Buddy there's no Thanks button present :
Already did chief!
I always wondered about the firefly pool. It looked so much like a place where some kind of boss fight would take place.
I also always forgot that the boss arena is deeper in. I keep expecting to get attacked by the Shadows where that alpha fogdoor used to be.
Looks like they took the basic concept of this unfinished boss and turned it into Rykard. Especially since both share a very similar attack where they grab and swallow the player whole (3:33)
I'm glad they cut this from Bloodborne. Rykard was legit one of the worst bosses in Elden Ring and the Shadows of Yharnam are a great, balanced fight.
@@AGuyCalledHarry Imagine unironically typing that about Rykard.
@@LordRezo He's my favorite fight in Elden Ring's base game. A masterpiece of a fight!
@@DontXtheStream That's fair enough.
@WincentCena I'm curious, what do you think is good about Rykard lol
Really wish the moon phases would have changed enemy layouts. Thank You for sharing these amazing finds Lance~
In my first playthrough I revisited all places again to find new stuff and was kinda disappointed that the only new enemy was the Bloody Crow. Now I'm sad that this was actually planned at some point.
If a remake ever comes out, I wish it would implement these ideas. But if Bluepoint do it, it's not gonna happen since they're very conservative.
@@bismarckluna And Bluepoint would fuck the art style and music completely so hopefully they never remake it.
@@Lunartic_ to be fair, Bloodborne is way more detailed than PS3 Demon's Souls so I think they would just up the fidelity without messing the art much, instead of trying to fill the gaps like they did with DeS. I hope.
Agree with the music though, never played the original Demon's Souls but I like the original OST better, so much character. A lot of the Remake just sound like generic over the top "le epic" music you find in trailers or CZcams fan remixes, though there are some very good tracks.
I still liked the Remake a lot, I just feel like it has lot of wasted potential and it's probably my least favorite of the bunch.
@@bismarckluna The first three Souls games all suffer from bad releases donât want that shit for Bloodborne too. Iâd much prefer a competent pc port that doesnât try to do much else other than like 60 fps.
Its not even like it would've been a hard thing to do.
4:45 This makes so much more sense why that pool with the green fireflies is just massively open with no enemies within it, not even an ambush.
Just a little paradise in a horrible world.
Imagine returning to the forbidden woods after the blood moon, not expecting anything out of the ordinary, and then seeing THAT.
That would have been awesome đ
The boss staggering at every white snake hit seems too strong so I think we might have had to hit them a couple times just like with the Curserotten Greatwood which makes me wonder if the snakes were repurposed for the balls.
A huge part of me wishes they kept the snake ball in as a much more simplified spectacle/obstacle type of enemy, similar to the Hellkite Drake in Dark Souls 1 or the Carthus Sandworm in Dark Souls 3. An enemy where the challenge is avoiding and bypassing it as opposed to killing it outright, but allowing the play to do so if they're bonkers enough.
A new Lance video about Bloodborne, hell yeah.
edit: This rules.
This guy definitely turned into Rykard
Rykard in Elden Ring feels like the culmination of this Snake Boss idea that they were attempting here. I love how From hardly ever gives up on an idea and how we can see them come to fruition several years and projects later.
The detail of the ticks attached to the lead snakeâs head is such a genius way to connect with the gameâs broader themes.
Those aren't ticks đ€Š
@@protonjones54 They absolutely look like ticks, arrange themselves like ticks, and even have eggs masses that look like tick eggs attached to the creature's scales. If you've got a deeper insight on what they are, that would be nice to know.
@@protonjones54 yes they are, and huge snakes in bloodborne also have them
@@protonjones54 also snakes being affected by a lot of ticks are common thing
@@protonjones54 wrong.
Ohhhh it's a hydra waterfall callback
The animation on that grab attack is very similar to the grab that rykard has, maybe they repurposed it with adjustments for it
Wouldn't surprise me, there's already bosses in Elden Ring that are repurposed old bosses that were cut from other games.
@@acolddarkgentlebruh8205 oh really give me examples, is very interesting
@@JAR2388 one example I know of is the unused snake soul boss from ds3 was repurposed as the ulcerated tree spirit in elden ring, also not sure about this one but I've heard the erdtree avatars use parts of the asylum demon moveset
@@starry5303 interesting.
@@JAR2388 Areas too, the intro to the haligtree (all the branches) is using data that was for a cut ds3 area (old archdragon peak iirc?).
The watchdog tomb boss seems to share some animations (the walk animation) from the Bloodborne cut bloated/rock head puppet enemy as well.
almost 8 yrs after release, more cut content videos LETS GO
Wonder why they didn't use snake ball in the chalice dungeons (even the simplified version) seams I was almost finished. Cool to see this
The dungeons are a bit small no? Furthermore iirc the dungeons were a late development addition so I imagine the snake could've been already scrapped by that point
They probably just found it was not fun to fight it during playtesting (forcing the player to break lock-on so they can hit something behind them feels incredibly weird for a Souls boss)
Would've been better than a good deal of the other mob enemies turned bosses they did.
@@LordSleven hintertombs have those big poison swamp rooms, which works even better cause poison
Probably cause it wasnât very fun to fight
Ah, gotta love it. Also the fog wall messengers!
when y'all spawn these unfinished enemies, it gives me the chillls. it's like walking around rock n roll mountain with the lights on. something is off and you end up feeling like you're not supposed to see this or be there đ
Shadow of the Colossus' cut content does this for me. Taking the camera into the cut Eastern lands and just exploring the remaining slices of what's left is uncanny
The fuck is rock n roll mountain??
@@protonjones54 sorry it's a indoor rollercoaster that runs dark, but with the lights on you see the whole room and the coaster. to me that's a nightmare, both lights on and off.
The small white snakes look suspiciously similar to the great snakes of Sekiro
Man, Bloodborne is my beloved but it would've been so cool to have the Nioh 2 Twilight Mission style of revisiting earlier levels now presenting more difficult encounters. (I do understand why this was cut though. Budget and time constraints are the bane of methodical creativity)
What a juicy slice of Bloodborne history
This is my favourite piece of Bloodborne cut content after the Beaver-like enemies (which I hope you cover Lance). I think they merged the idea of a large snake creature into Rykard, but realized that forcing the player to get up close to the enemy defeated the purpose of making it so big. They then gave the player the spear to push them further back to see the grand scale of the enemy in Elden Ring,
Outstanding work as usual, Lance.
It's impressive to see how far they got with this boss. Hearing about it through the years, it sounded like it was scrapped early, but they actually had a whole idea for it and tried to implement it. The encounter at the pool in particular would've been fantastic to have in the finished game, as there's so little that changes with the day phases; it would've been a great surprise.
It is genuinely difficult to think of a better Cut Content channel. Clear and efficient information with a clear large amount of work behind every video. Thank you for your work, I look forward to more.
@Lance_McDonald. Get Parried Casual
Tbh Zullie the witch and Illusory wall are 2 great contender, but this way of explaining cut content is definitely more soothing and seems more professional
If this boss actually made it in, all the speedrunners on earth would start calling it Phalanx 2, I'm sure of it
Ah yes, the infamous Rykard teenage era photo. No wonder he hid this from the public.
It is always incredible to see a video of yours pop up! Great video Lance, Congrats!
TOGETHA !!!
Your content digging into the development is awesome as always!
Thanks for your hard work lance,
Man lots of the cut content in this game look epic. Cant help but dream what the game will look like if these weren't cut
It absolutely boggles my mind how you guys manage to find and reimplement this stuff. But, however you're doing it, thank you. I hope there are still more discoveries to be made, but I kind of assume the majority of the cut content has been explored by this point. Bloodborne means a hell of a lot to me, so it will always make my day better getting these uploads from you. Cheers, Lance; and I hope you're well.
Man it sucks these were cut, i hope in bloodborne 2 we get something like these two ideas, both a huge snake boss and the changed enemy layouts after a significant event.
Love bloodborne and the cut story content that the community has found! Please keep posting as much as you find!
No way, this is amazing! I think thematically this boss made the most sense for this location. I hope this and many of the previously axed content will be fully realized in a potential remake.
After 9 months, he's finally free, time to conquer earth
Along awaited return after tons of spicy tweets and hottakes
Cut Bloodborne content is my favorite drug
I'm glad to see you're still uncovering more content, Lance.
ive never once been disappointed by one of your videos. seriously. you being the first to uncover all these things about my favorite game feels like witchcraft to me. its a small peek behind from softwares developement every time and i love it so much. seeing the ideas and changes they have done to create this masterpiece feels incredible. thank you so much for blowing my mind every time.
Yesssssss buddy! Cut content!
Just amazing what was left on the cutting room floor. Lance is just great for revealing this stuff to us. Let's hope there's a Bloodborne 2!
Heâs back! And itâs Bloodborne!!
definitely reminiscent of (and most likely inspired by) the term rat king, where the tails of many rats become tangled and the rats become one. i'm very glad a lot of my questions about that pool with all the fireflies have been answered. thank you for all the incredible work you've done, not only for bloodborne itself but also the community.
They just took an irl ball of mating snakes and turned it into an enemy. Nothing to do with a rat king.
@@StephanuSneed it took you two whole months since i commented that, and that's really the only piece of information you could have possibly came up with? are you fucking kidding me?
Long time no see, Lance! Thank you so much for the upload, I missed your videos!
Reminds me of the cursed tree in DS3. You hit the smaller "heads" first, they spit out poison
Speaking of Shadows I find it interesting that in the 1.0 version their fight had no music and when music was added it was just a generic chalice dungeon boss theme. That in addition to the fact theyâre reused right before the wet nurse and apparently reuse the snake attack makes me wonder if they were a last second addition to the game?
awesome content as always
can't wait for the next one, Shadows of Yharnam are so cool
ive never clicked a thumbnail so quick in my life. New lance is a holiday
I absolutely love this channel so damn much, take my money
I am so glad we get to see the original textures. I still think this would've been a cooler boss than Shadows of Yharnam (they fit more thematically into the swamp, for one thing), but I'm sure they cut this boss for a reason. Hopefully though they bring the snake ball back in a future game, because this is a really neat creature fight that I really, REALLY want to face.
Oh my god new video, I'm so happy
Woah lance is back :o
Bloodborne is almost 10 years old and still and exclusive, God of war 2018 came out after it and stopped being an exclusive before it too, despite it being one of the most iconic PS4 exclusive series since 2 decades before.
I always had a theory that the large puddle earlier in the forest, just after the little starchild ayylmao's, and maybe also where the pig is, would've had an "intro invasion" by this boss, where some of the snake heads would burst out from the pond/lake and attack you, and then getting to the actual boss you'd face the full encounter, perhaps able to weaken it's overall hp slightly before hand?
The puddle is not far before the boss area and it always seemed very out of place like some encounter was supposed to happen.
**edit** actually watched the video in full, HAHA!
Thank u lance for all the work u do for this community especially for Bloodborne
Super interesting video Lance, can we have more please?
Nice work on the video
this is great content, lance. we are eating well.
Bro u need to upload more. Love ur vids
I thank you and everyone else for investigating this unused boss for years, and finally restoring its textures and arena! Something about the overall size of this boss feels creepy, even more so than the "finished" idea seen with the God-Devouring Serpent in Elden Ring. The snake cluster feels like it's on a different scale than the rest of the game, and even the areas with it feel uncannily wide, with the firefly pool seems oddly broad despite its size, a bit deeper than it should be, and just strange, rough, and perhaps unfinished to some degrees.
As an actual fight, the boss looks like its range would be obnoxiously large or surprisingly short if it kept getting caught on itself as it reached out. The main snake's major tick infestation is a neat detail with the parasitism of the game, but the main snake doesn't seem to fight much, and its range could either be too long if it did or it'd have to tip the entire snake ball over for most attacks and to move, which would mess with the overall design. I wonder if each head could be parried and visceral attacked, or if the idea wasn't implemented because it might feel too odd to visceral a single head, almost a de facto limb, of the same boss while the rest are there and attacking the Good Hunter.
Is the grab attack bite really meant to just deposit the player out through a random spot in the stomach? Was there an unfinished spit out animation? Is the shown animation what remains of a special "kills the player" animation for the grab? That just looks odd. Also, was the boss meant to drop any items in the boss and firefly pool encounters? Do values for the blood echoes it'd provide still remain?
Thanks again for the amazing Bloodborne content, as well as the content you discover for all of these games!
Incredible Lance. Thank you.
So they took that ground snake animation/attack and put it in Nioh 2's snake boss!
SNAKE BALL REAL
5:44 - yeah, I think most of us expected something to attack us in that location.
I love how they keep concepts and implement them further. Rykard in this instance.
nice video cant wait for the next one 6 month from now
At least it doesnt want you to join the serpent king as FAMILEEE so you can TOGETHAAA devouah da very Goohzzzzz...
Shame it got cut, but then again I do see why, likely due to the unwieldy nature of the boss just not getting enough attention for its animations. You can see the "main" big snake body is just hanging around there doing nothing most of the time, a lot of the upper/bigger snakes do the same only being used for that underground snake attack, even when the hunter is near, since the "proximity detector" snakes are the smaller ground ones, it makes sense gameplay wise that not TOO much is attacking the player. It just feels it doesn't act as good as the small and medium snake balls around the woods, where each attack implements the heads that can obviously reach the hunter and the bigger one is just too tugged into the main body to do so.
You can even potentially say that The One Reborn was their final version of this design. Sure it's not as cool as a ball of snakes but it works a bit better by having a "front" and "back" as well as the Main body always attacking via magic, with the grounded appendages always attacking the player when near. This design makes more sense I feel where everything seems engaged with the player, rather than having some part just be idling about for no other reason but gameplay balance.
Your work is appreciated, Iâd love for it to amount to a job at fromsoft one day, seems thatâs what it would take for them to revisit this world.
The Legend is back!
OK now use the debug menu to port Bloodborne to PC
"Oh yes, palesnakes...Well, you've come to the right place."
Thanks for doing this. Surprised you'd even make a vid at this point about the game?
Content is interesting. I'll watch a commercial or 2 for ya.
Thanks!
Itâs interesting how fromsoft reuses cut content in other gameâs specifically Elden ring. This snake ball was clearly turned into rykard, the red wolf of radagon was from ds3 along with the ulcerated tree spirits too itâs really interesting
Sony spends millions of dollars porting SackBoy on PC only to sell 3 copies, meanwhile the one game ppl have been requesting for nearly a decade still gets ignored, Sony hates making money I guess...
These games really deserved a longer development time.
It is kind of insane how tight 'a schedules these are really on.
Incredible. It's like magic. I just can't even understand how you do what you do.
Return of the king
I'd also like to point out how deep the muddy water is in that fight.
Very cool.
This is incredible
... what? i only saw this video because i went to your channel from your newest one. i would have 100% watched this if i had known about it. i guess YT are failing to notify people about videos again...
Babe wake up, Lance McDonald just uploaded a video
Ah yes! That firefly puddle always felt like something belongs there but went missing
SNAKE BALLS! They're the Snake Balls!
They're the masters of snakes, so hey, don't mess around
with the SNAKE BALLS
Love the Bloodborne videos
Feels more like a Dark Souls style of boss in terms of moveset/gameplay design imo... I imagine it's possible that one of the reasons they cut it is that it would've been awkward to fight this thing with the Bloodborne style of play... That being said pretty sure Rykard might be some form of spiritual successor to the Giant Snake Ball idea
I'm so glad they changed there minds on this boss I don't think I'd have ever cleared the game otherwise I've never figured these enemies out
whoa he's back
Y'know, now that I think of it, I wonder if the more in-depth moon phase spawning different enemies was an early attempt at what Sekiro did with Ashina castle. Sekiro in general had a much more dynamic world than most From games (as far as actively changing maps are concerned). Not only was Ashina castle constantly changing with the phases of its invasion, but the poison pool encampment where the reavers (and Snake Eyes) are posted changes dramatically if you first defeat the guardian ape (since it then comes down and rampages through it). Hirata estate also changes if you get Owl's bell charm and, to a lesser extent, the entire map is worth taking a second glance at once you learn to dive underwater.
what i find funny is how enemy layout changing by moon phase made me think directly about Bloodborne:Scholar of the first sin
Thank you
I feel like playing Bloodborne again thanks lance
When the world needed him most, he returned.
I feel like this was reused for Rykard in Elden Ring. The big main head reminded me of him a little and that grab attack looks like the unique death animation where the snake eats you.
Amazing...really wish this could be fixed as a proper boss or miniboss encounter but I understand that it's way to buggy. That being said will you be doing any video's on the cut Great One Beast history? Seeing as how it's boss battle has been restored and all, along with Inherit The Nightmare (Moon Prescence) boss history? Both have received amazing retexture work by Abyss1ne from what I've seen however I believe some of the cut MP's attacks are still invisible, unlike the GOB's attacks which have been restored.
Man , this hurts! I really wish they kept this enemy in the game , specially as a new enemy in the firefly pool once the bloodmoon appears. And the whole idea of certain changes in previous areas at diffrent phases of the moon
Kind of currently exists in the game (with the ghost-like enemies summoned by witches of hemwick appearing in the entire area if you go there after beating vicar amilia and moving the world state from daytime to night time.
Or how the bloody crow of cainhurst appears at vicar Amelia's arena after killing rom and revealing the bloodmoon.) But it would be really cool if it existed as a more fleshed out mechanic with more changes in diffrent areas as you progress through the game. It would have made this already perfect experience even better!
Wonder to get such clear shots of the model and it's animations!
The Ryckard before Ryckard.
It's cool how this is basically the prototype for Rykard's first phase
