The flip flop paint was called Mystic. I hated it. I had a dealer at Park Cities Ford in Dallas try to sell one to me for $3000 over sticker. I told him it looked like an eggplant and he’d have CUT $3000 to get me to buy one. I ended trading my 1994 GT for a sinister triple black car, number 3711 of 7496. I drove it daily for 8 years and 121,000 miles before trading it for a 2005 GT ragtop. Mr. 3711 ended up in the hands of a mouth breathing 18 y/o kid who blew the synchros out of the transmission inside of a month, thankfully before the car could kill him. It was a cool car for 1996, damn near a Ferrari worthy engine at the price of a fancy Fairmont. The exotic quad cam engine revved like a dentist’s drill, lunging for the redline like a pit bull after the postman, then BANG sideways into second and do it again!. I still have the certificate stating it’s 3711 of 7496, and a whole bunch of memories of the time this was one of the baddest rides on the street. This one brought back a bunch of memories, THANK YOU BILL. They are BBS 2 piece wheels - model E88 I think. They do make replicas of them too. Either way, I think they look great and go well with the red color. You're right about the color, it is very rare.
305 horse and has 300 torque same number the pushrod motors had the difference is the peak torque comes in at 4800 while the pushrod had that number at like 3k lol. Huge difference. the answer you say? 456 gears my friend...turns these cars into a monster and its not near as low you think the trans is long geared and these things pull to 7k rpm stock so 456 is what they need. a gear swap alone would take off at least half second et and prob gain you a couple mph too which for such a simple change is pretty drastic. bolt ons, 456 gears, tune and sticky tires these things can go deep into the 12s which is a big improvement over the 13.9s they run stock. This is the coyote engines grandfather and the reason the coyote exists at all. Alot of younger ford fans don't give these cars the respect they deserve.

DOHC V8 sounds good, but has little torque. Can't outrun 4th Gen Z28 SS or Ram Air Trans Am without hot rodding it. 4th Gen V8 F Body looks hotter and can be modified to fly.😎 . 1995 Cobra 351 R or 1994-98 Saleen S 351 is a different story, though.😀
Meh, I had a 96 WS6 and a 96 Cobra, they are/were just about the same. LT1 would beast off the line and run out of breath at mid/high rpm where the Cobra would shine. Both were fun cars. One thing the Cobra had was a much better interior that’s for sure! Miss them both….and my 01 Camaro SS….and my 14 Mustang GT. I drive a 392 Scat Pack Charger now that would roast them all :)
@@frankez1975 Well, let's just say that ohv V8 engines really are best combo of simplicity and tuning. Ferraris and others use dohc engines but are expensive.😀
It is def faster than the lt1 cars and isn't much behind the ls cars. Only hot rodding it needs to run right with an ls car from the 90s would be steep gears and the driver mod.
He is funny he says the modular engine was on par with what GM was doing at the time. That's hilarious GM Camaro Z28 was doing nothing at the time so either that was a joke or he really don't know a thing as I thought. Lol
To his credit I think he was just talking about the rated horsepower and torque. The GM's had 275 with the LT1, and I believe 330 with the LS1. The GT definitely couldn't keep up but the Cobra had a chance, even with the later LS1 if you got the holeshot. The F bodies were mid 13 second cars, the Cobra typically high 13s. The advantage the Cobra had was everyday comfort and driveability/visibility, not to mention the GM twins squeaked and rattled like crazy (made even worse with the admittedly cool t tops) even when new. Neither ponycar was exceedingly well put together, to be sure, but the Cobras were a fair bit better. As you'd definitely notice as these cars age.
Admin is 7:40 here's where he really is funny and doesn't know anything. What Firebirds in Camaros are you talking about in 1996? What years did GM draw blank for Camaros is it 1995 or 96 to 2000? Not sure but those are where the best years Camaros were made either way lol
It's a 4v bro. Also if you have a non pi 2v 96-98 all you gotta do is add pi heads and intake to the non pi car and it will have about a point higher compression like 10.5:1 vs like 9.5:1 of the normal pi 2v from 99 and up. I would take a 96 gt and do ported pi heads and pi intake and a set of aftermarket cams with fbo you could easily see North of 320 rwhp possibly more that is good for a 281 cube motor from the 90s.
@@andye5573 idk why people think its so unbelievable to have a cobra with 25. Lots of these cars have low miles people go out of their way to keep them low. Same wkth terminators and shelbys. I'm torn. For an aftermarket rim they don't look bad and the color does compliment the red. But the original Cobra rims from this car were actually gorgeous. And the machined face on them isn't as gaudy as gold to be sure! To each their own I guess?
“Twice pipes” lmao gtfo! Also the paint scheme that came only in the 96 cobra is called mystic...the later 2003-2004 cobra models got a different paint scheme that’s similar to the mystic but it’s called mystichrome
Its a ford cobra on a mustang body....thats all it is ....its not a mustang cobra.....thats a common mis conception....its a ford cobra on a mustang body but i dont think its a mustang cobra.....i always called it a ford cobra
@@andye5573 it is def a ford mustang cobra. Like you have a ford mustang and ford mustang gt this is a ford mustang cobra. It's crazy how many people call my 07 gt500 a cobra because it has snakes on it (mines a stripe delete car so it's even worse lol)
How is it slow for what it's supposed to be? It ran high 13s at over 100 mph bone stock in the mid 90s with tall ass awful 3.27 gears out back. A switch to 4.10-4.56 gears will shed 3 tenths to more than half a second off the et and even add mph up top combined with a sticky tire. It's a 281 cubic inch v8 that has 80 hp more than the outgoing 5.0 windsor motors and 90 hp more than the gt at the time. It is stronger than lt1 and not far behind the ls cars of the 90s. At 281 cubes not sure how you are getting they're slow. They need gears bad and you need the driver mod to get the most from them. Short shifting and or granny shifting will make one slow but driving the wheels off it with the driver mod to get the most out of it makes a big difference on these cars. Driver mod+456 gear+sticky tire could have you running bottom 13s if not high 12 on an otherwise stock car. I had a 97 back in the day had midpipe, flows, k&n and 4.10s and I used to beat alot of cars I shouldn't have on paper it served me well for years. They can move with the driver mod.
@@midnight347 exactly true. My best friend had one anc I had a 'improved heads' 99 GT with 260hp. I would run 14 flat quarters at the strip consistenly (Vancouver, sea level) - and he would never be worse than a 13.7. Had stock gearing but grippier tires and yes, he shifted 'aggressively'....I think he eventually threw in a Hurst/b & m shifter and 4.10s and his best was a 13.35. 25 years ago (cars weren't nearly as hp rich as now) from a wee 281ci, this was pretty quick. Not to mention, in any configuration, the 4.6 was nearly indestructible. But yes, the 96-98 GTs were dogs. It wasn't til the 3v '05 when these finally had some balls in base/GT form. Oddly, even with the same 300hp, they were easy mid 13 second cars (driven like you hate it! Lol)
I don't like them either. I prefer five or six spoke. Split is fine, but those don't do anything for me, and the gold just looks out of place, because there aren't any colored accents anywhere else. The entire car is red/black inside and out.
These will have their time. I remember the days where you could practically trade a case of beer for a fox body, nobody wanted them except Chevy boys so they could put in a 350 small block. The 93 cobra is worth more cause it’s a one year only car.
@@bap7929 i agree with you there. i dont see very many foxes at all around here any more. i happen to have a triple black ragtop with 21k on the odo sitting in the garage. totally different animal than the fox gt my brother had
People want the pushrod because it is old and takes them back to their youth. These engines are better in every way vs the old 5 liter. I've owned multiple 5 liter windsors and multiple 4v mod motor cars and these engines are superior to the old pushrod period. The fox is worth alot because they made less of them one year only and they're older. It's not because of the outdated boat anchor under the hood that is for sure lol. You can prefer the pushrod cars that is fine lots do but the fact is this engine is superior to the pushrod 302. Add aftermarket rods and pistons to both cars and slap a turbo on them and see which one makes more power without splitting the block in two. I'll give you a hint it has 4 valves per cylinder lol. These are much better performance cars all the way around vs the fox body and a much better car period. The fox is old and harder and harder to find in good shape and that is why they are bringing more money not because it is a better car or because it has more potential because it don't.
The fox body notch backs/coupes will always have their place (even nowadays at the strip) and are quite collectable, but are definitely getting rare. In stock form, not much could beat them, especially for the money in the eighties and even early nineties. This was a $14000 car that could run very low fourteens run off the showroom floor. Which was pretty quick in it's day. GNs, F bodies, Vettes...were a fair bit more money. So it is part nostalgia for the gen.Xer's, but more so, it was just an incredible, tough little bang for the buck. But yeah, the 4.6 is the 'superior' engine in pretty much all regards. Having said all this, the one year 93 Cobra is gorgeous.
@@bap7929 if anything, they should have just called that turd the Mach E and left the Mustang out of it. Im pissed off searching mustangs in the classifieds and getting pages of ads for that battery operated trash

@@billyfoster3223 can’t deny that brother!
@@frankez1975 Yep!😁 Peace!😁
Love that white trans am off to the left wow!
Yea then the LS came out a year later. Game over again.
....and then came the Terminator in '03. We all know what happened then
are you Canadian? why do you keep picking on them?
hey, dont' get me wrong it's funny, but just wondering. lol
Probably because we love to vacation in his lovely hot beachy state 😆 ....as much as he bitches about the bugs, humidity and ducks!
96 cobra = junk 4.6 was garbo until 99 and up
That's a 4 valve. Non PI 2 valves were crap
Byron is right. They had the same engines
25,000 miles odometer is broken.. Common thing with those. but it is mint. but not truly at 25k
How can you say the car is mint but the odometer is wrong? Obviously this car was a garage queen and it was barely driven.
@@andye5573 idk why people think its so unbelievable to have a cobra with 25. Lots of these cars have low miles people go out of their way to keep them low. Same wkth terminators and shelbys. I say drive the wheels off em that's what they're meant for but many of these svts owners don't see it the same way as me lol. It's not uncommon at all to see them 25k or even less.
Cool car! Really odd commentary.
Those wheels have to go!
They look great
I'm torn. For an aftermarket rim they don't look bad and the color does compliment the red. But the original Cobra rims from this car were actually gorgeous. And the machined face on them isn't as gaudy as gold to be sure! To each their own I guess?
You obviously couldn’t handle this car or it’s ironic model name...
it is more ridicules using European names for American business that's really ridiculous....
“Twice pipes” lmao gtfo!
Also the paint scheme that came only in the 96 cobra is called mystic...the later 2003-2004 cobra models got a different paint scheme that’s similar to the mystic but it’s called mystichrome
Park that next to my 85 GT Vert and no one will look at it. I know I'm at car shows all the time.
Its a ford cobra on a mustang body....thats all it is ....its not a mustang cobra.....thats a common mis conception....its a ford cobra on a mustang body but i dont think its a mustang cobra.....i always called it a ford cobra
Nobody asked you what you like to call it now did we Kenny
Im surprised you felt a need to respond 😂😂
Um no. The title on these cars say Mustang. It doesn't say Ford Cobra. You're talking out of your ass dude lol.
Dumby
@@andye5573 it is def a ford mustang cobra. Like you have a ford mustang and ford mustang gt this is a ford mustang cobra. It's just the name for the highest trim level then just like you have a shelby gt500 now. Some of these people kill me. It's crazy how many people call my 07 gt500 a cobra because it has snakes on it (mines a stripe delete car so it's even worse lol)
Everyone i know who bought that year cobra either sold it immediately or blew it up. Very, very slow car for what its supposed to be
How is it slow for what it's supposed to be?
Lol)
Those rims are awful
I've seen worse
I don't like them either. I prefer five or six spoke. Split is fine, but those don't do anything for me, and the gold just looks out of place, because there aren't any colored accents anywhere else. The entire car is red/black inside and out.
Why is this GM guy doing a review for a Cobra? Bro go back to GM
Cobra FTW for the record.
Fox bodys are way more popular now days. Just so you know the 93 Cobra is worth way more than this one. People want the push rod 5.0 sorry.
Ugliest gen of Mustang other than the Mustang II.
And now the Mustang Mach E takes that title.
@@bap7929 if anything, they should have just called that turd the Mach E and left the Mustang out of it. Im pissed off searching mustangs in the classifieds and getting pages of ads for that battery operated trash
These cars are sweet looking cars when done right. Literally all they need is a 2 inch drop and some aftermarket wider wheels and tires on with some tinted windows and lighting and all the sudden they become dead sexy. They weren't great bone stock mostly because the 4x4 stance they have but once lowered on some nice rims they can look sick. I don't understand the hate towards them I think the ppl saying it's one of the ugliest mustangs like yourself just hasn't seen one modded tastefully.
This guy is more annoying than Scotty Kilmer! Love the car though
You lost me when you said twice pipes....
He's funny talking how they looked like a turd and he is a GM guy.Why wasn't he looking at 1996 Camaro z28s instead of brousin 1996 Cobras but couldn't afford and now he has 1. Lol that's funny. He isn't a Camaro guy. It's ok if he comes out of closet. I think proper vernacular is jus automobiles.(no GM,Ford ect) lol
Too much bullshit, not enough substance.
