Maria doing this to anyone else.

How dare she borrow money to keep up with her lifestyle. Before I would of let her borrowed anything I would of made her sign a contract since it was a loan. Then I would of sued her to get my money back. Also would of made mutual friends aware so they don't lend her money. That woman was so selfish.
I also was shocked that Josie didn't make Maria sign a legally binding Contract before loaning her money. Maria would have thought twice before using Josie's money to go on a lavish shopping spree if she had signed a legally binding Contract.

I can't see myself ending the entire aspects of a friendship over a monetary/secular matter, but I would have ended the social part of the friendship as this woman might have done.
