- RIP (Copy) CDs With Windows Media Player. You would like to RIP your CDs to a PC so you can play them on your computer or phone, maybe you want to back up your CDs, or there are just certain songs you want to copy off your CDs. You don’t need to install any extra software on your computer. You already have a program in Windows 10 that does a great job of RIPing CDs. That is Windows Media Player.

How to get the Photo on CD cover to come up instead of the Music Note.
If it doesn't show, you will need to add album art. Here are two sites that should help you out: www.lifewire.com/manually-add-music-album-covers-in-wmp-12-3874775 and www.lifewire.com/add-album-art-in-windows-media-player-2438883. Hope this helps you.
I don't have the "rip CD'" nor the "rip settings" options in the menu bar. Only the standard Organize, Stream, and Create Playlist options. This is after CD is inserted. Endlessly updating media library.
I tried it too and had the same results as you, the rip CD and rip settings options didn't show up in the menu. In fact, WMP didn't recognize that I had a CD in my drive. So, I opened up another media player which recognized the CD and played it. I went back to WMP and it then recognized that a CD was in the drive and rip CD and rip settings then were in the menu. WMP was just being temperamental, but the above worked as a fix.
@@dennisray3235 I did what you said you did and Media Player remains unchanged. It seems pretty useless if it doesn't even recognise a CD drive
Thanks for the info. I'll have to give this a try.
Thank you for watching.
Hi Dennis,
I'm running Windows Pro, Version 10.0.19045 Build 19045. Using Media Player, I'm not seeing some of the fields/options that you and others have referred to. For example, I don't see the option to designate a destination for the RIPped album. The RIP appears to have worked, but I can't find the output location...I have looked extensively. Can you help me?
Once you have a CD in the player, the options for RIPing should show up. If you go to Tools in the top menu, go to Options, the RIP Music tab, the first item listed says Rip music to this location, also you can change the location. Hopefully this helps. Let me know, please.
Dennis, thank you for your prompt response. My Media Player version is 11.2401.2.0.
Unfortunately, there is no Tools option in my Media Player. After watching your video three times I spent about an hour looking for Tools but to no avail. There is a Settings icon that brings up a screen with sections entitled: Libraries, Personalization, Media Info and About. Under the Libraries dropdown there is an option called Music Library Location. In this section I've removed all the irrelevant default links and added my destination folder. After the Rip process ends, apparently successfully, I don't see any new entry in my library.
Any thoughts as to why I don't have Tools or why there is no output from the Rip?
Thanks in advance for any assistance.
Unfortunately, no, I really don't understand why your tools don't show up on the menu. It's hard not being there in person to see what's going on. Here's an article that may help you: answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/where-is-tools-in-windows-media-player/11fe6848-2d7b-4b46-bde9-638e2d6862ee. Good luck and I hope the article helps you.
Thanks for the link. Regrettably, none of the three suggestions worked. This is a mystery. In the meantime, I downloaded a free ripper which is working fine and I'm plowing through my library of CDs. Thanks again for your help. @@dennisray3235
Hi Dennis, I’m stumped and I hope you can help. I recently purchased a Vintage (1992-1994) NAD 505 CD Changer. It’s in great shape and works well, but a but is coming. The CD-R’s that I’ve burned on Windows 10 Classic Media Player to make compilations will not play on the NAD - they work in my other CD Players and in my cars. Now, here’s the BIG BUT: the CD-R’s that I burned years ago (MP3 format), perhaps on Windows 7, do play on the NAD > ????? In an attempt to remedy the problem, I’ve tried a few different brands of quality CD-R’s - same results, they don't play. Any thoughts or suggestions on your part will greatly be appreciated. Thank you.
Well, I really don't have any idea what may be going on there. In my own experience, the only problem I've have ever had similar to that has been with CD-RWs not playing on some players, but I've never really had a problem with CD-Rs. You could try recording at different speeds to see if that makes any kind of difference. It may not but worth a try. Good luck.
@@dennisray3235 thanks for replying... yep, I've tried different speeds and settings. I'm at the point of pulling my hair out and I don't have that much left (LOL).

With a CD it also says that the Artist and other info is unknown. Thanks for the video.
Yeah, it seems to depend on which CD. Some show info, others don't. Thank you for watching. Take care.
thanks ,but you don't show how do I create a play list and then save it, so I can upload it o my phone to play in my car later?
I found an article that may help you. See it at: www.lifewire.com/make-a-playlist-in-windows-media-player-2438844. Hopefully it will answer your question. Thanks for watching. Take care.
Good info, but how does this work for flash drives. The ripped option? I can't seem to find it. I've uploaded the file but when I try to play it tells me that there are no media items selected to play. What am I missing?
I'm not sure I understand your question. Are you trying to Rip from a flash drive, in which case it will not work, it will only work with CDs. Are you trying to Rip to a flash drive in which case it should see it and Rip to it. Please clarify for me.
@@dennisray3235 yes I’m trying to rip from a flash drive.
@@CrossingJordanEntertainment OK, I found a site that may help you with the information you need. See: www.ubackup.com/windows-10/copy-files-from-flash-drive-to-cd-6688.html. Hopefully this is helpful. Good luck.

How do I name the tracks so that I can see which songs are which in my car?
Drag and drop the track intro WMP Music. Then right click on Title, hit Edit and type in the name of the song, then the same thing for Artist and etc. It should then show the title and artist when you play it in any player. Take care.

Can you rip a DVD on Windows Media player?
No, unfortunately, Windows Media Player will only RIP audio from CDs.
👏👏👏
Hope you got some good information from it. Thank you for watching.
i do not have RIP SETTINGS BUTTON
Very odd. When you have a CD in your drive and you have the proper drive selected the RIP Settings Button should be visible like in the video at 1:45. If it isn't, you may want to make sure you have Music selected on the left side. If it still is not visible, then I don't know what to tell you without being there to physically see what's going on, sorry. Does anyone else have any ideas for Logan? Thanks for watching.
